The Marshall University School of Medicine was established in the 1970s through federal legislation, known as the Teague-Cranston Act, that authorized the creation of five new medical schools in conjunction with existing VA hospitals. The West Virginia Legislature appropriated funding for the school in 1975. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education granted provisional accreditation in 1977, and the first class entered in January 1978.

From the 1980s through the early 1990s, the medical school greatly increased the scope and depth of its clinical services. Initially, outpatient care was provided by medical school faculty physicians through the Family Care Outpatient Center, which was located in the former C&O Hospital on Sixth Avenue in Huntington. The family care center evolved into John Marshall Medical Services, Inc., and was later renamed University Physicians & Surgeons, Inc.,in 1994.

By the mid-1990s, the need for new and expanded clinical space became clear. Beginning in 1998, Marshall opened three new multi-million dollar outpatient health care facilitiesMarshall University Medical Center,Erma Ora Byrd Clinical CenterandEdwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Today, the highly-qualified health care providers of Marshall Universitys Joan C. PSA: if you call numerous times to reschedule your appointment the day before and nobody answers (because they never do), and you leave a message with your information and reasoning of rescheduling... you'll be marked as a ncns the next day. But numerous times my appointment has been rescheduled by them without telling me. Find somewhere with better service.

This facility doesn't deserve the one star that I'm required to give them to leave a review. Save yourself and kids the time and potential pain and go to another facility. The front desk receptionist, Ashley, and her bad and uncaring attitude are making this facility loose long time patients. Scheduling the patient a month out to fix a toddlers broken filling that was put in only a few weeks ago is unacceptable, especially considering half the tooth is missing and the patient is in pain. Again, save yourself some time and have your dental work performed by a D.S., not a resident.

I have tried since April 6th to have a tooth that lost its crown removed. Was given an estimate that I signed and have the copy. Was told they would call with an appointment with the surgeon. Even though I have called repeatedly they give one excuse after another and tell me they will call me back. The last time I called they said there was no estimate on file yet I have the copy! It is now October and I have heard nothing. I DO NOT recommend Marshall Dentistry and will be taking this to the attention of higher ups.

I waited over a month for an appointment. Over a week before my appointment is scheduled, they call me to confirm my availability for the appointment. This was on the day of a family member's funeral so I was not able to answer or respond by EOD so they gave my appointment away to someone else. Now I have to wait almost another 2 months for an appointment

The extraction of my wisdom tooth went great. All staff was polite and helpful. The extraction site is still inflamed with pinneedle pain in it I've taken ibuprofen but I really think I need amoxicillin. Other than that they deserve a five star because of professionalism, kindness, and very caring. I will go there for any dental care I need.

Changes appointment days every time I schedule. Two and half hour drive for me. Scheduling is very rude! Tons of problems with trying to get my temporary cap on my tooth. Broke and they hurt my gums so bad. I don't even think I'll go back for my permanent cap.

Went in to have a tooth filled and had a student grind 1/4 of a tooth off, changing my bite. Took her nearly 2 hours, leaving my jaw sore for a week. She ran in and out of the room frantically, asking questions about what she was doing. The dental assistant told me halfway through that I was being given a "parking lot guarantee." Meaning they couldn't guarantee my tooth wasn't going to break off. Very unprofessional and rude. I'd give zero stars if it were an option. Wouldn't recommend for even a simple fix.

This place has really gone downhill. They had me under two different accounts which caused me to lose my regular dentist. I had cavities causing me some pain and it took them two months to see me then couldn't do the procedure ( had to reschedule) after I got up and drove all the way there. After waiting two months now I gotta wait two more !! Poor customer service!!! No compassion!! Bad business.

They will no longer allow a guardian to go back with a child, and according to the staff, they no longer need your consent to perform any kind of dental work on said child. I don't know what changed, because they always let a guardian go back with the child even up until my daughter's cleaning in December.

While Dr Khanna and the techs are GREAT, the office staff leave a lot to be desired. This is March 1, 2021 and I'm STILL waiting on a private overpayment I made to them in JULY 2020!! Every time I call it's the same old runaround. "We'll put you on the list"... "Refunds are from an outside company and they are short staffed due to COVID" (for an entire year??)..and, "Yes, looks like the check is ready to go out" (That was told to me NOVEMBER 2020 and I still haven't received anything)

I've always been afraid of the dentist, but these dentists are gentle and understanding. I've hated my teeth my entire life but now I love my smile and I look forward to going to the dentist!!!

Went for a dental exam on 5/13/21 Asked for a treatment plan after cleaning, xrays, examination. (Details of my problem areas and suggested work to be done) Walked out empty handed. Called two weeks later asking for a copy of treatment plan to be mailed to me. They promised it would be sent out. Two weeks later still no copy of my problem areas or work I needed done. I call back 6/11/21 asking why I still have not received any details about my exam. Spoke to the office manager, she said they just failed to send the treatment plan out. She promised to type everything out on a letter head and send it to me. Its 6/16/21 still no mail. Why couldnt I have received a copy when my exam was done on 5/13/21? Its been a month and I have been begging for a copy ever since lol. Like its giving very much Twilight Zone. This has not been a positive experience for me. I am very hesitant to ever go back to them. Do they just pick and choose who to give information about their own teeth? Do you have to look a certain way just to receive a treatment plan? Lol I may never know :) I pay for my insurance just like everyone else. All Im asking for is a copy of all my problem areas and work needed. Come on yall do better. Will be calling tomorrow.

I went for an extraction and they broke my tooth off down in the gum. I was left in the room for a good 25 minutes bleeding while they went to get Dr Khanna. Ended up having to have surgery to get it out. Went home 3 days later the swelling started to go down and low and behold there is still part of my tooth and root still intact sticking out of my gum. I am in the process of trying to get a hold of someone to make yet another appointment to have it fully extracted.

This place is an absolute joke with nothing but lazy, unorganized office staff and ridiculously unprofessional doctors. The first appointment ended without any result. The dentist who saw me said that he "didn't know if I was healthy enough for oral surgery," but failed to give any specific reasons why. I have had oral surgery in the past, and it wasn't that long ago; things went fine. Instead of scheduling me an appointment for the surgery(which will take a couple months at least anyway), he said that they'd "give me a call." So that was it. No real answers, just more questions, and bigger headaches. Not only that, but Marshall Dentistry is in my medical network, and they have all of my patient records there to read. It took nearly a month of calling EVERY MORNING to get a return call back, and then they scheduled me for a second consultation. I don't know why I needed a second consultation, and they couldn't tell me either. After waiting over an hour past my appointment time in a packed waiting room, I had to eventually leave because I had other things to do. When I told the receptionist that I needed to reschedule this appointment, she asked me why I had two consultations. I told her that I didn't know, and nobody else knew either, so she just shrugged and said "we'll call you to schedule your extraction." One week went by, and I started calling them daily. Again. One receptionist even said "every time somebody calls, we leave a Post-It note on the doctor's computer screen to have him call you. His screen is filled with Post-It notes." Well, don't you think that should be a clue? Two weeks went by, then three, then four. Still no response. Eventually it got to literally 2 and a half months of waiting *JUST* to get scheduled for the extraction, which will be another few months wait. They still haven't called me. Go to Murphy R Scott for your extractions. This place is a pathetic joke. If I could, I'd give it 0 stars, because that's how much service they offered me. Zero.
