Being an orthodontist is an amazing job. The most rewarding part is watching each patient's self-confidence and personality transform along with their new, beautiful smile. I get to give my patients something that will positively affect their entire life, for the rest of their life. I often think about my patients, ten years from now, walking into a job interview with confidence and a shining smile.

Orthodontics is also a lot of fun! Each patient is a unique puzzle for me to solve, figuring out exactly where I want to get them to and how to achieve the best smile for them. I strongly believe in providing each patient with the most advanced care options, combined with a traditional, hands-on approach providing the best of both worlds.

The most enjoyable part of the orthodontic experience is building relationships with my patients. It's wonderful to help them achieve their goals through the power of an incredible smile. As an orthodontist, I have the unique pleasure of seeing my patients every month, watching them grow, and learning all about their lives and dreams. Dr. Justin Maccaro

During his residency, Dr. Maccaro was recognized by faculty and his peers for his treatment's efficiency and proficiency and received the honor of completing the most patients of any resident in the history of the program.

Committed to life-long learning, Dr. Maccaro regularly participates in continuing education, staying up to date on recent advances and changes in technologies and treatments. He incorporates the best of these to give his patients the shortest, most effective care, and most incredible smile results.

Dr. Maccaro regularly attends national and regional conferences on orthodontics, Invisalign, pediatric dentistry, and growth and development. Additionally, he is a member of a local study club, allowing him to learn from and collaborate with other dentists and specialists in the community, and he continues to remain current on research findings through peer-refereed journals.

For a pediatric dentist, every day and each patient is different, bringing new joys and challenges. My greatest reward comes from reassuring a previously frightened and crying child, along with their nervous parent, and seeing them leave with happy smiles.

I'm people-oriented and enjoy getting to know each patient on a personal level. I love hearing about their day, adventures, and dreams. It's a pleasure to watch these children grow, excel, and become amazing adults. I enjoy graduating them to adult dentists, with healthy smiles and the knowledge needed to keep them in great shape for years to come. Dr. Henry Maccaro

Dr. Maccaro is committed to staying current with advances and changes in treatment and technologies, ensuring his patients receive the best care available. Each year he attends numerous national and regional conferences on pediatric dentistry, dental trauma, and growth and development. He is also an active member of a local study club and regularly reads dental journals to stay abreast of research findings and changes in methodologies.

Dr. Maccaro feels it's important to give back to the community beyond the care he offers in his office. He regularly visits local schools to teach children about oral health and the importance of keeping their smiles in great shape.

Danny has been a patient in our office since he was a young boy and now forms a very special part of our team. Dentistry is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions, disorders, and diseases of the teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw. Often considered necessary for complete oral health, dentistry can have an impact on the health of your entire body.

A dentist is a specialist who works to diagnose, treat, and prevent oral health problems. Your dentist has completed at least eight years of schooling, and received either a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree, or a DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree. If your doctor is a pediatric dentist, this means that he or she specializes in caring for children from infancy through their teen years. A pediatric dentist has received the proper education and training needed to work with young kids. Other specializations include:

Your teeth may feel fine, but it's still important to see the dentist regularly because problems can exist without you knowing. Your smile's appearance is important, and your dentist can help keep your smile healthy and looking beautiful. With so many advances in dentistry, you no longer have to settle for stained, chipped, missing, or misshapen teeth. Today's dentists offer many treatment choices that can help you smile with confidence, including:

  • Avoid foods with a lot of sugar (sugar increases the amount of bacteria that grows in your mouth causing more plaque and possibly cavities) and avoid tobacco (this can stain your teeth, cause gum disease, and eventually lead to oral cancer).
  • The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children first see a dentist as early as six months of age and no later than one year of age. During this time, your child's baby teeth will be coming in and your dentist can examine the health of your child's first few teeth. After the first visit, be sure to schedule regular checkups every six months.

Children, teens, and adults should all see the dentist for a regular checkup at least once every six months. Patients who are at a greater risk for oral cancer or gum disease may be required to see the dentist more than just twice a year. Your doctor will help determine how often you should visit the dentist for regular checkups.

A cavity is a small hole that forms inside the tooth because of tooth decay. Cavities are formed when plaque buildup on the outside of the tooth combines with sugars and starches in the food you eat. This produces an acid that can eat away the enamel on your tooth. If a cavity is left untreated, it can lead to more serious oral health problems. Cavities can be prevented by remembering to brush your teeth at least two times a day and floss between teeth at least once.

A filling is a synthetic material that your dentist uses to fill a cavity after all of the tooth decay has been removed. Fillings do not generally hurt because your dentist will numb your mouth with an anesthetic. Fillings are made from a variety of different materials, including composites, gold, or ceramic. If you need a filling, be sure to talk to your doctor about what type is best for you and your teeth.

According to your dentist and the American Dental Association, you should brush your teeth at least two times a day. Brushing keeps your teeth, gums, and mouth clean and healthy by removing bacteria-causing plaque. It is also recommended that you use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste that contains fluoride when you brush your teeth. You should spend at least a minute on the top teeth and a minute on the bottom teeth, and remember to brush your tongue; it will help keep your breath smelling fresh!

Your toothbrush will eventually wear out, especially if you are brushing your teeth twice a day for two to three minutes each time. Your dentist recommends that adults and children change their toothbrush every three months. If you are using an electric toothbrush, be sure to read the directions because you may not need to change toothbrush heads as frequently. Patients with gum disease are encouraged to change their toothbrush every four to six weeks to keep any bacteria from spreading. After brushing, rinse your toothbrush with hot water to kill germs and keep the bristles clean. If you've been sick, be sure to change your toothbrush as soon as possible.

