The Dental World was never perfect. In 2000, the surgeon general announced that a silent epidemic of dental disease existed. Lux Dental knew then as we do now that oral disease is associated with heart disease, respiratory illness, diabetes and much more. For many in healthcare, this was no revelation; it is common sense that illness in your mouth would affect the rest of your body. 80 percent of dental disease fell upon 20% of children. The elderly and the poor had inadequate and inconsistent access to care.

In 2007, Drs. Abe Abdul, Saeed Kashefi, and Ms. Loan Huynh aspired to make a difference. With limited funding, little experience in running a practice, they gave life to Lux Dental. Lux meaning light, was to represent a beacon of hope in enlightening the cause for better oral health. They believed then, as they do now, that patients are just people seeking respect, care and empathy. That the highest standards of care along with a touch of love would heal the masses. The fight to provide care, improve care and advocate for care started in the clinics, but later extended way beyond.

For over a decade, our team has advocated the legislature. Both on Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill. We are the voice for those without a voice. We have educated the populous on oral health by partnering with community organizations. Our doctors are consistently talking about health at seminars and on media. To teach others of our vision, we have developed internships that train the next generation of doctors and healthcare professionals. Members of our team have even travelled globally to teach and serve the less fortunate. Healthcare needed a little marketing, so Luxs Mission Space brought the message of oral health to the stratosphere.

  • Q. What are the health benefits of fluoride? A. Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. It can also reverse erosion that has already taken place. If plaque forms on the teeth and eats away at the enamel, fluoride treatments can replace the minerals in the enamel that have eroded. This allows teeth to remain healthy.

  • Q. What is an explanation of benefits or an EOB? A. This is a document you receive from your insurance. It is not a bill, but rather an explanation of what procedures were performed and what was covered by your dental plan. Though EOBs vary from different insurance companies, they should include the dentists fee, the portion insurance paid and any amount you may owe (such as deductible, coinsurance or non-covered services). It should also include an update on how much of your annual maximum has been used and the amount youve paid toward your deductible. However, for some case, due to information incomplete or out-of-date.

I rescheduled my appointment 3x, you'd think that would be enough time for the receptionists to check my insurance and tell me when I'm eligible for. They waited until the day of my appointment, told me to go into my appointment as they were checking my eligibility, only for me to finish my visit to be told I'm out of network when My first initial question prior to booking my the first appointment is, if they accept my insurance. Service was good with the provider, not worth the unprofessionalism.

The dental assistant/hygienist was extremely rude and unprofessional. I went to my appointment today in a rush so I forgot my mask which rarely happens. The front desk lady told me that I needed a mask, I explained that I forgot and I asked her for one and she said they didn't have any and went to the back. Then the assistant/hygienist came in and started yelling at me for not having a mask. I explained how I forgot about it and she kept going off on me and told me if I didn't have a mask next time she'll send me home. I said I could go home now since I already explained multiple times I forgot my mask and they couldn't give me one either. After saying that the front desk lady then went to the back and got a mask for me, which doesn't make sense because she said they were out of masks. I don't understand why they made such a big fuss about a simple mask which they clearly had spares in the back. I understand that mask is mandatory inside the clinic but sometimes people forget. This whole situation was very unprofessional and just unnecessary. There is no need to treat patients so poorly over something that could've been easily resolved. But I should add, the dentist was really nice and very caring.

The rudest office ever! They should fire and hire some competent people to take appointment and track it. The 2 ladies are completely rude, never again

DR. HEBATALLAH ABBAS - PATIENT Abandonment - MALPRACTICE - UNETHICAL - UNPROFESSIONAL. I've had a tooth filling there. It fell off after 1 year. My tooth started to hurt so I went back and saw Dr. HEBATALLAH ABBAS. She was not helpful and told me that it's "not an emergency" and asked me to come back an other time. 2 weeks later I developed an abcess and went back again. Dr. Abbas walked away from the practice without even having the decency to apologize to me. She told her secretary Adele that she will be back in an hour. I walked the pain off for an hour and came back. Dr. Abbas was no where to be found and never came back. When Adele called her she said that she's an hour away and won't be able to come back to the office. She never gave me any options as far as my emergency I had to go to MGH emergency room for ABCESS, SEPSIS

The hygienist treated me like I was an incompetent mother and even made a remark asking me 'if this was my first child' because my toddler wasn't fully cooperative because he was scared and felt uncomfortable with him. He's 2 - most 2-year-olds do feel uncomfortable in new situations. I should have turned away as soon as I stepped in. Honestly everything down from the front door is gross. The entrance is filled with fingerprints and smudges which tells me that they don't wipe down or clean anything in this place. The office is dingy. Everything needs a update beginning with the crusty couches in the waiting room. If they don't care about that, it makes me wonder if any of their dental tools are up to date and sanitized properly. That being said. I won't be recommending or returning to this place ever again.

