Dr. Austin Haught was born and raised in Encinitas, CA. He obtained his undergraduate degree at UCLA, majoring in chemical engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering. He then went on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine. Prior to returning to his hometown of Encinitas and joining Smiles by Design, Dr. Austin practiced for several years as an associate in a group practice in San Diego.
Dr. Austin believes in giving back and volunteers with Healing California, providing free dental care to homeless and at-risk veterans. He has also volunteered his time with Give Kids a Smile and a mission trip to Tonga, providing dental care to underserved patients, many of whom had never had access to a dentist. Dr. Austin has worked in research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and volunteered at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic in Pennsylvania. When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys fishing, scuba diving, sailing, and spending time with his wife and children.
Dr. Austin is committed to continuing education with extensive training in implants, CEREC and all aspects of cosmetic and general dentistry. Dr. Austin is an Invisalign provider. This office is everything I could hope for in quality, professionalism, and care. They really understand and are dedicated to providing great service. I was referred by a friend, and was not disappointed. I'm so relieved to finally have found a team that I'm comfortable with. I've been at Smiles By Design for the past year now and I've been very happy with them. They came highly recommended by freinds that have been with them for about 8 years. I love how freindly and caring the staff and dentest are. They are also very professional and use state of the art equipment which makes things so much faster and easier. I've had two new crowns set which they make in office, and I've had a digital sketch of my teeth completed which saves time and the messy process of getting a mold made for teeth trays (for whitening, mouth guards etc.). The intire staff is respectful, knowledgeable and they talk you through each step of the process. I also love how forthcoming they are with pricing. Greatful to have found them Ally

I choose smiles by design because the close proximity to my house and my busy schedule. However after researching them, and looking at their site, their before and afters and reading about the dentist I decided to come in for a cleaning. I always have anxiety going to the dentist, but everyone I met was really nice, and they had many of those patient perks th t help patients feel alittle more at ease. My hygienist was very informative on everything they were going to do along with what my next steps were for my future appointments I need to schedule like my root canal. Overall the appointment was fast, informative, and experience made me want to come back for my future appointments. I work in the field of dental marketing and this place is really great, you can tell they really have the knowledge and experience to get you the results you want.

Fantastic! I'm a severe grinder. As a result over time, my front bottom teeth were uneven, poorly gapped, and very unattractive. Dr. McElroy was able to vastly improve them. Through a series of veneers, he was able to close the gaps and replace my worn down teeth. The difference is instant and amazing! I literally felt more confident as soon as he handed me a mirror and I saw his work and artistry. He along with his assistant, Charisse, made the process comfortable and professional--which is exactly what I get every time I visit the office whether it's for a cleaning or something more intricate. I highly recommend "Doc" McElroy and his entire staff.

Everyone is super professional, helpful, go out of their way to make all of my and my elderly mother's experiences wonderful!!! They have the most up-to-date techniques and equipment! I've been to many dentists and by far this practice is THE BEST!!!!

This place looks nice, they spend A LOT of money on marketing. They charge 2-3 times more compare to other good dentist. They also force you to sign a consent after you already did your CT scan, so they can charge you $350 for getting a copy of your own medical record. Other places only changes me $15 for a CD materials fee. Don't waste your money here.
