Dr. Matt was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. After graduating from Lakes High School in 2001, he went on to play football at the University of Washington for two seasons, before transferring to Pacific Lutheran University where he earned his bachelors degree in biology. Dr. Matt returned to the University of Washington for dental school in 2007 and graduated in 2011. Being drawn to Hawaii, Dr. Matt completed a 2 year advanced education in general dentistry residency in Hilo, HI from 2011-2013. While in Hilo, Dr. Matt discovered his passion for treating children and made the decision to specialize in pediatrics. He completed his pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Washingtons Center for Pediatric Dentistry and Seattle Childrens Hospital from 2013-2015, and while doing so, trained beneath some of pediatric dentistrys most celebrated authorities in preventive and restorative care, dental emergencies and trauma, dental sedation, general anesthesia, and care for children with special needs.
Dr. Matt is a member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistrys College of Diplomates, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, The Hawaii Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He is also an affiliate faculty with New York University/Langone Medical Centers Pediatric Dental Residency, Hawaii Region, has been recognized as a 'Best Dentist' by Honolulu Magazine 3 times and has been voted a Top Pediatric Dentist in Hawaii by the Facebook Group Kona Moms.
Miranda Simpson is Dr. Matt's personal assistant and the one who schedules his patients for work to be completed at the hospital. Miranda works one-on-one with families to coordinate their child's physical examination with their own primary care provider prior to the hospital visit. She is a mother of two young daughters herself and is dedicated to providing a specialized experience for helping families receive their treatment at the hospital.

My twins were seeing a different dentist and my daughter wound up needing to have several caps put onto her molars. We were initially dismayed that we would need to drive from Hilo to Kona for the procedure but it brought us into contact with this amazing gem of a dentist. He not only performed the procedure and made sure that she wouldn't experience any pain or trauma, but he personally called and checked up on her over the weekend afterward to make sure she was okay. When we drove to Kona for her follow-up appointment the following month, he performed a free exam on her twin brother just to help allay any lingering fears on her part. His method of giving each tooth a name of a cartoon character and the way their xray machine looks like a camera takes away much of the scary factor, leaving it a fun experience for the kids. He explains what is going on, he shows them their xrays and tells them what is good and what needs work, he doesn't talk down to them or their parents. Based on that visit, we made the decision to switch over to Dr. Matt and we do not regret it at all. My kids love Dr. Matt and his staff. They get excited about going to visit them all which says a lot for children who generally do not look forward to any kind of trip to an office. I refer people to them constantly because I believe in him and his crew.

All I can say is be aware from my experience he did excessive work on my 4 year old son without my knowledge and my son has a medical condition which I felt violated as there seem to be a communication issue.

Absolutely amazing staff! So sweet and made my daughter feel so comfortable. She's normally super scared of the dentist. She went in frightened and came out smiling and giggling. Want a wonderful experience. Absolutely recommend for every child!!!

He was so amazing with my son. I was so worried and held off trying to find the "right" doctor and stumbled upon Dr. Griffith and he is so amazing. I had this whole speech prepared in my head and the first thing he said to me was "I'm gonna take care of him lile he is my own" all fears dissapeared INSTANTLY. Thank you Dr. Matt for EVERYTHING you do for the kids. Bringing all my kids to see you now

Outstanding pediatric dentist. Great bedside manner and excellent with parents. Reasonable in his clinical approach, and is humble and authentic. I drive my 7 year old an hour and a half each way because it's worth it.

Dr. Griffith is THEEEE BEST!! We first seen him when my oldest was 3 and now hes 9. So good we hunted him down when he moved offices lol! He has now seen 3 of my children. There is no one else I would take my kids to. Hes thorough, very patient and great with dealing/easing my babies. My kids do not fear the dentist and I believe it's because of their experience with him on every visit. From the 1st visit to regular visits to emergency visits.. he has been consistent everytime! I had to take my young son in for a potentially traumatic procedure. Dr Griffeth was kind, listened, put Mom and child at ease and got us in right away. He gave me instructions to insure that my son was protected from any anxiety about what was going to happen which was huge for me. I'm an empathetic by nature and he gave me tips that I had not even thought of to help aid my son in preparation for what needed to be done. He was kind, gentle, respectful and extremely caring for my child. His technique and thoughtfulness gave my son peace and confidence and he is looking forward to going back for cleanings and won't be afraid of anything else that may arise. I have scheduled apts with Dr Griffith for check ups and cleaning for my other children who are excited to get there turn to go to the dentist!
