Dr. Abel was born and raised in the Midwest but acquired all of his higher education in the Northeast. He obtained an undergraduate degree from MIT in 1998. Dr. Abel was awarded his dental degree from Harvard in 2003. At Harvard, he was the recipient of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain Award. Dr. Abel then moved to Philadelphia where he earned a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. In June of 2009 he completed Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Abel is a Board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has also earned Fellowship status from the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Abel maintains active dental and medical licenses in New Hampshire and is certified for office administration of deep sedation/general anesthesia.
Dr. Abel is actively involved both in his profession and in the community. He is a past President of the Greater Manchester Dental Society (a regional component of the New Hampshire Dental Society), and he is also a New Hampshire Office Anesthesia Evaluator. Additionally, Dr. Abel is an MIT Educational Counselor and interviews local applicants for the Office of Admissions. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Sue, their two sons Soren and Henry, and their dog Milo.

I was introduced to Mark ( Dr. Abel) to have some tooth extractions prior to heart surgery. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable in his craft. And he has the most engaging personality and " Chairside Manner," ie: he immediately put me at ease and explained my surgery and his method. I admit, I have some serious personal complications when it comes in hospital surgery. He met me in the recovery room,and assured me of the success of the procedure. He even called me personally at my home to check on me and ask how I felt and was genuinely interested in my post surgery well-being, THATS GOING THE EXTRA MILE! I only wish I could give him a10 star rating I also want to send a big thank you to his dental assistant Hanna, who also gave the same level of care and expertise that Mark did. Over all the entire experience start to finish was exemplary! P.S. I traveled over three hours to get this service ,and will go to Dr. Abel if I need dental work again!

A fantastic organization! The front desk staff makes you feel right at home when you walk in the door. Great patient support from the beginning to end of the process. Dr. Able informed me along the way of what was going on and went the extra mile at every stage and called at night to see how I was doing. The best dental care I have ever experienced! I had a wonderful experience with Manchester Oral Surgery (Dr Mark Abel) and his team. I had to have a top molar extracted after damaging it earlier in the year and waiting too long (on my part) to have it taken care of. Dr Abel and his team made me feel comfortable with every step of the procedure from the consultation, to the extraction, and the post-operative care. Highly recommend! I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Abel and all of his staff. As an adult, I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out. I have had absolutely no pain or swelling since the surgery. I know every case is different but I can't help but think that this skilled team had a lot to do with my seamless recovery. A special acknowledgement to Heidi who was so kind pre and post surgery.

And this could not hold truer than for the professional care and personal attention that I receive at Manchester Oral Surgery. I have been a long time patient, for various ailments, and find that my time and investment in oral health has provided me with better quality of life. Many people do not recognize the importance of oral care, and how it can affect so many aspects of achieving optimum health. It is essential, and if neglected, could lead to catastrophic circumstances. The heart and soul of this practice is Dr. Mark Abel. A surgeon with integrity, thoughtfulness, kindness, practicality, honesty, and a calmness that brings comfort when going through a healthcare event that may seem frightful to many. Dr. Abel is paragon in his field. The office staff is top-notch, giving attention to all the other aspects of a professional medical office. You are greeted warmly from the moment you enter the office, and their attention to your every need during surgery is paramount. I needed to have surgery started before my insurance ran out; the staff and Dr Abel made it happen . I am scheduled on a Saturday( yes he does work on Saturdays when necessary). All the effort was to accommodate my needs. Dr Abel and his staff are competent, congenial, and knowledgeable. Unhesitatingly recommend this practice.

I woke up with infected molars new years day. Went to the ER and was put on antibiotics with instructions to get them extracted asap. The next morning (yesterday)the pain was insane and I could barely function. I called around and found this place to be the only one who could do a consult and surgery immediately. The receptionists were so good about calling me back and being helpful. Dr. Hochberg squeezed me in on his lunch break and we made.a.game plan to extract the next day(today). He was very informative. Precise with advise and not pushing anything unneeded. After about an hour I walked out with a mouth full of gauze and no feeling in my mouth lips or tongue. He was very calm. Explained every thing as it happened. Constantly checked if I was ok and not in pain. 1 routine extraction and 2 that required a drill and more extensive work to remove. Despite a severe lifelong dental phobia this team of people really made the experience as pain free. Anxiety free. And timely as humanly possible. A truly 5star/A+ experience in my mind.
