Dr. Judy McDonnell is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. Following her graduation from dental school, she served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a dental officer. In her first year, she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency-- an additional year of training in complex dental procedures. After having earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander, she was honorably discharged in 2007.
Dr. McDonnell has treated active duty Navy personnel stationed in Norfolk, VA and Jacksonville, FL; young Marine Recruits at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in Parris Island, SC; and personnel from all branches of the military, including dignitaries, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. For her distinguished service she received both a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
After her military service, Dr. McDonnell worked as a clinical instructor for the Dental Hygiene Program at Daytona State College and practiced comprehensive dentistry in several large general dental practices.
Dr. McDonnells practice of dentistry in a military, civilian and teaching capacity has allowed her to truly recognize the importance of prevention of dental disease. Dr. McDonnell is dedicated to providing quality, comprehensive dental care with a focus on education and prevention.
Most recently, Dr. Hovencamp has been practicing in the Port Orange area and is excited about her transition to our New Smyrna Beach location. She is a true local to the New Smyrna Beach area. She was born and raised here in NSB and is proud to be able to serve the community that she calls home.
In their free time, Dr. Hovencamp and her husband, Jeremy, enjoy vintage and antique cars. They have a small collection they enjoy taking to car shows and cruising around town. They have 3 dogs, 3 cows and a cat.

Had a toothache while vacationing in NSB from Canada. After going through lots of Google reviews I selected McDonnell Dental Care in NSB. Doctor Hovencamp and her staff were friendly and clearly explained my options. I felt so blessed to have selected this dental office out of all the choices in the area!

My husband and I found McDonnell Dental Care from a postal flyer when we moved here 4 years ago. We have never been disappointed with the staff, care, or cost of our decision. We recommend this group to all who are in the same position we were. This is the wrong picture of course. The Brooklyn Bridge is nowhere near the practice!

As a community leader and businessman, I just wanted to share my experience with Dr. Judy McDonnell. I had broken one of my crowns and looked like the character in "The Hangover"! It was very embarrassing. Dr. Judy was so kind to work me in with her new equipment and literally remade my tooth in about an hour. It was the most unbelievable service I've experienced in New Smyrna Beach with any dentist! Her staff is awesome too - always polite and nice. I highly recommend Dr. Judy McDonnell as a dentist, as well as her staff.

I believe one's teeth & smile is as important as the look in their eyes as a identifying window into how a person feels about themselves. I'm thankful my wife convinced me to schedule a visit with Dr. Judy who restored my full smile. It's also important to note that even though my "in network" NSB dentist offered a similar procedure, I was hesitant because Dr. Judy is "out of network," but her staff was willing and able to provide me the pricing prior to my visit, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they were able to accept our insurance and to my amazement, the bill was literally half of what my "in network" dentist had quoted me for the same procedure...IN NETWORK! You've earned two new loyal clients "IN YOUR NETWORK!" Now if that is not earning a FIVE STAR review I don't know what is! PS: Thanks for the phone call to check on me on a Friday night too, Dr. Judy. With much appreciation and gratitude - Matt & Teri Tucciarelli NSB.

Dr. McDonnell is an excellent dentist! She is not only skilled as a dentist, but she is also very kind and compassionate. I needed extensive dental work which she completed without complications. I highly recommend her and her staff for any dental needs!

I was extremely nervous about going to the dental office during a pandemic, but I was very relieved to realize when I got there that I had nothing to worry about. I had an infection in a crown on a premolar. I had been passed around from a dentist to a root canal specialist and McDonnell Dental Care were professional and helped me out. I feel healthier already, thanks so much!
