Dr Laura has received advanced education in lasers, digital dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, study of the bite, worn teeth, implants, implant supported dentures, communication, periodontal disease, and esthetic fillings. She is also a certified life coach and teaches other dentists how to achieve their own goals. She has a podcast for dentists on iTunes.
Dr. Laura had two daughters when she started dental school: Sally was 4 and Emma was 2. During her sophomore year of dental school, she had her son, Max. The kids were just 8, 6 and 3 when she graduated. Everybody has really changed!
Dr. Erica Recker, Marion dentist grew up on a farm outside of Oelwein, Iowa and was the valedictorian of the Oelwein High School Class of 2009. She received a BS degree with Distinction in Integrative Physiology from The University of Iowa in 2013 and continued her education at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics, where she received her DDS with research honors in2018.
Throughout her dental school career, she co-authored nine publications featured in prestigious dental journals. She held leadership roles in several student organizations, and she even won the dental school talent show with her vocal parody of Phantom of the Opera, entitled Phantom of the Operatory during her secondyear.
Dr. Erica puts her research expertise to use by staying up-to-date with the latest and greatest dental materials, technologies, and treatment options. Dr. Erica especially enjoys restorative dentistry, oral surgery, and seeing children. She is a member of the Iowa Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Academy of GeneralDentistry.
Dr. Erica prides herself on providing compassionate and patient-centered comprehensive dental care. Each smile is unique, and she strives to positively transform patients lives by restoring function, esthetics, and overall oral health. Heather graduated in 2009 from Kirkwood Community College with a dental hygiene degree and certification in local anesthetic. She grew up in Belle Plaine, Iowa and moved to the area after completing school at Cornell College in Mt Vernon.
Erika graduated from Kirkwood August of 2014 with her degree in Dental Assisting. She has been with Marion Dental, Marion dental office since April 2015 and just received her Expanded Function certificate. She was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and is the oldest of 4 children. Erika enjoys traveling any chance she gets. Some of her favorite hobbies include snorkeling and cooking. She enjoys camping with her family and her fianc, Sean, and being outside as much as possible especially with her dogMac!
Laura Lynn graduated with her Associate Degree in Dental Assisting from Kirkwood Community College in the summer of 2012. She has been with Marion Dental since graduating and has continued her education with becoming Expanded Functions certified and training in CAD/CAM technology. Laura Lynn was raised in the middle of five children in the small town of Farley in Northeast Iowa. In her free time, Laura Lynn enjoys spending time with her daughter, Brianna, and son, Jackson. She also spends a lot of her spare time in Northeast Iowa with family, riding her horses, camping, canoeingor pretty much anythingoutdoors!
Carly joined the team at Marion Dental in February of 2018. She graduated from Hawkeye Community College in 2013 with her associates degree in Dental Hygiene with a local anesthetic certification. Since then, she has also completed a PerioLase course to be laser-certified! Originally from the small town of Jesup, Carly, her husband Justin, and their labrador, Wapsi, now reside in Solon. Outside of the office, you can find her cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, traveling, and enjoying all the things the corridor has to offer! Carlys passion for patient care exemplifies what Marion Dental is all about. From providing treatment to insurance questions or anything in between, shes sure to have the answers youre looking for. Carly looks forward to providing you quality dental care!
Laurel originally joined Marion Dental in 2006 as a Dental Assistant. Since then, Laurel went back to school and received her associates degree in Dental Hygiene with local anesthetic certification, graduating in 2010 from Kirkwood Community College. She also holds certifications in both laser therapy and sleep medicine! Her wide array of experience in the dental field makes her an excellent person to help you find an answer to a dental question, work out details of your treatment plan, or provide you with financial arrangements. Laurel was born and raised here in the Cedar Rapids area and graduated from Washington High School. Outside of the office, you can find her running a kiddo to practice or dance class. When shes not taking the kids to their extracurricular activities, she loves traveling, concerts, and being outdoors! Laurel looks forward to helping you fulfill your dentalgoals!
Jessica joined our team in March of 2019. She earned her certification as Dental Assistant in 2000 at Kirkwood Community College and has transitioned back into the dental community after raising her two boys.
Carrie joined the team in August of 2020. Along with her husband, she moved down from Canada to work at Rockwell Collins in 1999. She was a stay at home Mom for many years raising 6 kids. Carrie has an office assistant background and is excited to help every patient become comfortable with our team and the amazing dental work we provide. If you have questions about scheduling, insurance, financing, or any other aspect of treatment, she can help you get the answers you need.
A Michigan native, Melissa planted her Iowa roots in 2007 (Go Blue)! Melissa graduated from the dental assisting program at Hawkeye Community College in 2013. She started her dental assisting career in Periodontics and learned a lot in the surgery realm. She then moved to general dentistry, where she has been assisting since 2015. She continued her education to become an expanded functional dental assistant, and she has also completed her nitrous oxide certification.
Melissa enjoys being a dental assistant and seeing patients become less fearful and more excited about their visits. She also loves witnessing the transformative powers of dentistry and making a difference for our patients. She and her husband, Austin, have a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier named Bailey (her fur child) and plenty of nieces and nephews to keep them very busy. Together, Melissa and Austin like to kayak, garden, and enjoy the great outdoors!

