I have had the honor to work in the field of orthodontics for more than 30 years, providing my friends and neighbors in my community with great smiles. From my humble beginnings with one office, I am proud to have expanded my practice to four offices around the Rio Grande Valley to better serve the surrounding communities. I strive to provide my patients with the most comfortable and efficient treatment possible with kindness, integrity, and respect.

I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Specialty in Orthodontics degrees from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. In order to keep up with the newest and best orthodontics has to offer, I continue my education yearly through courses and seminars, ensuring that my patients receive the best care possible.

I am an orthodontist who places importance on community, and I have a history of giving my time, energy, and resources to organizations that extend beyond orthodontic care. I am a Partner in Excellence to elementary schools and sponsor students who attend the National Hispanic Institute. I am a member of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and have served as a board member for several local organizations. I also participate in Dentists Who Care and was recently recognized as a Top Contributor to the organization. All of this comes naturally to me because Im not just your orthodontist; Im your friend and neighbor, too.

After work, I retreat to my man cave to pick up 60lb dumbbells in order to consistently prove I am still the strongest man in the office. I enjoy spending spare time traveling with my family to various hiking trails in the Rockies of Colorado, cruises to the Caribbean islands for fun in the sun, and road trips to the various casinos outside of Las Vegas for a real gambling experience. I am passionate about living life to the fullest, and learning from past experiences. As a Christian, I attend Bible Study weekly, pray before every meal, and start every occasion asking myself, What would Jesus do?

I love helping others improve their lives by improving the health of their mouth and smile. I spend a lot of time educating patients about their oral health and how to maintain it. When a person invests time into orthodontic care, they should be able to enjoy their beautiful smile for the rest of their life. By teaching someone how to properly care for their mouth, I ensure they keep that beautiful smile.

I enjoy relating to and living vicariously through my patients. Its wonderful to share in their stories of academic recognition, athletic achievements, and their experiences and passions. Those conversations create a friendship, and I treasure those connections.

Its truly a joy to watch each of my patients personalities unfold, and their character develop, as they move through treatment. Everyone becomes more confident and outgoing, smiling and comfortable with themselves. Watching that finished smile walk out of the office, after our final visit, is personally and professionally rewarding.

However, orthodontics is a constantly evolving field. New technologies and techniques, as well as materials, improve the care experience and deliver even stronger results. My patients trust me to provide them with the most effective and efficient orthodontic treatment. By actively pursuing continuing education, through conferences, lectures, and seminars, I strive to exceed my patients expectations.

I was born and raised here in the Rio Grande Valley, in McAllen. Dr. Joel Martinez is my father; my mother is named Norma, and I have three siblings: Christopher, Michael, and Mathew. Christopher works in the practice with my father and me. Michael is a musician in three bands and Matthew is currently studying audio production.

I enjoy spending my evenings at the gym, watching movies, or being with family and friends. On weekends I like playing tennis, swimming, cycling, and enjoying the sun out on the island. My passion in life, outside of family and my patients, are cats. Since I was three years old, Ive been owned by the neighborhood strays and I still love fostering kittens, much to the chagrin of my mother's allergies.

I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine, which provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. I earned my orthodontic certificate from the International Association for Orthodontics.

Now, as a practicing orthodontist, attending continuing education seminars informs me of the latest technological advances in methodologies and materials used when treating patients. It grants me the opportunity to listen to lectures discussing the latest evidence-based dentistry and demonstrate highly effective techniques in delivering treatment. Actively participating in CE throughout a career helps me ensure integrity and a quality result above the standard of care for my patient.

I am a dentist who places importance on community and family. My family and I have a history of giving our time, energy and resources to organizations that extend beyond dental and orthodontic care. I am a Partner in Excellence to elementary schools and sponsor students who have desires of going to dental school or pursuing higher education.

I live in McAllen, TX, with my wife Gigi and our three children: Christian Andres, Isabella Sofia, and Natalia Andrea Martinez. I enjoy spending my free time with my three young children and especially my wife. We enjoy outings to community events, cooking, and traveling together. It is also not unusual to find me listening to and even playing music. My passion in life is to constantly challenge myself to become a better clinician, husband, and father through practice.
