My childhood was spent in Fort Thomas Kentucky. I attended the University of Kentucky on a full academic scholarship, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I worked as an engineer for two years before deciding that my heart was leading me to dentistry.
I graduated with 'High Distinction' in 2007 from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. From there, I did my three year residency in Orthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. I became Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics in 2014, a distinction held by only 30% of practicing orthodontists. I enjoy learning about the newest techniques and technology to use in my office. Our 3D cone beam x-ray allows me to see small details that assist me in creating more customized treatment plans then ever before.
My wife Dara and I met while I was in residency in San Antonio. She is from Cibolo, so once I finished my residency we decided to make it our home. I opened McGarrell Orthodontics in 2010, and not long after we were married. We have three beautiful, active kids, Mason, Emery and Ainslee. I spend my nights and weekends coaching their sports teams, and keeping them active outdoors.
Dara and I love being an active part of the community. You will see us at local events, as well as supporting schools whenever we can. I am an avid sports fan and always pull for my alma mater, GO WILDCATS!

Dr.McGarrell is the best, my daughter has been having treatment for almost a year and she has a lot improvement on her teeth. The people that works there are very nice.

McGarrell Orthodontics was recommended by our dentist. My son had a lot of overcrowding and oversize teeth. It was easy to book an appointment. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Dr. McGarrell is very approachable. Ms. Becky set up my son's file and photos. She is such a hoot for parents and kids. She cracked jokes and had a light conversation with us which helped put my anxious son at ease. When setting up his treatment plan, everything was laid out clearly for us to understand (time, cost, what to expect, why it's recommended, etc). Given this is not my area of expertise, I appreciate how the process was explained and how they answered my questions. They put the photos on a big screen TV while we discussed my son's plan and progress. It was pretty cool to see the Xrays. The waiting room is spacious with a TV, tablets, and wifi. The building is clean and well-staffed. There are two employees at the front desk to check in/greet and a public restroom as well. The parking lot has plenty of parking available. Honestly, I could not have asked for anything better, and look forward to working with such an amazing staff. If you are looking for an orthodontist, give them a call. They have multiple locations in the area.

I've been going to Dr. McGarrells Ortho office off FM1103 for close to a year now. I can honestly say EVER time I visit the office its a very enjoyable experience. I wanted to give a quick shout out to Chris there as today she was able to improvise a little bit to make sure my Invisalign trays looked great. She made sure to take her time and make sure I was 100% pleased after leaving the chair. Hands down 100% will always recommend McGarrell Ortho to all my friends and family.

Can't recommend very dishonest business practices. I reached out to them to in June to see how many more payments were left because I was laid off during Covid and the cobra dental benefits were expensive and I needed to know when it was safe to cancel. The Front office lied and said the last payment was in July and the account would be paid in full. October comes around and they are demanding another $100. Spoke to office manager Marci who admits she has notes of that conversation but says that her office made a mistake but now I am the one who has to pay for their mistake (after not returning my call for two weeks). Run don't walk from them.

McGarrell is great! My teeth look amazing, and the few problems that I've encountered since having my braces removed have been fixed almost immediately. The staff is super friendly, and both the Schertz and Cibolo locations are so nice! Definitely recommend.

My son had his treatment with Dr.McGarrell the office is beautiful and the staff is always friendly and extremely helpful. Loved the service and results we received and I'll definitely be returning with my daughter for her braces.

My son is currently going through braces he is a little over a year in and is on the final portion of the process. McGarrell and his staff have been wonderful from the start of the process. We would recommend to anyone considering braces.
