When it comes to choosing an orthodontist for yourself or your child, there are a lot of things to consider. But one thing you need to be sure of is that you are choosing an orthodontist with the highest level of training and experience.
Board certification signifies that an orthodontist is committed to the highest level of care possible, and is an achievement only reached by about one third of orthodontists in America. In addition to graduating from an accredited orthodontic training program, board certified orthodontists have undergone extensive training and presented patient cases to signify their excellence in everything that goes in to orthodontics. The rigorous process to become board certified takes into account an orthodontists treatment planning skills, judgement, technique and finished smiles.
If you are getting braces, you are on your way to a beautiful new smile! Orthodontic treatment is a way of straightening or moving teeth to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they function. It will also help improve the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by balancing the biting pressure over all your teeth. Braces are the most common of all orthodontic treatment options used today.
Orthodontic treatment is one of the fastest changing fields in modern dentistry today. Advancements in materials have made traditional metal braces more comfortable than ever before. The brackets are made out of small, low-profile stainless steel with smoothed edges and offer patients a more comfortable orthodontic experience.
Maddux Orthodontics located in Virginia Beach, VA is pleased to offer orthodontic treatment with clear aligners so you can get the beautiful smile you want without the metal brackets or wires. The groundbreaking Invisalign system is designed to gently straighten your teeth using a series of custom-made, clear aligners. They can be easily removed allowing you to eat, play sports, or enjoy social occasions. Each aligner provides just enough pressure at exactly the right time to move your teeth into their optimal positions.
Pediatric sleep apnea is a growing field of study for both orthodontics and dentists. Dr. Maddux and the team at Maddux Orthodontics recognizes how vital good quality sleep is to children, teens and adults. Adequate sleep is necessary for growing, developing, learning and focusing.
Maintaining good overall health depends on getting good quality sleep at night. Frequently, we see children with the classic symptoms of poor rest due to open mouth posture during sleep. The proper position of the mouth during sleep is closed with the lips together. This ensures that the tongue does not fall into the soft tissues of the palate and breathing is focused through the nasal passages. If children have a habit of thumb-sucking or pacifier use as infants and into early childhood, chances are the jaw may open during sleep.
Maddux Orthodontics in Virginia Beach, VA, is pleased to offer early orthodontic treatment. Early orthodontic treatment, sometimes referred to as Phase 1 treatment or early interceptive treatment, occurs when a child has a mixture of permanent and baby teeth. The main objectives of early orthodontic treatment are to create space in the mouth for erupting permanent teeth and to help prevent permanent teeth extractions and more invasive procedures in the future.
