Dr. Mary Alice grew up right here in Mauldin, SC and is a proud graduate of Mauldin High School. After leaving Mauldin, she made a stop in Columbia, SC to receive her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of South Carolina, and in Charleston, SC to obtain a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina.
During college and dental school Dr. Mary Alice served in many leadership roles including Class President of her dental school class all four years. After dental school, Dr. Mary Alice worked as a general dentist treating children, working in a free clinic, delivering dental care abroad, and spending time in the Florida Dept of Health before making the decision to return to school to specialize in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Mary Alice completed her pediatric dentistry residency in Bronx, NY at Montefiore Medical Center where she did a one-year fellowship before completing a two year residency and served as Chief Resident during her last year in the Bronx.
When Dr. Mary Alice isnt busy taking care of children and their dental needs she enjoys spending time with her family including her husband, Adam Hardin and their precious rescue dog, Marvin, running outside, relaxing at the beach, cheering for Braves baseball and unconditionally supporting her beloved South Carolina Gamecocks!
Dr. Mary Alice has traveled around the world providing dental care to underserved populations and has received many leadership and clinical excellence awards throughout her education, including the Grace H. Lim Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence and the Earl B. Higgins Student Leadership in Diversity Award.
Dr. Mary Alice is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, also known as a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. She is so excited to bring her knowledge and clinical skills back to Mauldin to serve her hometown and she cannot wait to meet you!

Dr. Mary Alice is the best of the best! She is so patient and kind with children. My kids love going to the dentist now. I would highly recommend her and her team!

Awesome place!! They have a fun, bright atmosphere and kind, caring staff! My son use to have dental anxiety until seeing Dr. Mary Alice. She is calm and patient and just awesome with kids! She speaks to the kids on their level and puts him at ease every time he sees her. I can not say enough great things about this office and staff!!

Love Mary Alice and the staff but I think it's it's awful they don't take emergency's into consideration my daughter is screaming crying with her front tooth hurting and they said it will be two weeksAnd as far as scheduling goes Susan is the only one there that is good the other lady mixed my appointment up told me the appointment was at a later time then wouldn't see us I missed work I am out of money I love an hour away from Mavrick smiles and my kids missed school with no excuse now

My toddler loves Maverick Smiles! She has some sensory processing issues and they are really great with keeping her calm and making her not scared. I couldn't be happier with choosing y'all as our dentist.

Not good for autistic kiddos. The assistant had no idea how to handle my autistic son. I went once and never went back.

The best experience with a Pediactric Dentistry ever for us! Staff was very welcoming and kind. Very engaging with my child and made her feel very comfortable. I do believe we've found our fit here. I would give more stars if I could!

Was worried how my daughter would do since it's a struggle getting her to brush at home. Everyone was warm and welcoming and the office is very clean. Bri the hygienist did a wonderful job keeping my child calm through the cleaning.

Absolutely outstanding. The staff were warm, friendly, genuine, and highly proficient. I will not be taking my children anywhere else and I recommend you don't either. The dentist isn't much of a Nick Saban fan but nobodies perfect.

As the parents of a special needs child, a trip to the dentist can be daunting for the whole family, but when you are in such a caring environment, even the most challenging moments of the procedure are made less stressful! Maverick smiles did not disappoint! I'm so glad that I chose Dr. Mary Alice Hughes as my children's dentist. It's refreshing when a doctor isn't rushing to get to the next patient but actually takes time to talk with the children and truly care about their dental hygiene. Our kids have been to multiple "pediatric" dentists with no positive feedback to give. We kept searching until we found Dr. Mary Alice. We will search no further. To say she has been awesome with my babies is an understatement. My 5 year old has sensory issues and has always hated the dentist. My 4 year old is just very shy and scared of everything. Dr. Mary Alice has went out of her way to make them both feel comfortable. They refer to her as "the dentist we like". Thank you so much for everything you do Dr. Mary Alice!!!
