Dr. Blake Matthews graduated from Brigham Young University, where he received his B.S. in Microbiology with a Minor in Organizational Behavior. Dr. Matthews received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1994 from Creighton University, known for pioneering the way in the art of dental implant technology.

While in dental school, Dr. Matthews began research studies for both the Creighton University and the world-renowned non-profit organization Clinical Research Associates, (C.R.A.) now known as CR. Through constant research, Dr. Matthews has been able to stay on the cutting edge of technology and deliver the best in modern dentistry.

Dr. Matthews is also a graduate of the Pacific Aesthetic Continuum (P.A.C.-live) in San Francisco, California, a highly prestigious institute for advanced and comprehensive Cosmetic Dentistry. Having cosmetic dentistry as a big part of his dental practice focus since 1994, Dr. Matthews is well known for his exceptional ability to create the perfect gorgeous smile. He is also pleased to serve as a mentor and instructor for the White Cap Institute, where he instructs colleagues from around the country on Aesthetics, Dental Implants, Bone Grafting and Connective tissue grafting.

The Utah Valley Dental Association, in which Dr. Matthews has served as a past President, has enjoyed his service for over 19 years. Other professional organizations include: The American Dental Association, American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Osseo Integration Utah Dental Association, California Dental Association and the Chicago Dental Association. Dr. Matthews is a proud supporter of Brigham Young University Sports and Athletics and is a member of the B.Y.U. Sports Medicine & Dentistry Team.

In addition to maintaining a quality dental practice, Dr. Matthews is involved in supporting several charitable foundations. He supports Charity Anywhere participating in fundraising and humanitarian service missions with his family and members of his dental team. In addition, he also supports SMILES for Zimbabwe by donating dental supplies and hygiene kits to help children in Africa. Furthermore, Dr. Matthews believes that it is important to help those in need here in Utah Valley. He and his dental team continue to donate their dental skills to help those less fortunate to improving their smiles.

Dr. JD Ashman early in life knew he had a passion for dentistry. Unlike most 6th graders, JD took an interest in his friends loose teeth and often volunteered in aiding the removal of them. Growing up in Utah county, JD graduated from Timpanogos High school, got a B.S. in Biology at Utah Valley University, and went on to get is DMD at Western University of Health Science in California. JD claims his biggest accomplishment is earning the nickname white tornado while competing in baseball and football.

In 2014, JD was able to convince the love of his life Mykell to marry him. Since then, they have one son (Duke) and a second child (baby Girl on the way) due in July. Their family loves the outdoors such as hiking, fishing, camping, or just going out on a Sunday walk. As much as their son loved the California beaches, they are more than excited to be back where they both grew up.

While attending Western University of Health Science, JD was able to expand his knowledge in all areas of dentistry. Since WesternU does not have any specialty programs, JD was able to do several patient cases that only graduate specialty programs have to offer. JD looks forward to learning new innovative technology and embraces the challenges that dentistry has to offer.

Mary began her career in dentistry in 1992 in California where she worked for a group Oral Surgeons for 15 years prior to moving to Provo in 2007. While living in California she also worked part-time at Golden State Business College instructing insurance coding and billing, business communications, and other classes. Upon relocating to Provo she began working for Dr. Blake Matthews and has been employed with him since that time. Mary is a wonderful leader of our dental team at Matthews Smiles.

Chelsea began her dental career 12 years ago as a surgical assistant for a Periodontist. It was there that she fell in love with educating patients about their oral hygiene and helping them feel confident with their smile. As an Arizona native, Chelsea decided to leave the warmth to receive her bachelors degree at The College of Dental Hygiene. She has been with Matthews Smiles for over 3 years now and has loved creating friendships with our great patients. Chelsea enjoys making people laugh, playing outside, Face Timing her nieces and nephews, and of course Pizza.

Josie began her dental career 5 years ago in her home town in Utah County. One of Josies favorite things about being a dental assistant is being able to help patients receive the treatment they need while giving them the care they deserve. Josie loves making connections with people, whether its her patients or coworkers. During her free time you can find Josie in the mountains with her two dogs, or the arena with her horses.
