Dr. Mike graduated from UMDNJ (now Rutgers University) dental school in 2005, where he met his wife, oral surgeon Lindsay Scoggins, DMD. They have two young boys, Tyler and Shane. In his spare time, Dr. Mikes love of sports keeps him busy coaching various sports teams in the community, including 13 years at Caldwell High School. In fact, he says that had he not pursued dentistry, he would have chosen a career of teaching and coaching. Fortunately for your smile, Dr. Mike loves working as a dentist in his community. He is also an attending dentist at Mountainside Hospital, where he teaches dental residents the latest dental techniques.
Dr. Tom graduated from UMDNJ dental school in 1968. He is so passionate about education that he takes over 42 hours of advanced training a year, studying at prestigious institutes such as Dawson and Spears. Why? He absolutely wants the best for his patients and stays up-to-date on all the latest techniques and materials to better their health. In his free time, he sits on two boards of education Fairfield for six years, and West Essex for 19. When not helping his friends and neighbors discover better, healthier smiles, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and traveling. He and his wife Pat reside in Fairfield and spend their summers in Long Beach Island.

Michelle has been dedicated to dental care for 28 years 25 of those years have been right here at Masella Family Dental and shes loving it! A big part of my job here involves talking to patients and making them feel as comfortable as possible, says Michelle. We also make things convenient for patients: We are such a high-tech office that we can do pretty much everything right here at Masella Dental. Patients dont need to be referred out. Making people feel better is what our team is all aboutbut we arent just a team, we are a family! Michelle loves spending time with her family and her dog, Frosty. In her free time, she enjoys Zumba, quadding, and kayaking.
When Patricia isnt gushing over our advanced technology, she stays busy caring for patients and educating them on how to keep their teeth and gums healthy. I work with the best staff ever, enthuses Patricia. Our patients always come first. She has spent 30 years making people smile and now her two grandchildren make her smile. In her spare time, Patricia likes to golf. Shetakes pride in being thorough but yet very gentle.
If you need any help with keeping your dentistry affordable or with your insurance claim, Lisa is the person to talk to. Not only does she have 28 years of experience, she also loves staying busy helping patients get the care they need, and says, This office is all about the people we treat! When she is not assisting our patients, she is active in Cub Scout committees, spending time with her family, reading, or crocheting.
Educated at the Berdan Institute in Totowa, NJ, Karen received her CDA from Middlesex County College and has worked in dentistry for 35 years! When you rely on that kind of experience, you can be sure you will remain comfortable and well cared for during any procedure. One of the biggest thrills of working at Masella Dental is the ability to work side-by-side with her best friend, Michelle Laratta. But her enjoyment of her job doesnt end there. Our office is a warm and caring atmosphere, brags Karen. Our patients are more like friends to us! When she is not in the office, or fundraising for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Karen enjoys going to the beach, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Lori began working with Dr. Tom Masella when she was only 18. The on-the-job training she received during her first ten years with our practice was so invaluable, and her experience so positive, that, after taking 18 years off to raise her children, Lori is back with us againand loving it! We all really love what we do at this practice and you can see it in the patient experience we offer. Our patients are treated like members of our own families! I truly care about our patients and the people I work with, and the friendships I have made along the way are Lori has lived in Caldwell all her life, and it is evident in the way she truly cares about her community. Its one of the reasons she came back to work in our community-centered practice! But no matter how much she loves her work with us, Lori says she will always be a mom first, and she spends as much time as she can with her husband, Jeff, and their four children.
Losing teeth can feel devastating. Not only does tooth loss affect your smile, it also interferes with speech patterns and your diet. Thankfully, dental implants offer a stable, reliable method of tooth replacement that can last for a lifetime. Each implant has the capability to support a single crown, or can be used to anchor full-mouth restorations such as dentures. The materials used in implants are strong, and encourage new bone formation around them, making them more stable than your natural teeth.
Other dental offices restore implants, but they dont actually provide the surgical placement. Dr. Mike has extensive experience in the placement of implants from start to finish. This allows us to complete all of our implant cases here in our office. From the initial installation of the titanium implant, to the final fixed prosthesis, youll have each step performed by Dr. Mike or Dr. Tom. If youve had an implant placed by someone else, we can provide any type of restorative services you might need, such as new crowns or bridges.
Implant-retained dentures offer a permanent, stable alternative to conventional dentures. Theseare slim, U-shaped prostheses that can be anchored onto as few as four implant roots. The final prosthetics are anchored in the mouth, making them the most stable denture option available in dentistry.
By capturing 3D images of the jaws and bone with our CT scanning equipment, implants can be placed more efficiently. This means that recovery time is shorter, and that patients may still be able to have the treatment completed even if they thought it was not an option. Utilizing 3D technology allows implants to be placed where bone is the strongest, ensuring a successful, stable placement that can be depended on. Dr. Mike uses the digital mockups of your mouth to prepare for your surgery.

The staff is wonderful and Dr. Masella is a great dentist. He knows his stuff and is top of the field and has great bedside manner. The entire experience was easy and the staff was kind and welcoming. Doc's hygienist is the best and I was shocked at how easy and pain free the cleaning was even after COVID and a pregnancy caused me to skip a regular cleaning (and I hate going to the dentist).

Incredibly professional and friendly practice. When I informed them before cleaning that I have very sensitive teeth, they took extra care to be gentle but thorough. Dr. Mike Masella was really nice, and the whole experience helped me feel good about going again, when I have DREADED visits in the past. On my way out, they even explained future procedures with an itemized receipt. I am so glad they were recommended to me!

I highly recommend Masella Family Dental. He is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. I literally have sent over all of my family and friends and their kids. Wonderful dentist, wonderful staff, high end technology, and is the type of dentist that you can call on the weekend if you have a problem and he will help you out. Great with people of all ages from kids to seniors. At least try him out once I promise you will continue to go back.
