This requires more than restoring or replacing teeth. Modern preventive dentistry requires the building of a relationship with patients that will allow a high trust-low fear environment. When this type of relationship is achieved, patients will discover within themselves the capacity to use that relationship for positive change in behavior. When one realizes that nearly all dental disease is based on behavior (the way we care for our mouth), one can see that dental disease can be eliminated and prevented from happening again. The old idea of going to the dentist when you have a toothache is still valid, but the thing we stress in our office doctors, hygienists and assistants is prevention, not cure! It is much wiser, healthier and more economical to keep the body well than to cure it after it is sick, and that is true of our teeth, heart, kidneys, joints or any other part of our bodies.

I haven't had anything but a stellar experience with Dr. Ian! He is precise and in doing so quick with cavity procedures. Everything from the front of house staff to dental hygienists have all been wonderful and easy to work with over the years. Would highly recommend!

Dr Ian is incredible. He spent a lot of time with me as I had neglected a lot of work previously due to other dentists I had seen. Dr. Ian was upfront and honest, and his staff worked with me and my insurance to make sure that the whole process was painless. A dentist from my past botched a root canal and I lost a tooth, and Dr Ian was able to install a prosthetic tooth, fixed all my neglected problems, and for the first time in 30 years I enjoy smiling without being self-conscious. I highly recommend him to all my friends, and my whole family has gone to him for years.

I visited McLaughlin Family Dentists for several years before unfortunately moving out of reach from the office. But since trying other dentists, I have realized just how lucky I was to be a patient there! The cleanings were exceptionally thorough, with the hygienists always being eager to provide advice; Dr. McLaughlin was a perfectionist in inspecting x-rays and filling cavities, and I never felt any pain after a procedure; the front desk was always friendly and courteous. I strongly recommend neighbors of McLaughlin Family Dentists to take advantage of their wonderful service!

Dr. Ian and the staff are excellent. They are well organized and equipped, capable of taking care of problems from cavities to root canals. The service is professional and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. It's never fun to go to the dentist, but it's good to know you're in good hands!

Dear Readers: If you value your health, do NOT go to Dr. Ian McLaughlin and Dr. Stephen McLaughlin! I am a former patient of Dr. Stephen McLaughlin and Dr. Ian McLaughlin. Based on positive Yelp reviews, I selected "McLaughlin Family Dentists." Under Dr. Stephen McLaughlin and Dr. Ian McLaughlin "care" (18 months): * The Doctors did not perform any Full X-Rays. * 8 months after first visit, I lost my tooth! The Doctors missed my cracked tooth. Now they said it was too late and removed it. Dr. Ian McLaughlin and Dr. Stephen McLaughlin betrayed my trust. I went to another Dentist. On Day One, my new Dentist performed Full X-Rays. The Doctor was compassionate to my situation. Now I must pay $5,000+ for dental implant to replace the missing tooth.

Their welcome smile is captivating! Dr. Ian leaves a lasting impression on both adult and children that makes one feel like staying there for ever. My children detested visiting a dentist until we found Dr. Ian. He is very meticulous with cleaning and explains details of any procedure before and in the process.

I am normally hesitant to write a review after first visit.. but Ian really loves what he is doing. He actually explains and shows problems and issues and whats the best fix it. My past dentist experiences was horrible. It was more about how to get more money out of this guy before he leaves the office. None of that "i am a doctor ,bow to me attitude".. it's EXTREMELY difficult to find such professionals. If i move to California I think I'd rather fly here to visit Ian than poke around neighborhood. I'll definitely update this review in case I am mistaken but i kind of really doubt it. I think i can trust my dental health to ian...and if u work for him.. consider yourself very lucky. Try to be credit card/cash payer. . All that insurance burocraCy is a lot of hustle.. this guy deserves hard cash. Fees are very very reasonable

I've had problems with my teeth my whole life. So when I went to a Parkside Dental in Back Bay for the first time, I was expecting the worst. What I got was worse than I expected. They basically told me that my teeth were hopeless, and my best bet would be to go to Tufts Dental School to try and save money on fillings and an implant. They also mentioned I should do it soon, before the infection in my tooth spread to my brain and killed me. Thanks. A thoughtful consultation, I'm sure, but not really what I wanted to hear. I went to Tufts dental where they charged me $85 for a consultation, which was simply setting up an appointment. Thanks. So, I spoke to a coworker who happens to be Doctor Ian's brother. I forwarded him my x-rays, and he called me on the spot and made an appointment. A year and half later and my mouth is fixed. I have cleanings every four months and get nothing but good news. I use a high fluoride toothpaste recommended to me by Dr. Ian and his hygienists, and it really has made a difference in mitigating the dental problems I was saddled with. Dr. Ian took care of a bunch fillings for me, and Lynda has been enormously helpful working with my insurance and with me on scheduling payment. The biggest work was a dental implant, which terrified me at first, but Dr. Ian was extremely professional and informative in explaining the entire process up front, telling me what to expect, and always being available to answer questions. The tooth that was hurting so badly that I couldn't chew with it has been replaced by a perfect implant. I sometimes forget it's even there, since after three months it feels like I've had it my whole life. As someone who has had a lot of dentists, the one thing that sets Dr. Ian apart more than any other is his eagerness to explain procedures in copious detail (if you want him to, of course). He answers questions and provides consultation thoughtfully and respectfully. This isn't a "sausage factory" practice, so to speak. If you've ever had issues trusting doctors or dentists, or if you just want to know that you'll receive excellent work and care, front to back, then I couldn't recommend McLaughlin Family Dentists enough.

I have had a lot of bad luck with dentists. My previous dentists did poor fillings that would need to get repaired just a few weeks later. The work they did was often painful and they were always confusing with their post care instructions. Dr. Ian McLaughlin was a welcome change to all of that. Dr. Ian made me feel right at home! He sat me down and explained everything that was going to happen from beginning to end. His assistants were nice as well! The work was practically painless! I had two extractions and I was shocked when he told me he was done. I hadn't felt a thing! Dr. Ian was also very thorough with the post care instructions for my extracted teeth. I had heard horrors about dry socket and Dr. Ian's instructions helped me avoid that completely! Here's where Dr. Ian really impressed me. After I got home from his office, I got a call. It was Dr. Ian! He called to check in and told me that he had noticed a couple cavities that would need work as soon as possible! He saved me tons of money from having to get a root canal or cap! Dr. Ian treated me like I really mattered. His staff was great and on top of all of that he was also very affordable. Lynda in his office was great! She helped me understand the cost of the work and explained how much my insurance company would cover. Marybeth was also great! She set me up with a follow up appointment and was very nice! I recommend Dr. Ian McLaughlin's office to everyone!

My wife & I had been looking for a new dentist for several years. The clinic we had been going to had high staff turnover and they seemed stressed. I tried a promotional offer at another clinic and was horrified by the factory atmosphere and the pressure to pay for unwanted cosmetic work. Calls to family practices met with non-acceptance of new patients and no waiting list. The upshot was we weren't getting regular dental care. What a surprise to talk to Marybeth at McLaughlin, easily get appointments for new patients and have a pleasant person doing the scheduling! And an even bigger surprise at the appointments to find such a warm family practice atmosphere such as I haven't found in any doctor's office since my childhood. The care was professional, informative and very helpful. Our search for a dentist is over.
