Dr. Luis A. Cueva, Jr. was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico where he also received his dental doctorate degree. Because of a strong interest in orofacial pain disorders and a desire to help others, he went on to complete a fellowship in orofacial pain at UCLA Medical School. This additional training focused on head and neck, jaw and TMJ pain. He has done clinical research in these areas and has co-authored articles on headache and myofacial pain.
Dr. Cueva is an active member of The American Dental Association, The American Headache Society, The American Academy of Orofacial Pain, The American Pain Society and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Orofacial Pain. His practice has been limited to TMJ Disorders and Orofacial Pain management since 1988. Dr. Cueva is also a member of a pain specialists group that has a satellite office in Yuma, Arizona where he travels to see patients once a month.
On a personal note, Dr. Cueva comes from a large family of six brothers and sisters. Family and community are important to the Cuevas and he and his wife Nora devote much of their time attending their two sons different sporting activities at school, as well as spending time with their relatives abroad. When he is not busy with family, Dr. Cueva spend time volunteering in community activities as a member of the Conquistadores and serves on the St. Josephs School Foundation. When he finds any additional leisure time, you will most likely see him on a golf course somewhere.

I saw Dr. Cueva for the first time today and I couldn't feel more hopeful. He was amazing! He took his time to explain things to me, he listened to me and was the first doctor in a long time to really make me feel heard. I have had jaw pain, clicking, grinding and clenching for years. I highly recommend him and his staff who were also extremely kind and attentive. He is worth the wait to get in to see him.

My mother and I both have had jaw issues due to a car accident. This caused pain, head aches and teeth grinding. I couldn't ask for a better doctor. I've been working with Dr.Cueva and noticed a huge difference in my sleep due to my mouth guard. Just a month of wearing it and no head aches, teeth pain or jaw clicking. Couldn't be happier.

I was referred to this doctor for my son who needed to be looked at for TMJ clicking jaw pain. They even set up the appointment. I got there and they wouldn't take my son because of our military Tricare insurance. Many physicians in town are not officially contracted with Tricare --and I understand why to some degree. Never-the-less, some of those non-contracted docs will still allow themselves to be referred out by a tricare pcm --but not this one. Really bad optics doc --in a town with so many active/retired G.I.s!

I called on a Fri to schedule an apt for my daughter as soon as possible due to severe pain. They seemed accommodating by finding a Tues apt. I was asked to complete a new patient profile online. We showed up 15 mins early for the scheduled time and informed the apt was cancelled. They said the reason being because I did not complete the online profile. I offered to complete on my phone but they said it takes 40 mins to complete and already scheduled someone to take the apt time. Fair but to not give a call to inform of cancelation is poor service. I took a 1/2 day of work off and lost a 1/2 of childcare costs due to their poor communication. When asked why they wouldn't call to inform of apt being cancelled the lady said she wouldn't answer because she didn't want to argue. I explained I was just trying to understand why I wasn't informed. She said because I had just scheduled the apt on Fri didn't have to call me. She said she asked the Dr about cancelling and he didn't tell her to call so she didn't. Very dismissive and zero empathy. I would not recommend for new patients.

Dr. Cueva and his staff are extremely professional, friendly and do everything they can to alleviate your pain. I have seen other pain specialists and Dr. Cueva is definitely the best I have ever seen. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but you can see he really cares about his patients. I highly recommend seeing him if you suffer from orofacial pain.

Be warned! Dr. Cueva and his staff are nice and pleasant but like a snake, they will lull you with their niceness and before you know it, you'll be paying $500 before you've made a decision to move forward with what they offer. I'll never go back here again and will tell everyone I know there are a lot of other dentists out there, avoid this one!

I had jaw pain for 9 years until I went to this office. Other dentists ignored my complaints or offered ineffective or even harmful solutions. The staff are wonderful people and Dr. Cueva helped me learn about my health from a multidisciplinary perpective unlike any other. True, it's not cheap but no medicine is. If you want someone actually brilliant to help you, go here.

I have been seeing Dr. Cueva. Yes everyone in the office has been very professional and helpful. He has NEVER tried to oversell me on any procedure etc. He is NOT a snake!!
