After earning his dental degree from the NYU School of Dentistry Dr. Robert Florio completed a two-year externship at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine for Advanced Continuing Education in periodontal surgery. This extensive externship included a surgical residency along with lecture studies.

In addition to his residency at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Dr. Florio also completed a two-year externship at Nassau County Medical Center for oral surgery. This too entailed a two-year surgical residency. Once the residency was completed he chose to remain on the staff for an additional five years as a general dental consultant to the oral surgery department.

Dr. Florios love of learning and searching for answers in the treatment of dental diseases has led him to extensively pursue advanced continuing education studies in dental cosmetics, jaw disorders, and full-mouth rehabilitation from two of the worlds most prestigious dental institutions: the Pankey Institute for Post Graduate Education and the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry, where only a hand- full of dentists worldwide have completed this rigorous training. He has completed 5 continuums at the Pankey Institute for Postgraduate Continuing Education. He is also a graduate of the Center for Professional Advancement in Arizona.

His commitment to training and advanced technology allows him to offer his patients a high level of care, with special interest for those with jaw disorders and those wanting to improve their self-confidence and self-esteem with smile makeovers. He is passionate about incorporating new products and materials into his dental practice.

Dr. Florio and his wife, Carolyn, have two wonderful children, Nicole and Eric, and two beautiful grandchildren. In his spare time, you might find him on the basketball court or riding his bicycle. And on sunny days he may steal away for relaxation on the beach.

All Porcelain Crowns These modern crowns are very appealing. If youre self-conscious about your smile due to cracked, broken, decayed, or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy, natural-looking smile with dental crowns.

Bonding Cosmetic bonding and contouring are procedures in which a tooth-colored material is applied layer by layer. Dr. Florios and Dr. Kohners artistic techniques of layering the material to the surface of the tooth aids in covering discoloration, repairing chips, breaks, and cracks, and closing gaps between teeth. Composite bonding is one of the most conservative, versatile, and affordable ways to aesthetically restore a multitude of cosmetic problems.

Bridges If you have lost teeth due to an accident, injury, or gum disease, we can create a permanent bridge appliance to replace the missing teeth. A fixed bridge will prevent teeth from shifting, and stabilize your bite.

Full dentures are for patients whose natural teeth have been removed. Partial dentures are attached to a metal frame, which is connected to your natural teeth. They are used to fill in the spaces where your permanent teeth have been removed. Partial dentures are considered a removable alternative to bridges.

Digital X-Rays Digital X-rays are a new, fast, and precise way for Doctors Florio and Kohner to see inside your mouth. Digital X-ray sensors are used instead of the traditional photographic film. This makes the process more time efficient and produces clearer images for the dentist. Digital X-rays use up to 90 percent less radiation than traditional X-rays, making the procedure much safer for the patient.

Headache ReliefIf you suffer from migraine headaches, Doctors Florio and Doctor Kohner may be able to help you. Stress and tension cause some people to clench their jaws, resulting in severe head, neck, and shoulder pain.

NTI is an FDA approved Tension Suppression System which fits to yourteeth. Its worn at night to help reduce the intense muscle contractions in your scalp and jaw, which can cause migraines and jaw pain. Studies have shown that NTI can reduce the intensity of jaw clenching by over 60 percent, reducing the number and frequency of headaches.

LumineersDue to their ultra thin and highly translucent design, lumineers can replicate the natural appearance of enamel. As a result of their unique design, little to no tooth reduction is necessary making it a pain-free procedure. The durability of Lumineers allows them to resist wear and retain their natural appearance for years to come. They are a great way to reshape and/or whiten your worn, broken, and/or discolored teeth into a natural, beautiful smile.

We always start with the least invasive option. The first treatment is a cleaning called scaling and root planning. With this treatment an ultrasonic cleaning device is used to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth under the gum line. The rough surface of the tooth and the root are smoothed out (planed), resulting in a healthy, clean surface that makes it easier for the gum tissue to re-attach to the tooth. If the tissue or bone surrounding your teeth is too damaged to be repaired with non-surgical treatment, several surgical procedures are available to prevent severe damage and restore a healthy smile. We will recommend the procedure that is best suited to the condition of your teeth and gums.

Porcelain Veneers Porcelain Veneers are custom-made, tooth-colored covers. They are used to close gaps or cover teeth that are stained, crooked, or misshapen. When applied properly to your teeth, they can give you a beautiful new smile. Veneers are very durable, non-traditional caps. The formation, and fitting, of them can be completed in a few short visits.

