Our practice has been serving the greater Louisa community for more than 30 years. Originally founded by Dr. John Hodge in Mineral, it was acquired by Drs. Meyer and Lloyd in 1998. A few years later, they relocated to our current location. Formerly a flower shop, the building required an addition, quite a bit of landscaping, major physical renovations and a complete plumbing and electrical overhaul. After all the hard work, the move has proven to be an overwhelming success. Our patients have testified time and again that our office is one of the most welcoming and comfortable dental offices they have ever visited.

At the start of 2007, Dr. Williams became the owner of the practice and he retained the services of Drs. Lloyd and Meyer as they slowed down in anticipation of retirement. Drs. Lloyd and Meyer were comfortable allowing Dr. Williams to take over their practice because they recognized in his character that he would run the practice with integrity and a commitment to excellence. Since acquiring the practice, Dr. Williams has worked diligently to earn the trust of his patients. Dr. Williams vision for the practice is focused on providing the highest quality dentistry while nurturing relationships with his staff and patients. At the end of the day, these are the things that matter to him.

We truly believe in treating people the way we would want to be treated, both in terms of congeniality and treatment considerations.

This commitment to our patients has earned us a great deal of trust. People know when we look them in the eye and give them our advice and recommendations that we would make the same diagnostic decisions for a member of our own family. Then, when it is time to complete the treatment, our patients are able to relax with the knowledge that their mouth is in the hands of a skilled professional. We have devoted a great amount of time and resources to the development of our skills. Louisa is located 35 to 45 minutes from the nearest dental specialists, so we feel it is our obligation to the community to be able to provide as broad a spectrum of services as possible. In addition to everyday dental treatments, we are skilled at root canals, dental implant placement, conscious sedation, TMJ disorder treatment and extracting teeth. We have worked very hard to ensure that you will not find a more full service dental office anywhere.

When I was growing up, my dad repeatedly told me, a job worth doing, is worth doing right. As a dentist, today this advice remains ever-present and fundamentally impacts how I treat each patient. Each person I see in my chair presents a unique situation and it is my duty to give them the best diagnosis and treatment I possibly can.

So, what is my approach to accomplish this? First I need to have the tools. It begins with education and my excellent training in dental school from Virginia Commonwealth University is only the tip of the iceberg. I have dedicated myself to a rigorous continuing education schedule averaging over 100 hours per year. I have gained advanced training in implant placement and restoration, dental patient sedation and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder treatment to name just a part of my recent curriculum. Additionally, I spend a great amount of my off-time reading journals, discussing dentistry with my colleagues and participating in on-line dental discussion groups.

As important as knowledge and skill are in diagnosis and treatment, it is absolutely essential that they are complemented by great focus, effort and enthusiasm. I care a great deal about my patients and the only way I can sleep at night is if I have a satisfied mind from knowing that I did indeed give my best effort.

Since the beginning of modern dentistry, things havent changed much with regard to how dentists care for their patients. Sure, the technology and materials have been drastically updated and dentists are more knowledgeable about treating patients, but the interaction between dentist and patient has been largely unchanged. Typically, when you visit the dentist, he or she tells you what the problems are and recommends treatment.

At Louisa Comprehensive Dental, we are a patient-centered practice. We arent here to provide care solely based on what we think is best. Were here to help our patients achieve theoptimal outcome. The first part of that is listening, getting to know our patientsand understanding what they want.

While we find great satisfaction in patients following though and making good choices for their dental health, we want our patientsto feel like they are entering a process where we are going to work with them and help them fully understand what is going on inside their mouths.

Once we have a full understanding of what their needs and desires are, we work to introduce our patientsto the various options that are available for their situation.We explain what are some of the problems right now and what are some of the problems that might present themselves down the road.

Only once a patient feels it is important to address theproblems we discuss, the next step is providing solutions to those problems. We give them a choice after they have all of the information. This process iscalled co-discovery.The best dental care is provided only when the patient is a part of the process.
