LANAP is a gentle, conservative, non-invasive method of treating gum disease without cutting, suturing or removing tissue. Using a precision laser, Dr.Mellman is able to kill up to 99% of the disease causing bacteria in the periodontal pockets. Because there is no defense against the laser, the bacteriacannot adapt and avoid elimination as with antibiotic treatment.
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. In its advanced stages, the gums can become red and tender. They can also bleed when you brush your teeth. Many people also experience bad breath and an unpleasant taste.
Unchecked, periodontal disease becomes much more serious and deep pockets of bacteria develop. This bacteria eats away at the jawbone which supports your teeth. Periodontal bacteria alsoenter the blood stream and contribute to many other medical problems (including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, respiratory diseases, premature and underweight births, and more). Without treatment, the periodontal pockets deepen, resulting in tooth loss.
The purpose of periodontal treatment is to remove periodontal bacteriafrom the periodontal tissues and allow the area to heal. In its initial stages, periodontaldisease may be treated with scaling and root planing (deep cleaning). In its more moderate/advanced stages, surgerymay be necessary, involving cutting away some of the gum tissue, reshaping the bone and/or bone grafting (ie. surgery with sutures).
Dr.Mellman now offers Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). LANAP is a progressive technique utilizing a specialized laser to destroy the disease causing bacteria. This treatment has been shown to regenerate bone, root surface, and periodontal ligament. The use of the laser is less invasive than traditional scapel surgery and results in much faster and less painful recovery.

This was my second experience with Dr Mellman. The first experience was a mere 11 years ago! A Little Background. I've had very little trouble with my teeth, thanks to my genes and my oral hygiene. My regular dentist? All he gets to do to me is a prophylactic treatment twice a year. That translates into a little housekeeping and cleaning of my choppers. I've always felt fortunate. That I've never had a cavity. I guess I'd say I'm enamored with my enamel, thanks to my kith and kin. (What'd he say?) The First Visit. I had a pocket area in a part of my gums that wasn't any huge concern, but I wanted it gone, so my dentist instantly referred me to Dr Mellman. From the beginning, I felt very comfortable with the doctor and his staff. I was seeing a man who was precisely dedicated to 'doing things right' and was extremely learned. Dr Mellman has excellent 'chairside manner', too. A real plus! The Second Visit. Fast forward those 11 years, and I find myself with a similar pocket in a gum. Much different than gum in your pocket.. Or, is it? LOL Without batting an eye, I knew who I was gonna call. Ain't gonna be Ghostbusters. After all those years. It was like I was walking back in time. The staff remembered me, which is really awesome OR what'd I do this time? LOL It was business as usual once I sat in that chair, peppered with an enormous amount of good will, laughs and admiration. In a nutshell. Everything went smoother than smooth! I can attest to having had a micro-mini negligible nanosecond of discomfort. The procedure was quite tedious for the doc and his able assistant. But they never missed a beat and I'm so glad! 6 Weeks Later. I'm good to go! I've got a squeaky-clean dental machine!

I saw Dr. Mellman for three gum grafts on two separate occasions recently. I had two grafts done by another periodontist about 15 years ago and it was a horrible experience, so I was dreading going through it again. But my experience with Dr. Mellman could not have been more different. He is extremely patient, thorough, and an expert in his field. The entire process was virtually painless and I am very happy with the results.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mellman and his entire staff. I went there after a terrible experience at another dentist and not only did he take care of my issue, his office seems to defy the entire healthcare experience we've unfortunately gotten accustomed to. Fast, easy on scheduling and billing and just all around uncomplicated. Not to mention the great bed side manner. Thank you!

Dr. Mellman and his staff are wonderful and I highly recommend them. Everyone is polite, respectful and professional. I have had two surgeries done with them and they did a great job both times. I really appreciate that Dr Mellman called me in the evening after both surgeries to check in on how I was doing. I also appreciated that they worked with my insurance and ensured that I had an estimate ahead of time (not every doctor's office will call on your behalf). My insurance was being difficult to work with prior to the first surgery, but Vicky kept calling them and sorted everything out. Ann assisted Dr. Mellman with my surgeries and she was attentive and great. My second surgery was during COVID-19 and I felt safe going there.

Dr. Mellman is the real deal. I've never had someone in the dental realm make me feel so at ease and in truly capable hands. I was referred to him through my dentist due to a severe gum recession. He was able to fix my recession with a gum graft using the utmost care and expertise. He took the time to explain exactly what was going to happen and to ensure that I understood and was as informed as possible about the procedure. If I could do all my dental work through Mellman, I wouldn't think twice!