Root Canal Therapy Under the enamel of a tooth lays a soft tissue called the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue, which aid in growing the root of your tooth during development. When the pulp becomes infected, or irreversibly inflamed, root canals are used to save the tooth and relieve any pain the patient is experiencing. Dr. Florio and Dr. Kohnerhave extensive experience with root canals, ensuring that you will have a painless experience.

Soft Tissue Management Soft tissue management is necessary when a patients gums and root surfaces are infected, this is referred to as Periodontal disease. (read about ourPeriodontal Therapy). These diseases are a result of bacteria on the tooth surface, both above and below the gum line. The bacteria can destroy the gum tissue and bone. In order to eliminate the infection, each patient will receive a personalized plan.

For patients who need additional periodontal treatment we offer Arestin, which is an effective antibiotic treatment. Arestin is placed inside infected periodontal pockets immediately after your scaling and root planing procedure. The antibiotic is released over time into the infected periodontal pocket, killing the bacteria that live there and eliminating the infection.

Over the years, food stains can work their way into the enamel of your teeth. KR Whitening Deep Bleaching System provides a thorough removal of stains from your enamel, rejuvenating your teeth with amazing whiteness. Oxygen from the KR whitening gel is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving stains at the molecular level. Discover the benefits of KR Whitening!

During your visit to our office, we make a mold of your teeth and create a set of thin, form-fitting, KR Whitening Trays. You only need to wear your trays, filled with KR patented bleaching gel, while you sleep, so they wont interfere with your lifestyle. With a final in-office whitening session, your treatment will be complete and your smile will be the ideal shade of white thats just right for you.

TMJ Exam (neuromuscular) Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder or Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) can cause a wide variety of mild to severe symptoms. The symptoms can range from jaw clicking and minor discomfort to sharp pain in your temple, ear, jaw, and teeth. In some cases it can lock your jaw open or closed, or dislocate the jaw altogether. The TMJ is the joint that connects the lower jaw (the mandible) to your skull, near the ear. When this joint becomes irritated and inflamed, it can be extremely painful to move, making chewing and talking difficult. This becomes a TMD or disorder of the joint.

Dr. Florio and Dr. Kohner thoroughly screen and evaluate patients who show symptoms of TMD. They are trained to detect abnormalities in jaws/joints and muscles using the latest technology. If TMD is detected in a patient, Doctor Florio or Doctor Kohner will create an individualized treatment plan to rid the patient of TMD. They have extensive knowledge and experience with neuromuscular dentistry, setting them apart from other dentists in the area.

To remedy the situation, an appliance can be made to wear over the teeth that will allow the muscles to rest and reduce the symptoms. Medications, massaging of the muscles, moist heat, and even physical therapy may help reduce the pain.

If you experience any of the above symptoms do not ignoreor attempt to cope with them on your own. TMD can get worse, without warning, resulting in permanent damage to the joint, which may require surgery. Your best option is to call our office immediately for an evaluation so that we can get you on the road to recovery and relief.

Tooth Colored Fillings In the dental industry, theres an ongoing debate regarding the pros and cons of using silver fillings (dental amalgams) to fill cavities. In our office, we do not use dental amalgams. Instead, we exclusively use composite resins for several reasons. Composite resins are:

Veneers Veneers can easily correct your teeths imperfections including gaps, chips, or stains. They have a natural appearance and will give you a more confident, beautiful smile. They are a perfect option for patients wanting to make minor adjustments to the look and feel of their smile.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from tooth-colored materials such as porcelain or composite. They are designed to cover the facial surfaces of your teeth. During the preparation process, your doctor will create a unique model of your teeth, which is sent to an outside dental laboratory. A dental technician will fabricate your veneers based off of the model they have received. Once Doctor Florio or Doctor Kohner has received the finished product, they will place your final veneers, evaluating and adjusting them to ensure the optimal fit and color.

My recent experience at Lynbrook Smiles was nothing short then remarkable. From the moment I checked in the receptionist Rose was very helpful and checked me in within a matter of minutes. In no time the Hygienist Esmin who is very friendly and pleasant greeted me and walked me to her work station and did a great job cleaning my teeth. Shortly after Dr. Florio and Dr. Kohner both came in to check on me. They were both very energetic & friendly and took the time to get to know me. Dr. Kohner then checked my teeth and said she was looking forward to seeing me in six months. I have already booked my next appointment and I am looking forward to my next visit. I highly recommend Lynbrook Smiles!
