I graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry David B. Kriser Dental Center in 2001, with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS). I am licensed in both Ontario, Canada, as well as in California, USA. My focus is on clinical dentistry including the use of prosthodontics and oral implantology. I am the recipient of professional awards such as the Waterpik Prosthodontic Award.

I can tell you with absolute confidence, the moment I knew I wanted to be a dentist. I was in Dr.Neurons dental chair and I remember clearly thinking, I want to be a dentist when I grow up. Dentistry is not as dangerous as being a police officer, or as exciting as fighting fires, or as lucrative as an investment banker, but it is my true passion.

As stated, my love for dentistry started very simply in a small dental office located in the very small town of Bracebridge, Ontario. I had a very simple upbringing, with no television and no electronics, just my ice skates and a frozen pond. Dentistry was always in my mind, but my journey to being a dentist was a difficult road that was almost derailed twice! After high school, I entered the University of Toronto and majored in Pharmacology. Let me tell you, I had A LOT OF fun while studying at U of T. I was on the rowing team all 4 years and juggled sports with a strenuous academic schedule. While in school, my dad opened up his own dental laboratory. I spent many hours helping him and learning about the technical aspects of dentistry from a lab technician. This further cemented my passion for dentistry.

Subsequently, I was accepted to NYU College of dentistry in 1997 and I remember before I left, one of my dads dental contacts told me I would never be a successful dentist, because I was too unfocused. Well, I proved him wrong. I spent many hours tutoring other dental students in gross anatomy, biochemistry, and histology and also managed to graduate with high honors. My free time was spent observing and learning complex surgical cases. To this day, I still love surgery, from placing implants to performing sinus augmentations to doing Teeth in a Day surgical procedures. If I wasnt doing dentistry, Id be teaching dentistry. I love seeing the light bulb moment on a team members face when they comprehend a concept Im conveying. To impart the knowledge that Ive learned through the years to a young doctor and watch them grow into an amazing practitioner is very rewarding. I am proud to say that my wife and I have one child (out of 4) that aspires to be a dentist. Once she graduates dental school, I hope to impart to her all that I've learned through the years. My other children will forge a different path, as an investment banker, a grade schoolteacher, and a famous gymnast. I couldnt be prouder of them as well! I would hazard a guess that the majority of the kids in the world do not aspire to be a dentist when they grow up. Who wants to work with a drill in a small, dark opening all day? Most people have an intense fear of being in the dental chair, let alone wanting to discuss teeth all day! Dentistry as a career path was the furthest thought from my mind when I was in high school and university.

As an immigrant to America, my parents always stressed education and wanted my siblings and me to choose medicine. Specifically, my parents wanted me to become an OBGYN. Having fled our war torn country in 1975 with nothing but our clothes, my parents felt medicine was a way out of poverty. To that end, I majored in Biology at the University of California, Irvine and almost took the entrance exam into medical school. However, I loved psychology and at the last minute, decided to double major in psychology and biology. You see, I wanted to talk to people. People fascinated me. Every single person is unique and has their own story. Unfortunately, my parents did not think psychology would pay my bills. So here I was, graduating from UCI in 1996, and not knowing my next step until a friend suggested dental school. I started shadowing a dentist and observed his interactions with his patients over the next 6 months. I interviewed at NYU College of dentistry, and the rest is history!

Well, there are some interesting tidbits that happened along the way. I met my amazing husband Dr. Leif Lberg at NYU. He came from Canada, I came from California, and we fell in love in New York City. We just celebrated our 20-year anniversary, and I feel so lucky to have married the love of my life. We have 4 children- Liam, Aydenne, Emerson, and Everly. Liam is studying Economics at UCSB, Aydenne is a senior in high school, and our youngest two children are still in elementary school. You can imagine, life is a bit hectic in the Lberg household! Juggling their activities and work has been challenging but oh so rewarding.

