Maureen H Lefkoff, DDS, MS, PA - Periodontist in Columbia, MD

Dr. Lefkoff then completed a one year General Practice Residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital, where she honed her dental skills and received valuable experience in managing patients with various medical conditions. She practiced general dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to school to study periodontology.

Dr. Lefkoff received her post-graduate training in Periodontics at the Ohio State University, College of Dentistry, where she received advanced clinical training and conducted clinical research. She participated in a three year residency and received a Certificate in Periodontology and a Masters of Science Degree in December 1992.

Dr. Lefkoff moved to Maryland after completing her residency, working as a periodontist in the greater Baltimore area. She started her own practice in Columbia in October 1995. Dr. Lefkoff's office was located on Governor Warfield Parkway, near the Columbia Mall, until January 2005, when she moved to her current location on Snowden River Parkway.

Dr. Lefkoff continues to grow professionally by participating in numerous continuing education programs. Dr. Lefkoff is particularly proud of attending the prestigious Misch International Implant Institute in 2002 and 2003. In October 2012, she attended the Center for Advanced Dental Education course 20/20 Oral Plastic Surgery, lead by Edward P. Allen, D.D.S., Ph.D. to learn the Minimally Invasive Soft Tissue Grafting Technique.

Dr. Lefkoff strives to provide the highest quality of periodontal care by paying meticulous attention to the details. She combines her knowledge and skills with compassion and exceptional customer service to make your entire experience in her office outstanding.

Your experience in Dr. Lefkoff's office will be unique. You will almost always be seen promptly. You will get a thorough examination, and Dr. Lefkoff will take the time to explain her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. You will be treated with respect and dignity, and will be able to express your dental desires and concerns.

Dr. Lefkoff will provide you with the most current, sophisticated, and advanced techniques available. She combines the latest technology with sound reasoning skills and good judgment. Her modern office is meticulously clean and exceeds MOSHA requirements for infection control. Dr. Lefkoff uses digital radiography, three dimensional imaging, and sophisticated micro-surgical instruments.

Since Dr. Lefkoff's passion and expertise in the field of periodontics continues to flourish, starting in 2015 she is exclusively providing periodontal care and will no longer be placing dental implants.

Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is part of Dr. Lefkoff's practice and has many advantages. It allows her to obtain diagnostic quality, detail-rich images quickly, and to electronically share these radiographs with your general dentist or other specialists, which makes collaboration of your care more efficient and accurate. More importantly for your health, digital radiographs require less radiation than film.

Dr. Lefkoff uses microsurgical instruments to perform minimally invasive soft tissue grafts using an acellular dermal matrix, such as AlloDerm. This technique has many benefits for patients, including less pain, less swelling and better cosmetic results. The acellular dermal matrix is a sterile human connective tissue matrix that contains no blood and no cells and is used instead of the patient's own palatal tissue. Use of this tissue avoids the complications, discomfort, and fear associated with the use of donor tissue from the patient's palate. The technique results in much less pain and swelling, and the cosmetic results are generally excellent.

We do not participate with any insurance plans; however, we will happily and promptly submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf. Any benefits paid by your insurance company will be sent directly to you.

No pain, no discomfort and the most incredible chairside manner I have experienced in many years of dental care. Dr. Lefkoff did a bone graft for me 18 months ago and I went back to work that afternoon. Amazing!

If you are looking for incredible skill mixed with warmth and kindness, then Dr. Lefkoff's practice is where you should be. She performed a bone graft on this dental phobic and since then, I have had no fear of the dental chair. Her compassion is only outweighed by her skill and knowledge.

Dr. Lefkoff, what can I say? Your constant attention to a patient's comfort made a 40 year fear of the dental chair disappear. I can never repay the kindness you and your staff showed me the day of my bone graft and might I add, experiencing no pain afterwards was an added bonus. Thank you!

I had gotten surgery on my mouth once before from a different doctor, and it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. They did the procedure without even numbing my mouth! I was terrified when my mouth condition came back, because I didn't want to go though that horrible experience again.

But then my Nana suggested I go to Dr. Lefkoff, she had just gotten a procedure done that was supposed to be very painful; and Dr. Lefkoff made it painless. I went there so nervous that it would be as horrible as it had been before; but the procedure was done before I knew it!

My experiences with Dr. Lefkoff have always been very positive. She successfully treated my condition with a difficult series of surgeries that spanned several weeks. Through it all, Dr. Lefkoff proved to be both a skilled and compassionate doctor.

Her cheery demeanor put me at ease immediately. As the surgeries proceeded, her competence was obvious. She addressed all my concerns, and she was always available when I had subsequent questions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Lefkoff to others.

Dr. Lefkoff will review your medical and dental history and perform a thorough examination that includes an oral cancer screening, periodontal exam, and evaluation for other signs of dental disease. Digital radiographs, if indicated, will also be taken. She will explain her findings, tell you your diagnosis, and make treatment recommendations. She will discuss all fees for the recommended treatments with you, and she will provide you with a written treatment plan.

There are many ways to address your apprehension. The first way Dr. Lefkoff addresses it is by taking the time to listen to your concerns, and by adequately explaining and discussing what will take place during treatment. She has found that just knowing what to expect helps to decrease anxiety.

The use of dental anesthesia generally makes your treatment painless. Dr. Lefkoff uses topical anesthetic before all dental injections to provide maximum comfort during the brief time the anesthetic is given.

Dr. Lefkoff has chosen not to participate with any dental insurance companies, because her goal is to provide you with the highest quality of care possible. Unfortunately dental insurance does not cover many of the procedures she provides. In addition, when the insurance company does provide benefits for a procedure, the insurance reimbursement is often not sufficient to adequately cover the cost of materials and current technological advances.

By not participating with any dental insurance plans, Dr. Lefkoff can make her decisions and treatment recommendations based on what will provide you the best dental health, rather than on what treatments your insurance company may cover.

Yes, everyone is welcome. We will tell you all fees ahead of time and provide you with a written treatment plan that clearly shows your financial responsibility/obligation. Please see our financial policy for more details
