Orthodontics is a family tradition for Dr. Stephen McKenna, who joined the family practice in 1990 after completing his study at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, one of the finest dental schools in the country. Specializing in pediatrics during his residency at New England Medical Center, he continues to bring smiles to generations of children.

Dr. McKenna spent his childhood watching his parents enjoy doing what they loved: his father chose orthodontics as his profession while his mother immersed herself in art. Their choices, their passions, consumed him, too. His philosophy about orthodontics is centered on the combination of art, healing, and science and his ability to enhance the lives of others.

An esteemed orthodontic professional, his colleagues who have nominated him for numerous awards, hold him in high regard. Dr. McKenna has held numerous positions on the boards of several dental professional associations.

Dr. McKenna's passion ranges from art, science, and education as represented in the meticulous care and service of his patients, the Feeding Hills office that he co-designed, and the clarity of orthodontic information on this website.

A native of Bedford, New Hampshire, I attended the Honors Program at Boston College, where I graduated as a Scholar of the College in Biochemistry, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. I subsequently received my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree with Honors at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where I was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. I completed my 30-month orthodontic residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

As practice manager at McKenna & Caban Family Orthodontics, Nancy has more than two decades of dentist-based office and clinical experience. Reporting directly to the partner orthodontists, Nancy is also the clinical manager and a Certified Orthodontic Assistant. As the director of office and clinical personnel, Nancy ensures that all office and clinical actions run smoothly.

Nancy declares, We work together as a team to give our patients an environment where they share their stories and life milestones. It is a pleasure watching them grow while we create a beautiful smile.

Outside of work, Nancy enjoys being a Mimi to her grandchildren and camping with her husband. She enjoys gardening, quilting, and doing cross-stitch and needlework while hiding in her sewing room watching old TV shows.

As chief administrator at McKenna & Caban Family Orthodontics, Shauna has more than 20 years of dentist-based office experience. She works with the practice manager and the orthodontic partners in the continuous development of efficient, streamlined administrative systems. In her role, Shauna supervises the front office staff and the entire workflow of the front office in all locations. She also produces data and statistical reports, and handles account billing and collections.

Julie has the dual role of assistant clinical manager and Certified Orthodontic Assistant at McKenna & Caban Family Orthodontics. As an assistant clinical manager, Julie fills in when the clinical manager is unavailable. As a Certified Dental Assistant, Julie fulfills many roles within the clinical department including chairside assistant, certified X-ray technician, lab technician, and oral hygiene caregiver/educator.

Julie appreciates her work life. She says, It is a privilege to make a positive impact on peoples lives by transforming their smiles and their self-confidence. It is a pleasure to work for doctors who value integrity, honesty, and who have a great sense of humor. We share laughter with each other, and with our patients.

Being able to brighten someones day by helping to make his or her visit comfortable makes me smile. Focusing on each individual patient as a person beyond their treatment is what sets us apart.

Cindy enjoys spending time with her husband and their young daughter. Cindys passion is taking on various roles within her church congregation, including teaching Sunday school to young teens. She also enjoys reading, baking, and bargain shopping.

As a Registered Dental Hygienist, Diane fulfills many roles within the clinical department including chairside assistant, certified X-ray technician, and lab technician. In working with the clinical team to fulfill the oral health needs of patients, Diane serves as an adviser and educator in proper tooth and gum care; this ensures that the patients teeth are straight, healthy, and beautiful when treatment is completed.

Diane enjoys making a difference working at McKenna & Caban Family Orthodontics. She states, I know when I go home that I truly did something meaningful and important. We provide advanced treatment with top quality care in a warm friendly environment. The work we do every day makes a difference to the people who live in and around our community.

As a Certified Orthodontic Assistant, Mary fulfills many roles within the clinical department including chairside assistant, certified X-ray technician, lab technician, and oral hygiene caregiver/educator. Marys dentist-based clinical experience is based on years of helping patients; her duties include preparing patients, making patients comfortable, and assisting the orthodontist.

Outside of work, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband and children, traveling and enjoying the outdoors. Involved in LifePoint Church in Chicopee, Mary leads women ministry, sings on the worship team, and leads mission trips.

As a Certified Orthodontic Assistant, Laura fulfills many roles within the clinical department including chairside assistant, certified X-ray technician, lab technician, and oral hygiene caregiver/educator. Laura's dentist-based clinical experience is based on years of helping patients; her duties include preparing patients, making patients comfortable, and assisting the orthodontist.

Orthodontics, the science of moving teeth through bone, became the first and perhaps most sought after specialties of modern dentistry in the early 1900s. Believing that orthodontics could transform lives, in 1918, Paul McKenna I became the first orthodontist in New England to open an orthodontic practice. Patients traveled from all over New England to McKenna's Springfield, Massachusetts office for quality orthodontic care.

As the field developed, Dr. Paul McKenna I kept his practice current with the latest in technology and services. His son, Dr. Paul J. McKenna, Jr., shared his father's passion for orthodontics' transformative abilities and joined the practice in 1952. He provided quality care to Pioneer Valley residents for more than 40 years.
