Dr. John S. Horchos is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and completed his residency specializing in pediatric dentistry at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. He was named chief resident in his second year. He is a board certified diplomate specializing in pediatric dentistry and special needs patients. He graduated with a bachelors of science in biology from the University of Scranton and is originally from Waverly, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Horchos has been practicing pediatric dentistry for more than 20 years. Prior to Lower Merion Pediatric Dentistry, he practiced most recently in Center City Philadelphia and Elkins Park and has taught at both the University of Pennsylvania and Temple's Kornberg School of Dentistry. He served as associate clinical professor of pediatric dentistry.
He makes his home in Bala Cynwyd with his wife, Cara, his two young daughters and their shih tzu, Alex the wonder dog. Dr. Horchos enjoys gardening, drawing and cooking with his daughters. He is also a long distance runner and has completed five marathons.

Hi my name is Nicole and I have been working with Lower Merion Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry for 15 years. I am primarily a front desk receptionist however there are many jobs in the office I am able to undertake! I have 2 beautiful boys who are very much involved in baseball and to say they love baseball is an understatement! Anytime we can get to a Phillies game that's usually where you can find us. I enjoy working out and keeping in shape but my passion is running! One of my favorite runs to participate in is the Broad Street Run! In my free time I enjoy being with my family and friends and being active in my community!
My name is Nicole. I am a 2011 graduate of Montgomery County Community Colleges Dental Hygiene program, and I still continue to love and grow with the hygiene profession. My husband Michael and I married in 2012 and are blessed to have welcomed two beautiful twin girls. Becoming a mother has been my greatest accomplishment and I look forward to watching my girls grow and learn new things every day. I enjoy taking family walks with our dogs, Mia (Pug) and Charlie (Boxer), cleaning my house, and experimenting in the kitchen. I am honored to be a part of such an amazing work family and look forward to continuing to grow with all my patients.
Your childs first experiences with the dentist should be as comfortable and relaxed as possible to establish a lifetime of positive associations. Wed like to tell you a little more about how we accomplish that at Lower Merion Pediatric Dentistry. Pediatric dentists have two additional years of training to specialize in the unique treatment needs of children. We are NOT trying to be the biggest practice, getting as many patients in and out the door as rapidly as possible, but we DO provide the most technologically advanced treatment in a warm and friendly environment. Dr. Horchos likes to refer to our office as the little practice that could. We might be small, but our friendly, positive attitude makes us mighty!
Several of our staff have been with the practice for many years and take special pride in the relationships they have built. We are a boutique practice, and we want to get to know our patients and talk to them on their level, providing the most positive experience that we can for each patient. We take the time to establish rapport and answer questions. What could be more important, particularly when dental examinations and treatment are still new to your child?

Amazing office. Great, patient doctor, very pleasant staff. I took three young kids and everything went smoothly. I am thrilled to have found a practice that truly cares about the health of our kids. Highly recommend!

My wife took my daughter here and Dr. H was able to save her teeth from being pulled out which is amazing. I took my son to another dentist that was pushing to removed all four of his front teeth for removal but when we came to Dr.H he was able to fixed all four of my son teeth, removing the cavities and filling them to restoration. Can't explain enough how awesome this practice is. The kids actually like going now. Thank you.

Dr Horchos is extremely condescending and was very impatient. He seemed very irritated with my 4 year old because he was anxious and scared about having his procedure done. Said things to my son like "there's no reason for you to act like this." It's my opinion that a 4 year old has every right to be afraid and anxious about a stranger strapping them to a bed and putting a mask over their face. At the end of his procedure he told my son to put his thumb in his mouth to shut him up (because he continued to cry) which is something my husband and I have been trying to encourage him to stop doing. To make matters worse I was given a $200 bill on our way out the door and notified that they are out of network with my insurance provider, which I should have been told before the services were provided. If your child is anxious or afraid of the dentist or tends to cry, I would not go here for services. I'm a registered nurse and I work with children daily in healthcare, he should treat other peoples kids the way he would want his to be treated. It was a nightmare.

This is the kindest, most child-focused dentist you could possibly ask for. The entire team takes their time to make my child comfortable, smiling and healthy. Everything is clealy communicated, they are fantastic liasons with our insurance, and my child actually looks forward to going to the dentist! You can not ask for anything more, and I honestly would recommend this practice to any and every caring parent.

We are thrilled to have found this practice. Everyone we encountered was kind and professional. The office is well-kept and very child friendly. Dr. Horchos was incredibly calm and patient with our children. He made a point to explain his recommendations to both parents which we appreciated. My daughter already asked when she can visit again (apparently 6 months is too long to wait as she loved Dr. Horchos)! Our whole family would highly recommend this office. Thank you for taking great care of our kids!

Dr. Horchos is amazing. He was super great with my daughter and super patience. He was very through and explain everything before proceeding to do anything. Staffs are friendly from the front desk to the assistants. Office is nice and clean, also super kid friendly. Would highly recommend this office for any pediactric dentistry care.

I didn't know a dentist appointment could be like this. I was so nervous about taking my toddler to his first dental appointment, but I didn't need to be. Dr Horchos and his team were amazing. First, the environment: it's very kid friendly with toys and books in the waiting room, interesting pictures and fun items in the patient room, and a surprise at the end I won't spoil :-) Second, the appointment: Dr. Horchos took the time to show my son all the dentistry tools before the exam, and my kid even got to squirt that little air/water gun they use. Dr Horchos educated us using fun props, and dispelled some myths for me. He spoke slowly enough for my son to understand, but the entire appointment went by fast. I am so happy we went here for my toddler's first dentist appointment and I know my son is going to be excited to go back in the future. Thank you, LMP!

My boys love going to Dr. Horchas. He makes each visit educational and fun for the boys and strikes a nice balance between catering to making the kids feel comfortable and explaining changes, developments, or any issues to parents. My little one asked me if we could go back tomorrow after our last visit. Highly recommend!

My four year old was so excited to go to the dentist. He was asking from the moment he woke up how much longer until the dentist. Dr Horchos is wonderful with the kids and somehow makes the dentist!

I can't say enough about this Dr and his team. My three kids LOVE coming to the dentist. The are kind, caring, they explain about food and how to take care of the teeth in the funniest and easiest way for kids. They take the time to do their job with passion and professionalism. Office is neat and sparkling clean, they are respectful of my time. They even check with the insurance for coverage before doing any procedure. Bring your kids here and give you and them a treat. We love this practice for our little ones and go there even when is out of network for us. Everyone there is patient, funny and very nurturing to our children and they always look forward to going to their appointments. The doctor gives two coins to each for them to use in their "surprise machine", in addition to picking a toy from the treasure box and a goodie bag. They love that!

Always a great experience for my kids check-ups and cleaning. Dr. Horchos is very knowledgeable, makes appointments fun, and educational so it's never scary. My daughter and son actually ask when they have to go because they like it so much. I would definitely recommend the practice to other families looking for a fantastic pediatric dentist!
