Mattingly & Howell Orthodontics has been transforming smiles of all ages for over 50 years! We are a leading orthodontic practice with three centrally located clinics in the greater Louisville metropolitan area.
Dr. Chris Mattingly has been practicing orthodontics since 1991 in Louisville, Bardstown, and Lebanon. After graduating from Ballard High School, he attended Centre College and was admitted to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry after two years of undergraduate work.
Dr. Mattingly undertook a two-year residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 1991 at the University of Louisville, while simultaneously obtaining a Master's Degree in Oral Biology. He also completed his American Board of Orthodontic Diplomate certification in 2006.
Staying at the leading edge of orthodontics has always been a high priority for Dr. Mattingly. He is involved in several clubs, such as the 80s Orthodontic Study Club and the University of Louisville Alumni Association and is an active member of many associations, including:
Dr. Mattingly has also served as the president of the Kentucky Association of Orthodontics and the Louisville Dental Society, as well as leadership positions with the Southern Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Mattingly was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. To him, giving back to the dental profession is an honor, but his true passion lies in programs that help the less fortunate.
They have two daughters, Jordan and Mckenzie, who are incredible young ladies and carry on their mother's beautiful spirit every day. Both have continued the dental tradition with Jordan graduating from dental school in 2017 and Mckenzie from dental hygiene school in 2015.
Dr. Mattingly married Ms. Colette Delaney in 2018. Colette is from Louisville and has been a professional actress and singer at Derby Dinner Playhouse, The Stephen Foster Drama, The Mid-Kentucky Chorus, and various churches. Ms. Colette has 2 grown children, Daniel and Sedona who share their mother's gentle heart.
Our commitment to making people smile extends to the organizations, churches, schools, and teams of greater Louisville and its surrounding areas. We love volunteering our time and effort to these communities, and it truly warms our hearts to further our mission through our practice.
Mattingly & Howell Orthodontics is proud to participate in the Blessings in a Backpack program. This amazing program provides food for elementary school children across America over the weekends who might otherwise go hungry.
Were happy to share that our staff is also active in our community partnerships! To celebrate National Dental Health Month every February, some of our staff visit elementary schools to teach children how to properly care for their teeth.
Every year, Mattingly & Howell Orthodontics sponsors a continuing education course where we ask the participants to bring a new or barely used blanket as a donation to Blanket Louisville. This project distributes blankets to homeless shelters in the greater metropolitan area.
Smiles Change Lives is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free orthodontic treatment for children in need. Orthodontists across the country partner with SCL to provide braces for qualified children and teens.

I never saw myself at 49 getting Invisalign but here we are. Getting older and financially stable allows you to be able to do these things. My experience has been nothing but pure joy! The office staff is friendly and welcoming and knows you by name as soon as you walk through the door. Dr. Mattingly is wonderful he explains everything so everyone is on the same page and listens to your concerns and issues. I highly recommend Mattingly & Howell you will not be disappointed.

I've done both braces and Invisalign here and I love this place!! The doctors are always so friendly and they always make sure all of my needs are taken care of. They even offered me a snack while I wait.

My son is the patient and so far we've had a great experience here. We downloaded an app and submit pictures weekly of his teeth so they can monitor his progress! Great service, patient and knowledgeable.

I love all the staff and Dr. Howell and Dr. Mattingly. They always answer my questions no matter how silly they are to them. They are amazing about appointments and are always on time. My daughter and my son both got braces there and that was years ago and they were great then too. Definitely the best orthodontists around!

Dr. Chris Howell and the staff at Mattingly and Howell are absolutely amazing! My daughter had to have braces for an extended period of time, for medical necessity, and mere words can't express our gratitude to Dr. Howell for the excellent CARE provided.
