Dr. Madsen grew up in Bergen County New Jersey. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1984. He went on to dental school at UMDNJ, New Jersey Dental School in Newark New Jersey where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1989. Dr. Madsen furthered his education in dentistry by completing a post-doctoral program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at The New Jersey Dental School in 1990.
Dr. Madsen maintains a private practice in general dentistry since 1991 with his wife, Dr. Placa in Avenel New Jersey. Dr. Madsen also maintains staff privileges at Jersey Shore University Medical Center since 2000 where he teaches the General Practice residents in the dental clinic servicing patients from the community.

She went on to dental school at UMDNJ, New Jersey Dental School in Newark New Jersey where she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1989. Dr. Placa furthered her education in dentistry by completing a post-doctoral program in General Practice at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune New Jersey in 1990. In 2001, Dr. Placa received her Masters in Public Healthcare Administration from Kean University.

This dentist office staff are very rude and not friendly at all. The dentist said I had numerous amounts of cavities and I went to another doctor one week later for a second opinion and they said I had only one. They make you do everything in different appointments so you have to go back multiple visits. I would not recommend this dentist at all, horrible experience.

Madsen and Placa Family Dentistry over billed me $1769.00. When I questioned them, the billing clerk was rude and argumentative, she stated they had mailed bills to me that I had ignored. I never received a bill from them until February 2022. As a retired USPS employee, I subscribe to "Informed Delivery" from the post office which sends you an email with images of the mail you will receive daily. I keep these emails and there is no record of them mailing me a bill until 2/2022. It took them five months to prepare a corrected bill, they were trying to collect the difference between the insurance allowed charges and what they bill, which is ILLEGAL! Additionally, I agree with a previous poster who stated that their equipment is old and they make you come back for numerous unnecessary visits, just to increase your bill. I have had to have two root canals redone, suffered immense pain and had to miss work because of their incompetence. The endodontist that I went to, to have the two root canals retreated, said they were terrible root canals. They never matched the colors of my teeth correctly, one of my crowns is currently loose, and the dentist actually cut the inside of my mouth with the drill one time and tried to blame me. How could I possibly cut the inside of my cheek when my mouth was open? At no time was an apology offered for the billing "error"! Bottom line, I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

By far the worst experience ever. Staff is rude and unprofessional and the dentist co-signs this negative behavior. Multiple visit for exams, half the time no work is done! Would not recommend to my enemy. Luckily there are multiple dentist around that value their customers. One bad apple does not spoil the bunch!

After they said they accept your insurance and they called to verify you insurance benefits they lied and didn't do there job . Go somewhere else. they are Rude and unprofessional.

Love them both. Was able to get squeezed in because I'd cracked a tooth. Dr Placa did my root canal, followed by Dr Madsen having a cap put in and both processes could not have gone better.

I found Dr. Madsen and Dr. Placa to be sincere, genuine, ethical and approachable. They are also competent, knowledgeable and efficient. I had to have root canal treatment, a post inserted and a crown installed. This was all achieved without pain and without damage to my mouth. I recommend these good dentists to anyone who needs work on their teeth. I especially recommend them to people who are scared of dentists.
