We also want to create an atmosphere at Martin Dentistry where you and your family will feel comfortable and confident that you are in excellent care. Our approach to treatment is conservative, but our approach to prevention is progressive. Our dental team wants to help you maintain your teeth in their natural state as long as possible. Hopefully, in addition to a good home care regimen, we can help you keep your youthful, natural smile for a lifetime!
I was born in Minneapolis and graduated from Saint Louis Park High School. I have had a long term commitment to the Boy Scouts, having spent summers working at a scout camp in Northern Minnesota. That commitment has lead to support of that camp and years spent as a dentistry merit badge counselor. While at that camp, I met and later married the camp nurse. Together, we have one daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren. Together we enjoy the outdoors, fishing, photography, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, traveling and time with friends and family.
I studied at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and later a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the School of Dentistry. I have been privileged to continue a connection to the U of M Dental School as a part time adjunct faculty member, working with senior dental students from the U of M at the Union Gospel Missions dental clinic.
Through this connection to the School of Dentistry, and on going continuing education classes, I have been able to keep abreast of the changes and advances in dentistry. It is a commitment of not only myself, but also the staff to learn the newest and best forms of patient care.
My work experience includes kitchen work, Boy Scout camp staff, automobile service, house painting and a short time of being a full sized ice cream cone for a Dairy Queen. I began practicing dentistry on Payne Avenue on Saint Pauls East side in a practice started there in 1922. I also practiced in Northeast Minneapolis, 4 blocks from where my grandfather practiced dentistry starting in 1914. (He would later join my father in a dental practice downtown Minneapolis in 1937). In 1997 I moved the office to its present location in Woodbury. It was not only a great pleasure but also very flattering that so many St Paul patients moved along to the Woodbury office!
I feel the practice is one where the patient comes first, being treated as we, the staff, would want to be treated. We do this in a pleasant atmosphere where the patient is comfortable and in control. We treat PEOPLE, not teeth, being aware that not everyones needs and expectations are the same. I am proud of the staff for the positive, and generally fun, atmosphere in which we work. The patients and staff are unanimous in the feeling that my jokes are lacking!
I am proud of the staff for their commitment to give back to the profession through such efforts as the annual Give Kids a Smile, Mission of Mercy and other dental volunteer activities. I look forward to years of continued professional growth.
Michelle joined the team in 2002. She is a licensed dental assistant. She holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Dental Assisting from Century College Michelle chose dentistry because she likes helping people with their smiles. She also loves trying out and learning about new technology in the dental field. She works the morning with us as she grabs her kids after school.
Outside of work, Michelle has two sons, two dog and three cats. Some of her hobbies include volleyball, softball and golf. Whats one thing you may not know about Michelle? Her long term goal is to visit as many baseball stadiums as possible.
Colleen has been a member of our team since 1997. She has a dental hygienist degree from the University of Minnesota. Colleen has had a strong connection to dentistry ever since she was a child. She even had a dental assistant job while in high school. Colleen decided to pursue a career in dentistry for a more one-on-one experience with patients. She loves dentistry because she gets to know patients as people and friends.
Molly, a registered Dental Hygienist, has been part of the Martin Dentistry team since 2003. From early on, Molly wanted to become a dentist. She chose the path of a dental hygienist instead because of the flexibility it offered for her children. Molly loves working with people and helping them have a positive dental experience.
Becki, a registered Dental Hygienist, has been part of the Martin Dentistry team since 2018. Becki has been in the dental field since 2000, when she started as a dental assistant. She fell more in love with the one on one time with patients, that she went back to school. She got her Dental Hygiene license in 2004 and has been loving it ever since.
Amy joined the team in March of 2018. Come to find out, Michelle and Amy, graduated Dental Assisting together in 2002! Amy has been in the dental field since 1999 working as a front office filer in high school. As the office administrator, Amy brings years of dental insurance knowledge and experience in handling claims. She enjoys solving the small and large problems that the dental field brings. She enjoys building relationships with patients and their families which often last for years. She loves getting to know the long standing patients that Dr. Martin has maintained over the years.
Amy is engaged, and is getting married in August on her parents 40th wedding anniversary. She enjoys working part time at lifetime, spending time with family and spending time with her best friend as her 2 boys she calls her kids.

Dr. Martin is a phenomenal dentist. He is very kind, friendly, and personable. However, with the experience we had with one of the front desk employees, Heidi, we will not be returning. My daughter and I were both seen here a few times about 6 months ago and was called three days prior to our next appointments to let us know they've been cancelled due to an insurance issue. I called my insurance company and confirmed the office was covered and everything should be good to go. My insurance company went out of their way to give Heidi a call back to ensure everything was OK and was told my claims were being denied. My agent tried to confirm my member ID (which they were not inputting the correct one when trying to file the claims) and Heidi told her she was spending too much time on this issue and doing too much on it and would NOT re-run the CORRECT member ID for the claims and washed her hands of it. They were trying to input my daughter's ID rather than mine. I am so disappointed with this experience as this all could have been handled if the CORRECT member ID was entered, and if she would have just tried to resend the claim one more time. This is someone's health that just seemed to be an inconvenience to Heidi, and it is extremely unsettling and quite honestly frustrating to have had to deal with.

By far the best dentist and staff around! I have been a patient of Dr Martin since the mid 70's when he was on the East Side of St Paul. I currently drive 45 minutes one way to see him. He's a great DDS and a great guy!! His jokes, well you'll have to decide The staff are all awesome, nice, friendly people who care about you. Don't hesitate to set an appointment.

New to Woodbury, I searched for a dentist and saw a ton of stellar recommendations on 'NextDoor' leading me to Martin Dentistry. Extremely pleased with this Dr. Martin and staff (Heidi is amazing) as well as his hygienist and assistant. Cannot recommend high enough.

The billing folks at Martin Dentistry managed to submit the insurance claim to the wrong Blue Cross/Delta Dental plan. This is the second time that they submitted the claim to the wrong insurance carrier. So far they are batting 0 for 2. I'm a bit concerned that they may be shooting for the trifecta of incompetence. A word to the billing folks at Martin Dentistry - You have all the insurance information you need. Call me and I'll send you a photocopy of the insurance card if you lost my insurance information.....And then submit to the correct insurance carrier - It's really very simple. 7/21/2022 Update. The insurance claim has now been incorrectly submitted a third time! I called the Dental Insurance carrier and they say that they were never contact by Martin Dentistry for this claim! So, even though I provided Martin Dentistry with my insurance card information (front and back of card), and they had the dental insurance coverage information prior to the appointment on April 19, It is now 3 months later and they still can't get it right. HOW MANY more failed attempts will it take for Martin Dentistry to submit the claim to the correct carrier? 7/29/22 Update: Thank God! Over a 3 1/2 month period the billing folks at Martin Dentistry submitted the insurance claim to the wrong address even though they had the insurance information from my card prior to the appointment 3 1/2 months ago. They finally got it right on try number 4! Dealing with this practice is an ordeal to put it mildly. If you value your time and sanity I would avoid them.

As a long time patient I feel that Dr. Martin is an excellent dentist. Unfortunately, due to the rudeness of his receptionist and cancellation of appointments without notification my family has been forced to look elsewhere for dental care.

Absolutely the best dentist and staff around! I used to fear having dental work done until I started going here. Dr Martin is very personable and has a great gift of easing any worries a person may have. He also has a fantastic sense of humor! I would definitely recommend Dr Martin!

I've had nothing but great experiences with Dr. Martin and his staff. They are great at listening to your needs and coming up with a wonderful plan to accomplish what is needed. I recommend them 10 times over and will continue going there for all my future appointments!
