Dr. Kylea Tibbs-Hnizdo began her practice at Maurer Family Dental in February 2013. She grew up in nearby Petersburg and attended PORTA schools. She completed her bachelor of science in biology at the University of Illinois at Springfield. She continued on to the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and graduated cum laude in 2011. She practiced elsewhere locally before coming to Maurer Family Dental. Dr. Kylea has been trained in the latest techniques and technologies. She shares Dr. Maurers dedication to the dental profession and to her patients.

In her own words, Dr. Kylea was motivated to pursue a career in dentistry by a desire to serve people. The patient is the most important person in my dental practice. The patient deserves to be treated as an individual and with respect. I feel you, the patient, should play an integral role in your dental care. My job as a dentist is to diagnose any treatment needs, educate you about these needs, and explain all treatment options. I use my skills and knowledge as a professional to educate you about your mouth and help you to make decisions regarding this important aspect of your health.

She attended Randolph-Macon Womans College in Lynchburg, Virginia for two years before earning a double-major Bachelor of Arts degree in physics and Russian from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri in 2002. She took additional undergraduate coursework at the University of Illinois Springfield and Lincoln-Land Community College. She then attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Dr. Fluckiger worked for Benton and Associates in Jacksonville, Illinois in civil engineering, focusing on water and wastewater engineering.

She married Dr. Christopher Maurer in December 2009, and together they built Maurer Family Dental. Following his death in 2012, she returned to school to become a dentist. She was inspired by Dr. Maurers dedication to the career of dentistry and the satisfaction he gained from treating patients.

Dr. Fluckiger graduated cum laude from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2017. She enjoys continuing Dr. Maurers legacy at Maurer Family Dental and helping each patient that she encounters.

The success of his two sisters, Sue and Joanne, in their dental careers and a strong desire to serve the greater public influenced him to eventually leave his career as a financial advisor and pursue dentistry. He returned to the University of Illinois at Springfield to take prerequisite courses for dental school.

In 2011, Dr. Christopher Maurer graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He and his wife, Trisha, purchased the house and property where the office is located that year and began the work of transforming it into a dental office.

From May 2012 until February 2013, Dr. Allison (Buss) Beehner, a very good friend of Dr. Maurers and his wifes from dental school, filled in the gap as dentist, driving from Bloomington to Springfield several times a month to see patients.

In February 2013, Maurer Family Dental had the great fortune of hiring Dr. Kylea Tibbs-Hnizdo as a full-time dentist. Dr. Kylea and Dr. Maurer became friends at the University of Illinois at Springfield and graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine together. Dr. Kylea continues the same level of patient care that Dr. Maurer aimed for.