Also known as periodontal disease, gum disease is mostly caused by plaque and bacteria buildup that is not treated in its early stage. Other causes of periodontal disease include tobacco use, teeth grinding, some medications, and genetics. Gingivitis is the beginning stage of gum disease, and, if detected, is treatable. Gingivitis left untreated may turn into gum disease. Advanced gum disease will lead to tooth and bone loss, and is a permanent condition. Brushing your teeth regularly and visiting the dentist every six months will help prevent gingivitis and more severe cases of periodontal disease. Common signs of gum disease:

Yes! In fact, it's even more important that patients receiving orthodontic treatment visit their dentist regularly. With braces, food may be caught in places that your toothbrush can't reach. This causes bacteria to build up and can lead to cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Your dentist will work closely with your orthodontist to make sure that your teeth stay clean and healthy while wearing braces.

Simply call our practice! Our front desk staff will be happy to help schedule your next dental checkup at your convenience. If you are a new patient, please let us know and we will provide you with all the information you need for your first dental visit.

For most people, achieving a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for receiving orthodontic care. If you're self-conscious about your smile, correcting your concerns with braces will greatly improve the way you look and feel.

When your treatment is complete, you will have the smile you've always dreamed of and the confidence to show it off! We also want you to feel comfortable and confident throughout your entire orthodontic experience, and our practice is dedicated to making sure that you receive the quality care you deserve.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.

Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!

Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.

Brought my almost 2 year old to the dentist for the first time. She had fun waiting in the waiting area (prob 20+ minutes). The style of the office is very different than usual and is not what I expected. It is very open like a hair salon almost. There wasn't much that we could do for her teeth as they aren't all in yet, but I just wanted to introduce the idea of the dentist to her young/early. She gives us less grief when we brush her teeth now, using a Frozen Elsa toothbrush they gave us. Overall it was a positive experience and I will be going back next year when she has all her teeth.

We came to Dr. Maccaro on a friend's recommendation after having horrible cleaning experiences elsewhere with my 3 year old. I wanted to find someone who would ease my son's fears and make him feel comfortable - Dr. Maccaro has done that and MORE! The office has allowed us to ease into the process and after a couple of casual visits to the office, my son sat for a cleaning with a smile! Dr. Maccaro and his staff are just FABULOUS! They could not have been kinder and more accommodating, and they have truly calmed a fear in my son that I thought might turn into a lifelong fear of the dentist. My son now looks forward to seeing Dr. Maccaro and going to the office!

My children have never been so excited to go to the dentist! This was our first visit and certainly won't be the last. The practice is family owned and operated and it feels more like you're sitting down to a holiday table for dinner than going into a medical facility. The staff was genuinely friendly, welcoming and caring. The treatment received was modern and top notch yet came with all the wealth of experience and know-how that comes with a lifetime of devoted professional practice. If you are in need of pediatric dental or orthodontic care, this is your next stop.

Our visit was positive from the moment we arrived - from the smiling faces at the front desk to the beautiful fish tank that kept my toddler happily enthralled until his appointment began (just on time)! The dentist and hygienist were both very approachable and friendly so my son was comfortable as they guided us through the appointment. Everyone we interacted with was happy and greeted us- including 2 cute pups who sometimes roam the floors of the gorgeous new office. We are so happy we found Maccaro. Thank you!

I went to Dr. Macarro a year ago for an Invisalign consultation and knew I finally found the right orthodontist! His entire office staff makes the process easy and seamless from start to finish. Quick scheduling, no wait times, and an immaculately clean office. Dr. Macarro was able to identify adjustments that needed to be made and proactively make those changes to my Invisalign throughout the process so I didnt waste any time. I recently got them off, and could not be happier!

I have been going to Dr. Maccaro's for more than a decade, and every visit has been amazing! There is a welcoming and caring atmosphere from the moment you walk in, that melted any apprehension the young me had! Dr. Maccaro's jovial personality, the hygienists kindness and professionalism, and the administrative aids efficiency and courteous nature, make each experience fantastic! Ms. Santina is awesome! Furthermore, the work they do has been enhancing my smile and overall confidence for years! I always get complements on my smile among friends and, since going to college, in interviews as well! There is so many more wonderful aspects of this office, but suffice it to say, they are splendid!!!

My 2.5 year old son had his first visit with Dr. Maccaro at Maccaro Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry last week and it could not have gone any better. Their brand new facility is state of the art while also having a very warm and inviting feel. My son was very shy at first but quickly opened up to the friendly staff. They treated us as though we have been familiar patients for years. Dr. Maccaro was so patient with my son and allowed him to sit on my lap for his initial exam. I was so relieved as a mom that I wasn't put in the position where I was forced to hold him down. It was a piece of cake facilitated by Dr. Maccaros' professionalism ,experience and kind demeanor. I want to add that aside from being a mom, professionally I am a pediatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in primary care. As a result of the exemplary care we received that day, Maccaro Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry has moved to the top of my referral list! I can assure my patients that they will be in great hands.

The whole team at Maccaro Orthodontics is amazing. They are super knowledgeable and friendly. Both Dr. Justin and Dr. Maccaro get to know the patients and make them feel comfortable before they begin working on my girls' teeth. Their office is very clean and attractive. The staff is welcoming and the hours of operation are very accommodating to our crazy schedules. We love coming here. Our favorite part is we never have to wait ridiculous amounts of time in the waiting room.
