I would like to think that dentistry chose me at the age of 19. Starting out as a dental assistant in 1996 to now a hygienist in Advanced practice. I graduated from one of the top Hygiene programs in California in 2015 with highest honors. I then returned to school in 2017 to The University of the Pacific, San Francisco where I received a certificate in specialized training for patients with special needs. I can honestly say that I love all aspects of dentistry! I have been given a wonderful opportunity to work alongside Dr. Mark Ashiku and his exceptional staff. My main goal is to provide the best treatment possible for all of our patients by customizing the right treatment for each individual. Dr. Mark is a highly skilled dental professional who puts his patients first, taking pride in the treatment he provides. I truly am lucky to work alongside a great team that creates a positive work environment and atmosphere.
I have lived most of my adult life in Northern California with my husband and son, who is now in another state attending college. On my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my dog, Porscha the Rottweiler. I love trying new restaurants and foods. I recently started trying new recipes so when you come see me, please share your recipes with me.
Hello my name is Erika and I have been working for Dr. Mark Ashku since 2003. I became interested in dentistry by a blind ad, Seeking Dental Assistant, will train it had my attention! I thought how fun and interesting. My personal dental experience was limited to a few cleanings and a couple sealants. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and quickly realized I had a lot to learn! Everything was new and foreign to me yet I had a desire to learn and understand the meaning of dentistry. Dr. Mark is an excellent teacher and was able to bring meaning to all aspect of helping folks regain a healthy mouth. I challenged myself weekly to master all tasks and commit to memory the myriad of materials that are needed for the various procedures, from a simple Composite filling (the tooth-colored kind) to a complex Implant surgery. I took several weekend classes that included Certification in Radiology, Coronal Polish, and making temporary crowns all the requirements I needed to take the State Board Exam for becoming a Registered Dental Assistant. After 1 year of on-the-job experience, I was qualified to challenge the State Board Exam! Since then, I have taken many courses of Continuing Education and have obtained a Pit and Fissure Sealant License, and most recently the Orthodontic Assistant Permit. I really cant believe I have been working for going on 18 years now, it has flown by. It is a challenging job but I think that those are often times the most rewarding. Dr. Mark applies his 39 years of dental knowledge and combines it with new techniques, materials, and technology to provide adaptive treatment for his patients. I find it tremendously rewarding to be part of that kind of care and team that truly makes a difference in the lives of each and every one of our valued patients. Even after all this time I look forward to the next day!
