The lot on which the house is built was first purchased by C.C. Huddleston soon after the town of DuPree (Buda) was founded. Ownership of the property passed from Huddleston to George C. Patterson, who later sold it to Stella Cox. It was from Cox that the Porters bought the property that was to be their home for the rest of their lives.
The Porters built the house. They had no children and as their health declined, it was the Gordons who took care of them. Ena Gordon was the daughter of Sallie Ferguson Porter, the builder of the home on Main Street. Willie Porter died in 1944 and the Gordons continued to care for Nora until her death in 1958.
The Burns, Ferguson, and Porter families who are associated with the house were all very early settlers of the Buda area. They all lived and farmed on the south and east side of Buda on land that is often called 'the prairie' and played an active role in the building of the Buda community. The history of these families associated with this home is in the Buda and Science Hall communities.
Carol Evans, DDS, purchased the house in 2000 for the office of Main St. Dental. She is committed to maintaining its historic integrity. Even though the house has undergone restoration and redecoration, its original design remains. It offers a unique comfort for Dr. Evans' patients.
Dr. Evans has lived in the Buda/Austin area since 1989. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Houston in 1986 and attended The University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio, earning her DDS with honors in 1998. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Capital Area Dental Society and the Texas Association of Women Dentists. Dr. Evans has been practicing general/family dentistry including restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry since 1998.
Following her belief in giving back to the community, Dr. Evans. has provided dental needs for Special Olympics participants, has participated in dental mission trips to serve those in need through the Christian Medical and Dental Society, served on the Executive Committee for Miles for Smiles, a volunteer organization providing community services to promote oral health care, and currently participates in an outreach program serving school children in the Austin area.
Dr. Koen, originally from Amarillo, Texas, received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. After practicing for a number of years in New England, he and his wife decided to move back to Texas to be closer to family. Dr. Koen, his wife Sara, and their daughter Willa could not be happier to call Austin, Texas home. After meeting Dr. Carol Evans, Dr. Koen chose to practice here at Main St. Dental because of a shared belief in providing state of the art, relationship-based, comprehensive care that is tailored to fit into the lives and budgets of his patients.
Dr. Koen is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Texas Dental Association, and the Capital Area District Dental Society. Committed to providing the best care possible for his patients, Dr. Koen completes over forty hours of continuing education per year, and has taken postdoctoral courses in prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and is a member of the Seattle Study Club. He is available by cell phone in case of emergency.
Lori Office Manager Lori moved from her hometown of Napa, California to Texas in 2014. She is proud to call Texas and Main St. Dental her new home. Lori has been working in the dental field since 1997 and loves to interact with our patients and make the dental experience as great as possible. She lives in Kyle with her husband, Michael. She enjoys traveling, road trips and photographing her adventures.
Patrice Dental Hygienist Patrice graduated from Del Mar College School of Dental Hygiene in 1991 and has recently moved to San Marcos to be closer to her daughter, Taylor. She loves meeting new people and is enjoying all her new friends and patients at Main St. Dental. Patrice takes patient education and preventative care very seriously. She stays up on the latest information to make our patients more comfortable and healthy. She and her husband, Jerry, enjoy walking their dogs all over San Marcos and anything to do with plants, wildlife and cooking.
Stacy Dental Hygienist Stacy graduated from The University of Texas at Houston Dental School in 1988 and has been a dental hygienist for 21 years. Stacy comes from a family of dentists; her father, grandfather and great aunt were all dentists. For the past ten years Stacy has been an integral part of Dr. Evans team. She resides in San Marcos with her husband, Robert, along with their daughter Paige, and twin sons, Will and Price. Stacy loves being outdoors whether she is on her bike doing triathlons or running the scenic hill country trails. Stacy also loves gourmet cooking and traveling abroad.
Amanda Dental AssistantAmanda joined the Main St. Dental team in 2010. She is one of the dental assistants in the practice. She has lived in Buda, Texas her entire life and enjoys working in her hometown. She and her husband Bo have a son named Brenly. In her spare time she loves to watch her son play select baseball and likes to go camping when she has a free weekend.
Joanna Dental AssistantJoanna has been a dental assistant for 12 years. She joined the Main St. Dental team in 2017. Joanna loves to make her patients feel comfortable and confident in the care she is providing during dental treatment. She is proud to be born and raised in Austin, Texas. In her spare time she enjoys traveling and watching her 2 boys Julian and Eli play baseball.
Kayla Dental HygienistKayla is the newest member to our hygiene team. She brings 3 years of experience in the dental field and is passionate about her work, her patients and providing the highest quality of care. In her spare time Kayla likes to spend time reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

Dental hygienist is great. Staff is a bit condescending and sometimes unhelpful. Tried getting an appointment and got put on hold for 2-3mins. Not the most welcoming place. There are better options out there.

