Dr. Emily Mayhew was born and raised in Jefferson County, WV. She received her BS in Animal and Nutritional Sciences from WVU in 2008, before earning her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from WVU School of Dentistry in 2012. As a student, Dr. Mayhew was awarded the Academy of Operative Dentistry Award for Excellence in Fillings. Since beginning practice, she has continued her education, and is LASER and CPR certified.
Dr. Mayhew says that it felt natural to continue her familys tradition by becoming a dentist. She loves building relationships with patients and helping them to feel better about their oral health. Dr. Mayhew enjoys creating dental works of art, while treating each patient as she would her own family.
Dr. Ted Smith is originally from Charleston, WV, but is now proud to be a Jefferson county resident. He received a degree in Anthropology from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2006, then went on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from WVU in 2012. Dr. Smith gained certified in LASER and CPR, as part of his commitment to ongoing education.
In 2012, Dr. Smith was awarded the Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics Excellence in Prosthodontics Award. He was also recognized the same year with the Student Achievement in Endodontics Award, presented by the American Academy of Endodontics. He maintains memberships in the ADA and the Eastern Panhandle Dental Society.

I usually have a lot of anxiety associated with going to the Dentist. From having hands in my mouth to feeling guilty about not flossing enough. Since my first visit at Mayhew and Smith, all my anxieties were acknowledge and they have been very patient and kind everytime I (or my 3 year old) visit! Brett is my favorite dental hygienist as she repeatedly checks in to make sure I am a doing OK and gives me breaks throughout my cleanings. Highly recommend for anyone who have had bad dentist experiences in the past to start having a proper dentist experience!

I've been going to Dr. Mayhew for more years than I can count (over 20 years, perhaps 30). Dr. Ted Smith and Dr. Emily Mayhew took over and I'm pleased with the transition. Very professional, listens to my concerns and the front desk is wonderful.

Outstanding! Entire experience was outstanding. The entire staff is excellent. Very nice and very professional. My hygienist, Brett, did an amazing job cleaning my teeth with a meticulous attention to detail. I have not had a teeth cleaning like that in quite a while. Dr. Mayhew is incredibly knowledgeable and informative with a notable attention to detail in her craft. The office is, of course, meticulously clean and very welcoming. Glad I was referred to Mayhew and Smith Dentistry.

It has always been a pleasure going for appointments at the Mayhews Dentist office. The staff are professional and courteous at all times. My wife and I have Brett for our hygienist, and she is always pleasant and professional. She makes you feel comfortable on every visit. I have Dr Ted and my wife has Dr Emily, and we could not be more pleased. They are both excellent Dentist.

They were amazing. So friendly and the environment was kid friendly too. They were patient with my 6 year old that is why she was so comfortable and let them check her teeth with ease. She was so happy and she is looking forward her next appointment. Even my 19 month old loved it there. We were greeted with smiles, the Dental Hygienist was sweet. The Dentist was awesome as well. Love it here totally recommend them.

Great Dentist very efficient and effective services, office staff does as they promise. When I needed emergency services they worked me in and said they would call me back if something sooner opened up. They called me back within hours and had something open up for the next morning. True customer service is always a winner with me!!!

I have been going here for over 10 years. Today I had a new person, Brett, clean my teeth. She was great and so friendly! My only suggestion for them would be to offer replacement heads for folks that have electric toothbrushes in the goody bag they offer. I highly recommend them.

Took the time necessary to show me all the ex-rays and pics, explain what all the issues were and what options were available and gave sound professional advice. Was obviously after the best, most economical treatment for me rather than the most profitable for the practice! Highly recommend!

Chipped a tooth on Saturday. Called Monday morning and they were able to accommodate me and my schedule allowing me to be seen by Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately I need a crown so Doc Emily smoothed the rough edges to save it from rubbing my tongue. I don't mind going to the dentist when they treat you like family.

Would highly recommend Mayhew and Smith Dentistry to anyone living in the area in need of an routine dental care or traveling through Harpers Ferry with a dental emergency. Extremely professional staff and business with excellent patient care. I was traveling through Harpers Ferry and had an unexpected dental emergency. Dr. Smith was able to see me immediately (same day) and address and treat the dental issue. If you are in the area and are in need of dental care this place is the spot. I cannot say enough positive things about the office. I had a dental emergency and at 4pm they gladly took me in and helped me. I am so relieved to have them work so hard and staying late to fix my tooth. The staff and Dr. Mayhew were professional and kind. Plus they did a great job!