After dropping the kids off at school, I enter the office and immediately am immersed in my passion. Dentistry is not my passion, people are. I love talking to patients and finding out their story. For me, creating a relationship that lasts through the years is what I find rewarding in dentistry. Learning about how my patient fell in love with his wife, or the birth of a child, or the pet they rescued, or the dream vacation they are about to embark on is what I find interesting. This passion for people then translates into my dental care for them. I strive to be clinically meticulous and compassionate. I want my patients to be comfortable and feel relaxed while under my care. Why dentistry? A question that was asked of me when I applied for dental school and by my friends and family. To be honest, dentistry was not my first choice. It actually was not even on the radar. Throughout my schooling, I thought my calling was a career in medicine. To everyone who asked what I wanted to be, I always responded that I wanted to become a top-notch surgeon, helping to save peoples lives. Needless to say, that never transpired. I had set myself up to apply to medical school, but a mentor of mine, a highly regarded cosmetic dentist in Newport Beach, showed me how fulfilling dentistry can be and the joy in giving people their confidence to smile again. From being able to build long lasting patient-doctor relationships, to working with your hands creating works of sculpture for my patients and giving them a smile, they can be proud of, I knew I had found the perfect job!

After attending University of California, Irvine for my undergraduate I wanted to explore a different part of this great state and set my sights on beautiful San Francisco. I attended the prestigious University of California, San Francisco to receive my dental training, but knew that I would always return back to sunny southern California upon graduation. The oldest of three kids of immigrant parents, I always wanted to make my parents proud and also be a good role model for my younger siblings. My younger brother is currently in pharmacy school and my younger sister will be attending dental school. In my free time, I love snowboarding, swimming, traveling, working out, and motorsports. I also recently got engaged to my beautiful fiance, Tiffany, with whom I cannot wait to create beautiful memories with!

When I first began my journey becoming a dentist, I would have never imagined that I had just found my perfect career. At the time, I could never point to a single event or moment that had inspired me to pursue this type of work. I was just someone who spent his time learning the piano and building LEGOs as a kid, more interested in staying active and playing sports with friends than sitting still for hours at a time. It was only until I spent the next few years in Cleveland, OH, receiving my dental training, that I had discovered my new passion for the art of dentistry. From utilizing the hand skills, I had been honing since childhood, to pursuing perfection through careful technique and lifelong training, I consider myself lucky to be in the profession that is just right for me.

But what I appreciate the most from dentistry is how I can use the talents I've been given to serve others. I never fully appreciated the power of oral health until I witnessed it within my own family. To see them avoid eating certain foods at family gatherings, or not wanting to smile, or talk, or even take family photos was heartbreaking. Born and raised in Southern California, I still enjoy staying active outside the office playing basketball and snowboarding. In addition, I find that sitting down to the piano, and playing Bach or different movie scores allows me to relax. The many years of lessons and practice culminated in me achieving my Certificate of Merit. If Im not on the piano, you can usually find me on the basketball courts, especially when my older brother is in town. He is an active member of the US Navy, currently stationed in Japan. I am so proud of the service hes given to our country. Weve both found different career paths but remain a close-knit family. Because we dont see each other often, it makes those family gatherings that much sweeter.

I have been working in the dental field for multiple years. To me, the most rewarding aspect of the job is seeing patients' confidence increase after their treatment. My favorite part about Lberg Dental Center is being able to learn and expand my knowledge about implant surgery and orthodontics. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and trying out new coffee shops. I am currently attending California State University, Long Beach, and majoring in Communications and Entrepreneurship. I plan on transferring to USC to receive my Masters of Dispute Resolution.

I joined Lberg Dental Center with the goal of pursuing a dental hygiene career. I am attending Cypress College to complete my prerequisites. When I'm not at work or class, I'm at home with my three-year-old, hiking and exploring.

I have been a patient of Dr. Lbergs for the past four years. I am currently majoring in Business Administration at Irvine Valley College and completing my prerequisites to transfer to Vanguard University in Costa Mesa to expand my educational goals. I was an intern at Lberg Dental Center before joining our Laguna Hills dental team. I always felt the need to help people. When I completed my dental assisting courses at UEI College, I realized my purpose was to help improve the experience people have when going to the dentist. I pride myself on providing exceptional care and comfort to our patients. I enjoy learning the latest techniques from Dr. Lberg and enjoy all aspects of dentistry. I prefer to assist in surgical cases because it allows me to see transformations that many would think are impossible. I was a patient of Dr. Lberg. As a patient, I became interested in the dental field and soon completed my dental assistant school at UEI. I completed my dental assistant internship hours at Lberg Dental Center. Seeing how much Dr. Lberg helps others made me become more interested in pursuing my career as a dentist. I earned my Bachelors of Science in dental hygiene from West Coast University with honors. I have nine years of experience in the dental field as a Registered Dental Assistant and Registered Dental Hygienist.