This place is terrible. When I first came here, I filled my information and checked the box that said I am pregnant. However, they did not notice it at all. A dentist simply came in and asked to give me an X-ray and provided no lead apron. I was astonished and let them know I am pregnant. What if I did not say that? I was in my first trimester back at that time and it is dangerous without a lead apron. Besides, they are so careless that they sent a wrong claim to my insurance company and charged me for an X-ray!!! I have called them more than 5 times and the lady at the reception provided no help at all. She simply insisted that they have updated the claim in their system and stupidly asked me "why did your insurance company charge you for that". I have also written an email and up till now I received no reply. Then finally, they realized that the claim they sent to my insurance company was wrong and let their billing personnel contact me. It has been two months since I called them about this problem!!! How irresponsible and careless they are! I am so disappointed and definitely will not come ever.

It almost seemed like a scam, it kinda is now that I think again. They did a bunch of services that they don't let you know about only for you to find out later some surprise bills. There are so many Dental Clinics in Cambridge, and I have been very pleased with the service elsewhere. Really bad overall experience at this place.

The owner tried to push Invisalign on me like a used car salesman. He had a pushy and coercive attitude. Don't go here.

I've been going to Lux Dental for about 5 years and they've continued to be excellent care providers. Everyone seems excited to be there, and from appointment scheduling to procedures, I've always felt my comfort and satisfaction were top priority. The staff are transparent and professional and it's great knowing that they go above and beyond for their patients.

I've been waiting to write this because I cannot find the words to express how amazing this location is. They take your dental care to a new level. They extracted my 4 wisdom teeth with no pain. I also got a root canal done and experienced no pain. My Teeth cleaning was fast and efficient. Dr. Chung erased all my dental fears in one visit with his upbeat friendly attitude. He's professional and knows what he's doing. He is my go to dentist, but all the doctors here are professional and work well as a team. The receptionist kelsey is very nice and helps me work around my busy schedule. All the dental assistants I've met were super sweet and friendly. I cannot find a bad thing to say about this place, even the parking is good. I have finally found the perfect dentist office. Highly recommended for anyone, kids and adults.

Do not come here! A horrible experience as soon as I sat in the chair. The dental hygienist did not make me feel welcome as it is my first visit. She insisted on seeing my insurance card although I gave me insurance to the receptionist. After, she made me walk to the front desk to talk to the receptionist. Once the receptionist confirmed and told her that my insurance fully covers everything. We proceed to the back. The technology is not updated and she blamed me for any issue with the x- rays. I am 27 years old and never in my life have it been this hard to do my x-ray. She was not patient and seem like she was in a rush or didn't want to do my x-ray. I left in the middle of the x-rays because this treatment should not be tolerated. She did not let me tell my side of the story to the receptionist. She also refused to give me my mask back. It was a headache and completely waste of time.

I have some alot of problems with my teeth. I came to Lux expecting to hear that there is nothing that can be done. I expected to maybe be offered implants. Instead I was meet with a dentist with so much enthusiasm and a plan i never thought possible. Never before have I been excited about going to the dentist but Dr. Abe is amazing at what he does. Its obvious how hard he is working to give me back my smile. Says he is going to do magic and I actually believe him.

I had a 10AM Appointment for an emergency cavity this morning at Feb. 2, 2021. I was assured before coming that all COVID-19 protocols were being followed to the T with all staff in complete PPE. Yet this morning, I was walked into my exam room and then told to take off my mask for the dentist, who wasn't even ready for me yet and nowhere to be seen. I sat in the chair maskless waiting for the dentists but after two minutes and no dentist, I put my mask back on. **I shouldn't have been asked to remove my mask until the dentist was in the room.** THEN, as I'm waiting for the dentist to come into my exam room, a dental hygienist waltzes by my exam room MASKLESS. Thankfully **I followed COVID19 protocols and my own good sense and had my mask back on when this happened. Lux Dental has senselessly put me at risk of COVID-19 exposure. They have been reported to the Cambridge Health Department, Inspections Department and to the Cambridge City Manager and Massachusetts Dental Society.

Crown was not re-seated well, and developed a cavity underneath three years later that is affecting neighboring teeth. I brush twice daily and floss, and have not developed any other new cavities during that time.

-- UPDATE -- I'm very annoyed with Lux Dental because they are still not resolving a collections claim from this ONE check up I had done. My credit score has taken a hit due to this and they are being extremely unresponsive in resolving this, even 5 years later. I'm trying to get this resolved since I had insurance and was told this would not be charged to me, but I have a collections claim out to me for $450 for a basic cleaning. This is ridiculous and have no idea why management has not helped resolve this. I would avoid this office like the plague, they're known to scam their patients - just read Yelp. These Google Reviews are very suspicious to me, they do not deserve their ratings they have. -- from 2015 visit -- Had a great experience at Lux Dental! Just went in for a basic cleaning procedure and check-up and the service was very quick. Nothing is worse than sitting in a dentist office waiting for your appointment, but my appointment was right on time and I was in and out before I knew it. My dentist was very friendly and for a dentist appointment, I actually enjoyed it!
