Esther Bishop Machen, DDS, graduated from Ricks College and then Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. After practicing as a dental hygienist for four years, she attended theUniversity of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistrywhere she graduated in June 2010. She practiced as a general dentist in Independence, Missouri prior to moving back home to Southeast Idaho in July of 2011.
While in dental school, Dr. Machen received aPresidential Citation from the Missouri Dental Associationfor leading the efforts to change legislation for the protection of the dental consumer in Missouri. She was awarded theAmerican Academy of Gold Foil Operators Awardand thePierre Fauchard Academy Scholarshipin 2009. In 2010, she was inducted into theOmicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. After being invited into the Honors Program in Pediatric Dentistry, she was able to complete advanced studies in the area of pediatric dentistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Machen received the Certificate of Merit from theAmerican Academy of Pediatric Dentistryfor the class of 2010. Rather than just treating symptoms, Dr. Machen is an Idaho Falls dentist that believes in a comprehensive approach to dental health. She loves the long-term relationships she has created with her patients.
Dr. Machen was born in Rexburg and raised in Chester, and she attended North Fremont High School.Growing up in a large family and working in the family logging business gave her the drive to get an education, although she still enjoys running a chain saw.Throughout her life, she has enjoyed participating in athletics especially track, cross country, and Spartan racing.She was a high school athletic standout, a state champion, and was a collegiate runner for Ricks College.She met her husband and love of her life, Shane, while attending Ricks College and they completed their dental and medical educations together in Kansas City.
The dental field was not a natural choice for Dr. Machen, having no family in the medical field, and only going to the dentist once as a child due to financial issues.However, after being exposed to the dental field through dental hygiene, Dr. Machen knew she found a profession that she would love.Dr. Machen truly enjoys all aspects of dentistry and loves taking care of her patients.
Dr. King was born and raised in southeast Idaho. He has close ties to dentistry from an early age, and even worked as a dental assistant throughout his high school years. After serving a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Denmark, he attended BYU-Idaho to attain his bachelors degree in exercise science. He then attended dental school in Portland, Oregon at Oregon Health Science University.
Dr. King loves dentistry and involving himself in continuous education in the field. Starting in his undergraduate years he involved himself in study clubs and research. At OHSU, he worked in dental materials research with one of their top research faculty. Following dental school, Dr. King was selected to work in the University of Utah General Practice Residency where he honed many skills in general practice including oral surgery and wisdom teeth extractions, root canal therapy, and IV sedation. He also spent many hours working with special needs patients in an O.R. setting under general anesthesia. Dr. King is very excited to be in his home state and loves the opportunities Idaho provides for work and family. He loves outdoor activities, small woodwork projects, and most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 children.

After a series of "seek and did not find", I stumbled on some luck . . . Having experienced a broken tooth, I called Machen Dentistry . . . I went in with the hopes of having the broken tooth removed. And Dr. Jason King did not disappoint. After a preliminary exam, he went right to work and in less than 1/2 hour. I was on my way home. Dr. King gets an A+ in my book. And he was able to completely numb the affected tissues and complete the extraction. I would recommend Dr. King at Machen Dentistry for your next trip to a dentist . . . He'll get you back on the road in no time . . .!!!

Imagine actually enjoying a trip to the dentist. Dr. Machen is amazing. The thing I appreciate the most, is her desire to achieve perfection in everything she does. The pride she takes in her work is easy to see and it is appreciated. Would never go to another dentist and neither should you.

As new patients, we've been extremely happy with Machen Family Dentistry! From the front office staff, to the dental hygienists, assistants and Dr. Blauer we have been extremely impressed with the level of care each member of our family has received. The front office staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, the hygienists and assistants have been very informative and thorough and Dr. Blauer has been very patient, attentive to detail and insistent that we do all we can to improve some bite issues I've struggled with for quite some time. We are so pleased with this dentist office and would recommend Machen Family Dentistry to anyone considering finding a new dentist!

Since my boys and I began going there, my children are no longer afraid of the dentist, they rarely have cavities, and the staff is incredibly professional, kind and compassionate. Dr. King and his assistant were fantastic, as well as the front staff. Highly recommend going here if, like me, you are typically terrified to go to the dentist. They will make you feel so welcome and ensure you are comfortable!

I love how thorough Dr. Machen is! She always gives the best care! I especially love that she explains to me what is going on in my mouth in a respectful and clear way that I can understand. And she thoroughly explains what treatments are available (if needed). I can tell that she really cares about her patients because of the considerate way she treats me every time. One time she was worried about something in my mouth (I can't remember what) and so she wanted to take an x ray, but told her I didn't want to because I wasn't sure if my insurance would cover them. She was so kind about it, and even told me that she wouldn't charge me for the x rays if my insurance didn't cover them. She is super knowledgeable and always does top notch work!

No one enjoys going to the dentist but I can truly say that I love going to Machen Family Dentistry. Everyone is so nice and it is always a pleasant experience. My entire family goes to them because they are so great.

Very caring, you get the quote upfront, prices are reasonable, and they explain everything. The best part, the entire staff is friendly. Usually dentist are great and front end staff is horrible. NOT HERE! All of them are friendly, professional, and courteous. I highly recommend!!

These are very nice people, but Dr. King took out a crown and then said he couldn't rebuild it.Should of would have left it alone. Now its going to cost more money. He seems as if he's scared to do anything. The office manager is kinda not so nice.

Machen Family Dentistry is the best place in Idaho Falls to go for dental care! I had THE BEST dentist ever, until he got sick and retired!! I have been searching and going everywhere in town trying to find someplace that was nice and had excellent staff, caring hygienist and dentist's that don't want to sell you all the products to "FIX" your teeth! I HAVE FINALLY FOUND THAT PLACE!!! MACHEN IS HERE TO HELP YOU AND KEEP MONEY IN YOUR POCKET! WIN, WIN SITUATION!! I am so glad, I'm now happy again going to the dentist!!
