I have been in practice for over 35 years now, and each day provides a new challenge. I truly love the dental profession and have never regretted my decision to make dentistry my lifes work. After obtaining a combined biology-chemistry undergraduate degree, Dr. Thomas McCrary decided to continue on to graduate school and major in biology at Appalachian State University. However, he had contemplated dentistry throughout his studies, and then he applied and was accepted at Georgetown University School of Dentistry.Upon graduating from Georgetown, Dr. McCrarycompleted a rotating internship concentrating in prosthodonticsat the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Clarksburg, WVA.
Dr. McCraryhas continuedpostgraduate studies at the Dawson Academy of occlusion, the Las Vegas institute of Postgraduate Studies and he completed a five-year certificated program in orthodontics at the United States Dental Institute..A premierdentist in Northern Virginia to offer Lumineers veneers, Dr. McCrary recently took the companys advanced course on technologicallyimproved materials. New techniques being used to make even thinner veneers, making it possible to place them over crowns.
He also finds time to attendvarious state society meetings and conventions, where he is able to hear world-renowned speakers in the field of dentistry, learn the latest in materials, research and equipment, Locally and even on vacation he attends various study clubs and takes many courses on his own.
Dr. McCrary grew up right here in Northern Virginia and currently lives in Oakton with his wife and their two Cairn terriers. He has two grown children and four grandsons who live near enough to enjoy their frequent visits. Dr. McCrarys favorite leisure activities include gardening, traveling, attending the theater, and fishing. Whilehe just recently started playing golf, Dr. McCraryfinds that hereally enjoys it as well.
Dr. McCrarys interest in art was inspired by his mother, a renowned artist. He enjoys purchasing art to enlarge the collection he inherited from his family, integrating new pieces with his mothers artworks, some of which are shown in the office.

After college, I began a career with a large corporation as a manager but the past 15 years with Dr. McCrary has been my most rewarding time in the work world. I absolutely love our patients and know that we have the very best that Northern Virginia has to offer. Many have been coming all of their lives and we are now seeing grandchildren. I doenjoy hearing and seeing pictures of all thefamilies. What is especially interesting about being in this area is the fact that we have patients from all over the world, students, Embassy attaches, all sharing stories of their cultures.
I assist Dr. McCrary with anything he needs to make our patients procedures comfortable, efficient, and pain-free. I love learning and hearing about all aspects of dentistry especially interacting with the patients. I enjoy attending courses with Dr. McCrary learning new procedures, techniques and materials, then returning to the office to implement them.
Having been interested in art from an early age I obtained a degree in art studio. Dental assisting has allowed me to use my artistic abilities in many ways. I assist in choosing new furnishings, arranging our unique art work, in addition to assisting Dr. McCrary
I love pets, and since my family has a pet business, I am able to assist sometimes with that. My boyfriend and I recently received certification in the Community Emergency Response Teamprogram here in Northern Virginia, which was most rewarding. We now feel prepared to assist the community during any disaster. I also feel confident in handling an emergency that might occur here in the office.
I find dental hygiene to be the most rewarding of jobs I have ever held.What job can beat working in such a challenging environment where you are interacting with some many personalities, occupations, and health conditions? Each patient has different expectations of their hygienist. I enjoy catching up with them on each of their scheduled visits, seeing if my instructions and treatment have produced the positive effects I had hoped for. I also hear of changes in their personal lives, their children, their trips, and whatever they care to discuss with me.
Outside the office my boyfriend, Daryn, and I enjoy walking our little Bichon, Tom-Tom, and caring for our two cats. I also enjoy working out, eating at good northern Virginia restaurants, scuba diving, attending movies, and reading.
I am a graduate of the Old Dominion School of Dental Hygiene. After working as a dental assistant, I was certain that my path was leading further into dentistry. I love meeting all people, so I approach each new patient with as much enthusiasm as any hygienist possibly could. I love teaching them new techniques and about the latest dental products on the market. When I leave the office, my head is burrowed in such subjects as physics, leading toward my goal of a DDS degree.
My interests, when there is time, include speeding around in my shiny new BMW. I do enjoy traveling around the country, especially California, and going home to Korea, dreaming of finishing travels around the world. I love trying new restaurants, with a contest going on among the new hamburger joints.
