Every dentist completes dental school to become licensed and begin practicing, but some opt to pursue further schooling within a particular specialty. Each program focuses on one of nine core competencies and requires an additional two to three years of program-specific residency. Board-certified endodontists demonstrate exceptional knowledge and skill, dedication to their continued professional growth, and a commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care. Their certification means that they not only have reached the highest level of education in endodontics but also provide enhanced techniques in their care of patients.

In order to provide his patients with the safest, most modern diagnostic care, our team uses Cone Beam Computed Tomography, or CBCT. In fact, Dr. Maupin contributed to CBCT research and is extremely familiar with its advantages. An advanced type of digital radiography, CBCT provides 3D images of structures beneath the teeth and gums, including unprecedented views of teeth roots, internal canals, and bone structure. It is generally used for evaluation prior to surgery and for difficult diagnostic cases. CBCT drastically reduces radiation exposure while providing the necessary information for more targeted and effective endodontic treatment.
With extensive training in microsurgical and microscopic techniques, Dr. Maupins dental office is well-equipped with surgical operating microscopes and uses only the top-of-the-line Zeiss ProErgo. With these incredible technological tools, our team is able to preserve more of your natural tooth structure while identifying tooth canals, locating problems such as cracks and root fractures, and providing the highest level of care available to you.
The X-Guide is a revolutionary new system that extends the capabilities of the cone beam system for simplified and more accurate implant procedures. The X-Guide is a 3D navigation system that delivers interactive, turn-by-turn guidance which allows our doctors to improve the precision and accuracy of the implant. Currently, our office is the only one in Lubbock that utilizes the X-Guide.
Endodontics is a discipline of dentistry that focuses on the roots and inside of the tooth. Endodontists are dentists who specialize in maintaining teeth through endodontic therapy or procedures that involve the soft inner tissue of the teeth. In addition to dental school, endodontists receive two or more years of advanced education in endodontic treatment, studying root canal techniques and procedures in greater depth. All dentists are trained in endodontic therapy, but some teeth can be very difficult to treat and diagnose. The advanced training endodontists receive makes them especially adept at diagnosing tooth pain and treating difficult cases.
We understand that many patients fear the discomfort of root canal treatment. Some patients may even ignore pain and avoid treatment due to dental phobias. Neglecting your oral health can lead to tooth loss, disease, and overall health problems. Dont let nervousness or apprehension keep you from seeking the dental care you need. At Maupin Endodontics, we offer sedation to ease you into your procedure and provide you with a soothing experience.
Sedation can give you the peace of mind you need in order to undergo endodontic treatment. Our doctors can make recommendations for the type of sedation that best suits your needs and your unique circumstances. We offer three types of sedation: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation.
Todays anesthetics are very advanced and take much of the worry out of endodontic treatment. We take every measure to ensure that your procedure is as comfortable as possible. Before we begin any treatment, well let you know how to alert us to any discomfort you feel, and then a local anesthetic is gently injected to numb a concentrated area of your mouth. For most patients, this is sufficient pain management and the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.

Its best to try and replant the tooth into its socket. However, only replant a tooth that is clean! If the tooth has debris, for example, rinse with milk and then attempt to replant it. If you are unable to place the tooth back into the socket, store it in a container of milk, or water with a pinch of salt if milk is not available.
