Drs. Harold Taylor and Robert Bob Adams had a vision for a dental practice over fifty years ago that was very progressive for the times, as the exact same facility is being used today in a more modern and functional way.
Drs. Taylor and Adams took a leap of faith on the Churchland Boulevard site as their practice was essentially in the middle of nowhere. The Sterling Point and Green Acres neighborhoods were still being developed back then, but they sensed future growth and development. Their office featured an integrated waiting room, multiple dental operatory anda separate reading room for kids, which for this time was unheard of.
In 1963, their third partner, Dr. Samuel Bisese, was brought on to expand the dental needs of Portsmouth, Virginia. Over the next decade, their Churchland practice continued to grow and serve the dental needs of folks from all over Hampton Roads. Dr. James Jim Kail joined the group in 1975, followed by Dr. Walter Cox being added in 1976.
The partnership of Drs. Bisese, Kail and Cox was a staple dental practice in Churchland for 30 years. After a fulfilling career, Dr. Bisese retired in 2002. Drs. Kail and Cox followed him into retirement a decade later in January of 2013.
On December 10, 2012, Drs. Eric B. Lovell and Mary Mim Lovell purchased the practice of Drs. Cox and Kail. They returned to Portsmouth after practicing dentistry in Charlottesville for seven years. They love serving the Tidewater community and are grateful to continue the dental legacy of Drs. Adams, Taylor, Bisese, Kail and Cox here at 5717 Churchland Boulevard.

Staff is professional. I'm always seen on time. Hygienist that I've seen the last two times is amazing. Dentist is great. No billing & insurance issues. Glad I found them.

Dr.Mim Lovell is awesome. She has a great personality and she's very thorough with everything she does. Their dental hygienist are great too. I saw Lindsay and she did a fantastic job cleaning my teeth and removing the stains. I Love this practice!!

I'm so glad that I discovered this office because Courtney at the front desk is simply awesome! She was extremely helpful over the phone helping me get things situated with my "exclusive" insurance and new patient information. When it came time for my appointment, she was even more pleasant in person and I really appreciated that. Her friendliness is sincere and it shows. I saw Dr. Mim and she was not only gentle and informative regarding my situation but very personable as well. We ended up having an enjoyable conversation about the joys of raising young men! (Toys, reading,TASASAT, etc.) The other staff I interacted with were friendly as well (Megan, Tina, Brandy). This will be my new dentist going forward and I would reccomend them to anyone.

Lost my long time dentist Dr. Cahoon to retirement. Was recommended to the Lovell Family Dentistry by Dr. Cahoon. The Lovell Family Dentistry is amazing. Small family buisness with amazing staff and service. For those who have fear of dental work done, this place will make you feel at easy.

Very professional and knowledgeable Dentists. I am happy to recommend them. We moved across to Virginia Beach and drive 40 minutes to see Doctor Lovell. They book up so make your appointment in advance. Five star Dental practice !!

Doc (Eric) discussed my concerns with me and provided options for treatment. Overall great experience, glad I tried this place! Update after 2 years: I've moved to Norfolk and still travel to this office every 6 months. I love the service & treatment. Gentle cleanings and a proactive but not alarmist approach to interventions. Love this dentist!

If I could choos No Stars I would. The office staff is beyond incompetent, rude and down-right unprofessional. I will never deal with this people again. When is it ok for office staff to make financial decisions on my behalf???
