Summer is one of our licensed assistants. She started working here full time in August 2007 and has been a fantastic addition to our dedicated team. She brings to the practice over 20 years of experience in the dental field. Summer enjoys learning new things in the office and has worn many hats from assisting the doctors chairside, to working on our website, and social media. She recently started working with our new patients and coordinates our City of Lakes Study Club. We count on her for many things in our office and she is always up to the task. She takes great pride in knowing our patients are comfortable, relaxed, and informed. She is committed to taking the best care of our patients and our doctors. She is knowledgeable in all procedures Dr. Wilson and Dr. Kersten performs.
Summer is married with two beautiful children, two dogs and a cat. Her favorite times are spent with her family and friends. You can catch Summer walking the family dogs with her husband in the evening, at a baseball field in the summer cheering on her sons team or supporting her daughter who is a dancer.
Amy has been in the dental field since 1999 and has a been a registered Dental Assistant since 2002. Amy comes to Metropolitan Periodontists with a multitude of experience in the dental field. Amy enjoys working with patients to help them get the most benefit from their dental insurance. Amy discovered her love of working with dental insurance shortly out of school. Amy submits the treatment plans to insurance companies for our patients. She is a whiz when it comes to figuring out insurance benefits for patients in a pinch! She is also the in house tech for computers.
When Amy is not working, she is running around with her husband and extended family of 6 nieces and nephews. She also enjoys watching her best friends 2 boys play sports and helping when she can. Amy enjoys her husbands home brew, playing with her 2 cats and red lab, Rigby!
JJ graduated from Herzing University in 2016 with a degree in Dental Assisting. JJ has been with Metropolitan Periodontist since May of 2018. She enjoys working with patients and is committed to making sure they have a great experience while in our office.
JJ recently got married and has 3 handsome little boys. In her free time, she enjoys dance parties with her kids, Yoga, and interior design. She also enjoys traveling around the world with her husband, they have visited over 14 different states.
Sydney met Dr. Kersten while volunteering at the Hope Dental clinic in 2019 and joined our team fulltime in May of 2020. She has been working in our office on our assisting team and on our front deskteam to get as much experience in the dental field as possible while she prepares to apply fordental school.
Lisa graduated from North Dakota State College of Science in Dental hygiene in 1998 but has been in the dental industry since 1988. Lisa has been with us since 2012 and has been a terrific addition to our team. Lisa is a very knowledgeable hygienist and is always seeking information to make sure she is up to date on the latest studies and technologies in dentistry. Lisa was the first hygienist in the State of Minnesota to use the Perioscopy. Her focus when a patient is in her chair is to make sure she is taking the best care of them. She knows that each patient is unique and requires personalized care to fit their needs. Lisa also helps coordinate our hygiene study club which includes about 20 other hygienists from offices around the Twin Cities.
In her free time Lisa enjoys golfing, downhill skiing, camping, and many other outdoor activities. She has been married to her husband Chris for over 30 years and has an adult son named Joshua. When she is not spending time with her family she enjoys running with her lab 'Charley'.
Tawn joined our team in March of 2018. She is new to our team but not new to assisting. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has been assisting for 25 years. She attended the University of MN and Lakeland Medical and Dental Academy.
Tawn is married and has two active children. Her son is pursuing a career as a carpenter and coaches competitive high school mountain biking. Her daughter is a competitive gymnast and slow pitch softball player. One of her favorite things to do is watch her kids participate in their activities. She is a member of a community service organization, New Hope Women of Today. Tawn is also a sports fan. She loves watching football, baseball, and college basketball. She also enjoys entertaining, reading, movies and travel.
We would like to welcome Ericka back to our office. Ericka was an assistant at Metropolitan Periodontists from 2009 to 2015 and has recently returned. Ericka has 27 years of experience as a dental assistant in the Minneapolis area. She has experience working in group, private, government, and specialty practices. She has also volunteered both locally and internationally.
Daisy is the newest member of our team. Before joining she was at a community dental clinic for over 3 years in South Minneapolis from Outreach Coordinator to Chairside Assisting. While working at the community clinic Daisy was able to be a part of Donated Dental Services (DDS) and coordinated a mobile dental unit that visited elementary schools and long-term care facilities. She has also volunteered at Hope Dental Clinic during Give Kid a Smile events helping families with their dental needs. Daisy has been attending Herzing University and is in the Dental Assisting program, she will be graduating in December 2020.
In 2007, Dr. Wilson and orthodontist Dr. Karen Reese trained for and began implementing Wilckodontics as another exciting treatment option. Wilckodontics uses a combination of traditional periodontal techniques to greatly accelerate the orthodontic process. Braces can be completed in months instead of years.
Dr. Wilson is a member of numerous dental societies, including the American Academy of Periodontology, the Midwest Society of Periodontology, the Minnesota Association of Periodontists (including 5 years as Secretary and 2 years as President), the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association and the Minneapolis District Dental Society.
In 1993, Dr. Wilson founded and to this day, continues to run, the City of Lakes Study Club, a local chapter of the prestigious national Seattle Study Club. This is a group of general dentists and dental specialists dedicated to continued advanced study of comprehensive dentistry. This is achieved by workshop sessions with nationally renowned speakers and by clinical sessions, during which the group brainstorms about possible approaches to specific complex cases. In 2000, the national organization awarded Dr. Wilson with the first ever Educational Community Achievement Award as acknowledgement of his dedicated work both in his field and the community. In 2008, the members of the Study Club presented Dr. Wilson with a plaque recognizing him as a bridge builder enabling a more effective dental community in the Twin Cities.
Both MPLS./ST.PAUL Magazine and Minnesota Monthly Magazine have consistently listed Dr. Wilson as a Top Dentist in the Twin Cities. The magazines determine this by polling local dentists and hygienists to see whom they would go to for work if they needed it. In 2008, the Minnesota edition of Doctor of Dentistry honored Dr. Wilson by featuring him in their cover story.
Dr. Wilson has two surviving adult children. His daughter Alex graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2008 and spent 18 months teaching in Korea where she met her husband, she is now married with three beautiful children and lives in Alaska. His son Ian will be getting married next year and lives in the Metro area. Dr. Wilson and Ian enjoy spending time together. They are both avid Twins and Vikings fans. You can also find Dr. Wilson on the golf course every Thursday afternoon and early morning on the weekends. In October 2006, he married a local restorative dentist, Dr. Patti Froeber. The two of them like gardening, cooking, travelling together.

Dr. Kersten graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2006 with a BA in Physics and a passion for learning how things work. After working as a software engineer both in India and back home in Minneapolis, he switched paths to pursue a career in dentistry.
In 2014, he graduated with distinction from the UMN School of Dentistry. Dr. Kersten obtained his certificate in periodontology from the UMN in 2017 and is experienced in conscious sedation, implantology, and the field of periodontics, including LANAP.
Dr. Kersten is a deliberate practitioner and believes in providing the best care for his patients. He is a strong believer in study clubs and the value they can provide interdisciplinary dentistry and comprehensive care for his patients. Dr. Kersten is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Midwest Society of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Minnesota Dental Association and the Minneapolis District Dental Society.
A native Minnesotan but born in England, Dr. Kersten has also lived in Germany and India. He is an avid traveler and has spent time visiting South Korea, Brazil, Russia, and countries throughout Europe. Dr. Kersten is health-oriented, active, and enjoys spending time with his wife. When he and his wife arent working on their fixer-upper cabin, he can be found in the gym, experimenting in the kitchen, or exploring the Twin Cities' vibrant food scene.
