I attended the University of Michigan for my undergraduate studies and remained in Ann Arbor to pursue my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. I also participate in continuing education courses to learn about new materials, techniques, and technologies.
My wife, Kathie, and I have been married for 36 years. We have four children and a golden retriever. In my free time, I enjoy watching the Wolverines compete, reading, firearm target shooting, and fishing.
I have an undergraduate degree in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science at the University of Michigan in 2007, which I followed up with my Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2011. As a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and West Michigan District Dental Society, I also study the latest dental technologies and techniques through continuing education courses.
When I am not practicing dentistry, I enjoy spending time with my wife Jen, my daughter Alexis, and my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and being active outdoors. I am an avid fan of the University of Michigan athletics. Go Wolverines!

We use a slim camera wand to takedigital dental impressionsof your teeth. Not only is CERECDigital Impressions noninvasive, meaning it doesnt trigger your gag reflex (no more goop!), but it also takes precise impressions so we can createsame-day dental crownsthat look and feel like your natural teeth.
We use SIDEXIS 4 Software as a central place to access your dental x-rays, digital impressions, and other types of diagnostic images. We can show you images of your teeth, gums, and jaw on one screen so you can see what we see happening inside your mouth and understand your diagnosis and treatment options.
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows your dentist to see your teeth, gums, and jaws with more clarity than traditional film x-rays. The focused x-ray beam of our GALILEOS ComfortPlus 3D dental imaging unit reduces scatter radiation, resulting in better image quality and a lower dose of radiation.
Our dentists use 3D printing to create oral appliances and surgical guides for implant placement. 3D printing is convenient because you dont have to wait weeks for your appliance to be made in an off-site lab.
We use the CamX Spectra Caries Detection Aid to find early signs of tooth decay, including plaque and tartar buildup. It can detect cavities that we might have missed with an x-ray, including cavities around fillings and crowns. When it spots decay, the cavity glows on our screen as a different color from the rest of your tooth.

Absolutely fantastic experience! Never have I felt so at home and relaxed at a dentist office...that is until I came here. As soon as I entered and said I had an appointment, I was taken on a tour of their elegant and cozy office. I came straight from my construction job and had on work clothes but never did I feel judged or looked down upon by any of the staff. Heather did a fantastic job at cleaning my teeth and just being extremely down to earth with me. Her genuine approach to customer service made me grateful to have chosen McMahon Family Dental. I will be looking forward to my next visit and working wit Dr John who is yet another fantastic guy to be around!

Yesterday was my first time at McMahon Family Dental and I can't recommend them enough. I do not enjoy the dentist, but can honestly say it was the best experience I've had at a dentist. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and patient.

I have been a patient at McMahon Family Dental for 25 years. Now my family of 7 are all patients here. I have always had great care and the appropriate treatment as needed. I can't say enough about the doctors as well as all the staff either. The office has a fantastic family friendly vibe and I have never once felt mistreated or uncared for. Now my 5 kiddos and husband receive the same experience and as a mom I feel so comfortable that my kids are getting such good care! I highly recommend this office! They feel like family!

Being that I manage the office you would expect a good review! However, I have been in dentistry a long time and this is probably the most thorough cleaning I have EVER had. Jocelyn was amazing!! Yes I manage the office but I also have some dental anxieties and she just made me & my teeth feel great!! I also loved how Dr John explained things in my dental care that I never knew! If I worked in this office or not this is definitely the place to be! Top notch team, top notch care! BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!

Had the absolute BEST experience at McMahon Family Dental! It was my first time there & they go above and beyond! Everyone is so friendly & helpful! Jocelyn, my dental hygienist, did a great job! She also cleaned our 3.5 year old daughters teeth (her first dental appt) & made her feel SO at ease! Our daughter can't wait to go back to the dentist! McMahon Family Dental is the best dentist office in West Michigan. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted by the incredibly friendly staff. Their up to date equipment and resources allow for a worry free experience. They are quick to help with all of your dental needs and they do it whole heartedly. If you are in the West Michigan area this is the dentist office you should go to. I truly would vote 10 stars if it was an option! Go see them. You will not regret it!