Local doesn't meant ethical, apparently! This is one of those dentists offices that schedule you four months out for an appointment, and then call you 24 hours before your appointment to let you know you're actually not in network or suprise you with their hidden fees. I scheduled an appointment months out for me and my son, and they called shortly before his appointment to let us know that he would not be covered, despite the fact that the health care provider's website said that they were in network and the receptionist stated that they took that provider's PPO insurance when I made the appointment. I asked Main Street Dental to please check to see whether MY health insurance (a different provider) was in network and whether everything would be covered for MY appointment for later that month. They stated that they normally only call right before the appointment. I explained that we didn't want to wait until right before the appointment to find out whether there were hidden fees/out of network issues/etc. They stated they would call and check, and then they actually DID call me back to say yes, my insurance was in network, and everything should be covered. Fast-forward to my appointment! UH-OH! Turns out this place requires panoramic X-rays, which my insurance doesn't cover, so they're just calling right before my appointment to let me know that will be an extra surprise fee! Why couldn't they have checked that when they called about my insurance the first time? HMMM.... Even MORE incredibly, the receptionist stated that they were required BY LAW to take panoramic X-rays. I actually am a lawyer, but I don't think you need to have gone to law school to know that there's NO law requiring people to take panoramic X-rays before receiving dental treatment. Call almost any other dental office in the area and ask. Steer clear of Main Street Dental. There are other new dental offices in the area who would love your business and won't hit you with surprises 24-48 hours before your appointment, after you've already waited 4 months to see a dentist. They also probably won't lie and tell you a medical procedure is required "by law" when it is not.

So happy with the service we received here! Both myself and my two year old daughter got a check up here and, as anyone with a two year old knows, I was terrified of the screaming, kicking and crying we would all have to endure. Thankfully the staff made both of us feel so at ease. My daughter did amazing and her check up went great! My checking involved a bit more work but just like her the staff made me feel comfortable and satisfied! Even when we move again this will be our place!!

I just want to say that Dr. Koen is absolutely the best dentist I have ever been to. I started going to him when his practice was off of Lake Austin Blvd near downtown Austin as it was 5 minutes from my office. When he moved to Buda, I stayed at his old practice with his old partner, huge mistake. I live in Leander and work in downtown Austin and Dr. Koen is worth the drive for his services. He has the best personality, is funny, and makes you feel at ease. His work is second to none and his staff are some of the best as well, you can tell that everyone is happy to be there and make your dental experience the best possible. I never write reviews, but felt I had to share what an amazing dentist and practice Main Street Dental is.

What a great place to have dental work done. The staff goes above and beyond to make me comfortable. Melissa has taken care of me since 2005. I love her, she is thorough and nice. Welcoming at every turn. Dr. Evans has treated me and I always feel my care is her top priority.

My visit was astounding. My hygienist Melissa spent extra time explaining why I was experiencing pain and gave me options to remedy it. I wish I had used Main Street my whole life. Dr. Koen is a good dentist and has excellent techniques.

WOW!! This entire practice is AMAZING! I have been to Dr. Koen several times. He and his staff are the kindest, sweetest, most understanding people in the dental industry I have ever interacted with. My wife found the practice online, tried them out, loved them and then told me to try them because she knows my fear of anything that has to do with the dentist. They have amazing customer service. I wish I could remember each of the dental hygienists who have taken care of me, but I always forget to get their name. Lori handles the front office and insurance stuff...seriously, she KNOWS her stuff and explains things to me so I leave there knowing what is happening. Dr. Koen is the kindest dentist I have EVER had. I hope the Main Street Dental staff reads this because y'all make my experiences with you all so great. Thank you for the friendly voices and smiles. Thank you for the relaxing music that helps calm my nerves. Thank you for keeping me relaxed through my tears and fears. Thank you for playing music in the room so I have something to focus on since I forgot my headphones this last visit. Thank you for taking your time explaining things to me. Thank you for having a once very fearful dental patient feel more relaxed than I have ever been. Thank you, thank you, thank you. P.S.