Since this dentist no longer accepts insurance, we decided to make a change. My husband was also concerned of how much dental work she said he needed -- our new dentist said he doesn't need all of that. Just concerning when you also need to pay for it up front. I understand that doing the behind the scenes work on insurance payments can be difficult but it's part of it. My appointments were moved around several times due to hygienist staffing shortage I was told. Not the office for us.

I am very pleased with my experience at Marion Dental. My dental emergency was handled quickly and professionally by Dr. Laura and staff. They were totally understanding and caring for my immediate needs even when I interrupted their busy schedule. All Marion Dental associates kept me informed and explained each step necessary for my restoration and repair, all the while keeping my comfort in mind. I went 25 years without going to the dentist because I was terrified. I finally decided to go and had a bad experience at the dentist I went to. I ended up going to Marion Dental after that and they are great! They work with me, knowing how terrified I am with needles and dental work, and they make sure I'm comfortable. After just two visits, I am no longer scared of how my appointment will go because I know it's not going to be bad. They have me on track to get a nice smile and healthy mouth to where I'm not embarrassed to smile anymore.

I had an excellent checkup Oct. 10th. Dr. Laura has been keeping an eye on two molars for quite some time. After my checkup and cleaning she was able to do bioclears on both teeth without an extra appointment. As usual, everyone was friendly and professional.

I used to be very fearful, anxious when I shad to go to dentist. I had terrible experiences as a child & then as a young adult still couldn't shake the awful anxiety. And when I found Dr Laura, I explained to her what I felt walking into the dental office. As time went on, she put my fears to rest. Now I go knowing I have nothing to fear - I have every confidence in her care. I've recommended her to several friends who've expressed fear/anxiety with their dentist. Anyone who goes to Dr Laura is in the very best hands!!

Loved going here but unfortunately will have to find a different provider since they changed their insurance process. They now expect full payment day of service instead of submitting to insurance. That just won't work for a lot of people.

EDIT: I called about my existing appointment and they informed me they no longer accept dental insurance and it's $345. No notice. No "hey let's see if we can get you in before this changes." I had a high opinion of this place but I'm disappointed in the lack of communication, seeing as how not everyone can afford to pay $345 for JUST the appointment with absolutely no notice. As soon as you walk in the door, someone genuinely friendly greets you. The waiting room is very comfortable. I was a little nervous about my two children (you test being 4) going in the back without me. When I was called back to see how they were doing, both girls were having a blast. The staff is wonderful with children. If your child has any hesitation about going to the dentist, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. So thankful to be patients here

They are very friendly and caring about your health with your teeth to prevent heart diseases. They have a great team and do their jobs very well. Dr. Laura is a great and affectionate dentist. Erica also very great dentists as well and carrying person.
