Marx Family Dental was founded by Dr. Robert Gerard Marx, known as Bob to his colleagues and Jerry to his family. Dr. Marx was an accomplished dentist, family man and beloved member of the local community.
Born October 30th, 1949 in Kansas City, the Marx family later moved to Northland, where he studied and graduated from Oak Park High School, a member of the 2nd graduating class in 1967. He later received a B.S. in Biology from University of Missouri Kansas City in 1971.
From 1972 to 1978, he served in the Army National Guard. In 1977 he graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry and opened his first dental practice in the Northland in Antioch Shopping Center. Then, in 1985, he opened Marx Family Dental on Broadway in Gladstone, MO.
Alongside dentistry, Dr. Marx was an avid musician, having started and toured with his band, Harbour. They played across the Midwest, attaining impressive gigs including the house band at One Block West, USO, Arrowhead Stadium, Knuckleheads, and Worlds of Fun.
He married his wife, Terri, in 1980, and they became proud parents of two children, Neil and Emily. Both children inherited his creative talent and skills, with Neil becoming a web designer and Emily joining the dental profession and later becoming an essential partner of Marx Family Dental.
As a gentle and caring family man, Dr. Marx was always active in his childrens lives. Whether it was building forts, playing in the snow together or being a pillar of support and advice, he was always there for his kids. Later, he was given three grandchildren who brought him neverending joy, and the chance to extend his playful and supportive attitude to the youngest members of his growing family.
His altruistic approach to dentistry extended to his philanthropic work among the underserved children in the Northland community. In 1988, after recognizing their growing need for dental care, he established a special day known as Have a Heart Day, where he provided free cleanings and crucial treatments to these children. He helped thousands of children have good oral health over the past 33 years.
Dr. Marx was known and loved for his kind, caring and welcoming approach to all those around him, especially his patients and colleagues. In 2014, he was proud to welcome his daughter, Dr. Emily Marx to the practice as an essential partner.
