Dr. Jen received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Oregon Health Sciences University (DMD). Prior to attending dental school, Dr. Jen worked as a registered dental hygienist. Dr. Jen lives in Rescue with her husband David, their two children Reed and Veronica, and their labradoodle Oscar. In her spare time she competes in triathlons. She is a member of the Ashton Price Triathlon team. Her favorite distance is the Ironman which is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run.

I was a sophomore in dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University when I met my husband, David Datwyler. He was actually my lab instructor and was teaching me how to make an orthodontic retainer but the thing that ended up bringing us together was we were both runners. Our first true date was actually a training run through the town of Portland.

So our first date was a training run through the town of Portland, and Im still running! Im actually a triathlete now Ive done 10 Ironman Races and countless Half Ironman races. Training to compete for Ironman is intense, but I love pushing myself, seeing what I can really do. I love just being out there with my friends and with Dave, and I love the sense of community!

They are so competent and experienced, but theyre fun, and they have a real talent for being able to meet a child where theyre at. They believe in what they do. They want you to have a great experience, each and every time you come through our doors. And they want to make sure that you and your child leave with a big old smile on their face.

We always make sure to show a little extra TLC to toddlers and children with special needs. We recognize that every single child is unique, and we celebrate that! Thats why we match the perfect team member for each child to make sure they have a truly magical experience.

We know that were shaping positive dental attitudes for a lifetime, and that is so important to us! Thats why we work really hard to make sure that everybody is comfortable, and we meet them where they are.

Do you have kids? Im married, and we have one beautiful daughter who is 2 years old. We also have a Great Dane named Marley and a Boxer named Mia. What TV show are you most likely to binge watch? This is embarrassing, but probably Teen Mom! I don't know why I love that show so much. What's your nickname? Ash-Moo (Thanks, Mom!) Where's the best place to eat around here? In Sutter Creek, I love Element, and in Eldorado Hills, I love Mimosa House. Because brunch is life!

What's your family like?I married my high school sweetheart, and we have a pretty cool three year old boy who runs the show. Which TV show are you most likely to binge watch? The Office! I watch it every night before bed. Micheal Scotts awkwardness calms me, ha! In the story of your life, which Hollywood actor would play you? Tina Fey, because she is my spirit animal! Do you have any strange phobias or fears? My husband says he would rather wrestle an alligator than give me eye drops... so I guess you could say Im scared of my eyes. What do you love about your job?I love being a part of making a childs dental experience positive and possible. When a child walks in so scared the parent doesnt think we can get anything done, and I am able to turn it around with our bag of tricks and fairy dust, and they walk out with their prize so proud of themselves for getting their teeth brushed. That makes my job special.

What do you love about your job? Ever since I was young - I knew I wanted to work in the dental field! As a kid I was abnormally excited for all my dental visits - I had good experiences and wanted to give that to other kids as well. Making sure the patients are comfortable during their visit and connecting with the kiddos is so fun & rewarding!

We joke around that theres a little extra fairy dust in the air here at Magic Smiles. We work hard to make going to the dentist a magical experience for the kids but its also true for us! Its an amazing thing to be able to make a child laugh whos a little fearful at the dentist, or just hold their hand if they need a little extra TLC.

Because were parents first, we really, truly treat every child as if they were our own. We know what its like to have your child in the chair for the first time. It can cause a little anxiety for the child and for the parent. Weve been there with our own children, so we understand, and were here for you!

We love this community! Its really fun and rewarding to see these kids grow up. Weve seen kids from the time they were one or two-years-old, and now theyre coming back when theyre majoring in biology.

Were all parents here, so we want to make sure that these kids are treated with the highest-quality materials and technology thats available. Children will have their baby teeth until theyre 11, 12, or even 13 years old, and these teeth actually guide the permanent teeth. Thats why its so important to take care of these baby teeth early to set your child up for a future of great dental health.

A healthy smile is so important for these kids. When they have a healthy smile, they can perform well in school. They have confidence, they smile, they laugh more! And its a great feeling for us as a team to be a part of that.

Our hygiene rooms have three open bays, and each bay has a movie above its chair. So every patient can enjoy a movie of their choice during their routine check-ups. Plus, every child gets to choose prizes after each visit as a reward!
