From a very young age, Dr. Christy Cowell found a keen interest in dentistry in part from watching her mom who had worked as a Dental Therapist and ran a successful small business in her hometown of Toronto, Canada.
That interest, along with her passion for helping people, led Dr. Cowell to the highly-regarded Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Doctorate in Dental Medicine. After spending the early part of her career in Boston, Dr. Cowell relocated to Northern Virginia where she began sowing her roots in Leesburg. 5 years after joining the Loudoun Dental Smiles team, Dr. Cowell purchased the practice from Dr. Sandy Varney, and she has worked diligently ever since to give her patients the best dental experience Loudoun County has to offer. In her free time, Dr. Cowell enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 young sons and their rescue pup, Dempsey. She loves traveling and all sorts of creative activities.
Dr. Karrie Howard is a native to northern Virginia. She is a graduate of Emory University and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.
The thing that Dr. Howard enjoys most about dentistry is seeing the change she can make in peoples lives when treating both adults and children. She is a member of the Northern Virginia Dental Association as well as a member of the American Dental Association.
When not in the office, Dr. Howard is a mom to three wonderful children and two dogs and enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, as well as water activities. You will see her and her husband out on the fields coaching and cheering on their children most weekends.
Dr. Wajiha Amer was born and raised in Pakistan and is the daughter of a marine engineer and a biochemist. She earned her Bachelors in Dental Surgery in 2009 with several distinctions and ranked in the top three of her graduating class, after which she worked in private practice for a few years.
In 2014, she decided to further her education by attending Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) with High Honors in 2016. While in Boston, she fell in love with the city but eventually decided to make Northern Virginia her home.
She believes in furthering her education by taking continuing education courses and is a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, and Northern Virginia Dental Association.

Dr. Cowell is the epitome of a gifted and professional dentist: she is extraordinarily talented in all she does. She is professional, compassionate, and a great listener. Dr. Cowell takes her time with her patients and she nurtures relationships with her warm and beautiful smile. Patients fully trust her expertise. She is a gift to anyone who interacts with her - she is truly a blessing. Her entire office staff is also great and they take their time to listen to your needs. Laura is a superb hygienist. Loudoun Dental smiles never disappoints! Our family has been going to this practice since 2014, and have always had an excellent experience. The doctors are gentle, kind and knowledgeable. I normally see Dr Howard but also have seen Dr Cowell and Dr Amir. In addition, the front desk and billing staff are extremely helpful (shout out to Jade!) and always very responsive. Lastly, Laura (hygenist) is wonderful! 5 stars for Loudoun Dental Smiles!

I love coming to the dentist. Is that weird? I mean Loudoun Dental Smiles is what I've been looking for forever. The hygienist, Emely, who worked on my teeth today was so friendly and careful. She let me know what she was doing and continuously asked if I was okay or if anything hurt while she worked on me. Her and Dana were the two hygienists that have worked on my teeth and let me tell you...these ladies are great. I'm a woman of color and actually looked for an office that had women of color employed there...I found the best place. Nothing short of great client services. Thank you!!
