On your first visit with us, we will begin by listening to your dental concerns and attempt to answer all of your questions thoroughly. We will gather information about your overall health. It is important for us to know what medical conditions you may have and any prescriptions and over-the-counter medications you are taking. Although they may seem to be unrelated to your mouth, medical conditions and medications may have an effect on your dental health.
Prior to beginning your oral examination, we will take appropriate x-rays to assist us in checking your teeth. Next, we will provide a comprehensive examination, where we will look at much more than just your teeth. We will check other areas inside and outside of your mouth for signs of disease or other problems. This is known as an oral cancer screening exam. We will check your occlusion, or how well your teeth fit together by examining your bite, and do a clinical examination of the teeth using the x-rays we took to aid us. This will involve checking your fillings, permanent crowns, bridges, or other restorations to make sure they are intact as well as checking all surfaces of the teeth to make sure there is no decay present. Finally, we will do a periodontal examination where we check your gums and supporting structures of the teeth.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are designed so that when you receive care, its both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep you and our staff safe.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies recommendations.
Infection control has always been a top priority in our office. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, infection control guidelines have been enhanced. Our office is following the new infection control guidelines set forth by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

I am so glad I found Dr. Backhus and his team. This is the best dentist I have ever had. They are super nice and Friendly and always make sure you are comfortable. The office is super clean and professional. Most of all they are clear and straightforward with you about what dental services you may need. I really appreciate them and no longer dread visiting the dentist.

The dentist and his staff are kind, but dishonesty is a big deal for me. He told me I needed a deep cleaning in all four quadrants without doing a detailed examination, but I couldn't afford it and went somewhere else and it turns out that I didn't need any deep cleanings.

Have you seen your dentist lately? I'd been putting off going for a few years and what do you know I had an inlay come off. As I'm sure you're aware dentistry has gone the way of high tech and more clinic type care where they want to sell you a "plan"... l don't need a plan, I need dental care. Okay, so my boss refers me to his dentist. Mind you cost isn't the major issue here. I have a giant whole in my tooth I use to eat food with so I go in not expecting anything and come out with one the most amazing experiences ever From Dorilyn to Dr Backhus and his assistant Stephanie, I was treated like I've been a patient for 20 years. Everything was text book perfect and didn't have to increase my credit limit. Thank you again all for your friendliness and professionalism Dr Backhus and staff!!I'll be back soon for exam and checkup.

BEST dentist practice in all of Sacramento, without question. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, accommodating and very professional. They are so amazing at what they do. They are good enough that even if I moved away I would come back to stay a customer here.

I've been going to this Dentist for over 10 years. Great quality and friendly doctors. I like going to this dentist because they do not try to sell unnecessary procedures. They also encourage maintenance and minimum procedure so you get to keep your original teeth/enamel.

Ive been going there for the last 4yrs Great Staff,polite,considerate,Dr is Awesome Only Down side is I am allergic to Dogs,And i hope they make other patients extend common courtesy to people with Allergies,By NOT Bringing their Pets with them unless they Are Verified service Animals,I Love Animals,was RAISED in my younger years with a German shepherd and two poodles,Dont know what happened But i am SEVERLY ALLERGIC TO DOGS,CATS DANDER PLEASE MAKE OTHER PATIENTS BE MINDFUL OF US THAT ARE ALLERGIC,IVE BEEN COUGHING,ITCHY EYES AND THROAT,AND SKIN SINCE I LEFT The office this MORNING waiting on an called in script of Benedryl THANK YOU!

The entire staff at Dr. Backhus's office is friendly, sincere, and very professional. I've been to several different dentists (with a large amount of dental work done) and no dentist has catered to me like Dr. Backhus. He has an eye for perfection when it comes to larger, more difficult, fillings and crowns. Other dentists that I've been to don't stack up to the quality of work that Dr. Backhus and his team deliver. He is also concerned with doing things the right way, not the "in and out in 10 minutes" philosophy. The endodontists that he refers me to are also as professional as he is. You cannot beat the quality of dental care that Dr. Backhus offers.

Every time I have been here the dentist was nice but their billing practices are questionable. I pay my part of the bill but they add charges before submitting to insurance for payment. They also added an "Emergency Visit" charge for a same-day appointment and did not say anything about that. Just added it when billing insurance. That wasn't on what I signed, but it's now on my credit report because insurance refused to pay it as did I because I was not informed there would be an extra charge for a same day appointment. She didn't even act as though it was an issue to come in on the samecday, so I wasn't even aware that something MIGHT happen like that.

I've been a patient of Dr. Backhus for over 10 years. They are both great dentist and I love his entire staff. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
