Although I have spent most of my life in Iowa, I have always been drawn to the beautiful and friendly state of Minnesota. I grew up in Cedar Rapids, and then graduated from Luther college before doing dental school at the University of Iowa. While at college, I was a bridesmaid in a friends wedding, and I really hit it off with the groomsman I was paired up with. That groomsman, Nathan, is now my husband of almost 3 years! Nathan is from Newport, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities.
What drew me to Litchfield was the welcoming people and sense of community. Litchfield Family Dental stands out as a practice of high quality care and service. Dr. Swenson and the rest of the team have an obvious relationship and trust with their patients that I look forward to sharing.
What I love about dentistry is making patients feel comfortable in the dental chair, and confident in their healthy smile. I love getting to meet patients of all ages and backgrounds. Nathan and I are very excited to get involved and to become members of the Litchfield community!
I grew up in Ramsey, MN graduating from Anoka High School in 2004. After graduating college from the University of Wisconsin Stout, my wife and I moved out to Colorado for a change of scenery. After working for a few years, I was drawn into dentistry and graduated from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.
I feel extremely lucky to have found Litchfield Family Dental and been mentored by Dr. Jim Haugo and Dr. Mike Solbrack. They have set the bar high for dentistry in Litchfield, and I will continue their tradition of treating people fairly and with kindness. I carry a very similar philosophy of practice, where I believe its my job to inform you of your dental health and different treatment options, and its your decision to decide how to move forward. When you are in need of treatment, I aim to provide deliberate, comfortable and skilled service that will help you feel treated like family. My favorite part of dentistry is the people connected to the teeth, and the captive audience for my wonderful jokes!
My wife, Kayla, and I live in Litchfield with our 4 children; Sully, Laurel, Otto and Abe. Kayla is a co-founder of a non-profit indoor playpark called Rise + Roam, right next door to our dental office. You can check it out at https://www.riseandroamplay.com/ In the rare moment we arent wrangling our kiddos, we enjoy spending time with family and friends, working on projects at the house and getting out to the lake for beach time and fishing.
After serving the Litchfield and the surrounding communities for over 38 years, Dr. Jim Haugo entered into retirement in 2017. Recently, Dr. Mike Solbrack has also joined Dr. Haugo among the retired ranks. Those who were fortunate enough to work with them or receive care from them will always remember their big heart for other people, willingness to stop everything and help someone in need, and the way they finished their careers well. We all miss Jim and Mike, but are so happy they are able to enjoy more time with their wonderful families and go on many new adventures. If you see Dr. Jim or Dr. Mike around town, be sure to say hi and thank them for all they have done for this community!

Dr. Ryan takes such intentional care with his patients. He is patient, caring, and shows such precision with every aspect of dental care. He isn't afraid to share his opinion, and he is so flexible with the patient's desires for dental care. The staff is sooooo friendly and attentive to the patients! If you are looking for a relatively stress free dental experience, make the call to Litchfield Family Dental! They are such a gift to our community!

After moving away from my hometown when I was 19 years old, I didn't keep up with a dentist for many years due to my dental anxiety. I was weary of going to another dentist again, especially being further out than I've ever been, but I couldn't deal with the pain in my teeth anymore and decided to go here. I felt like I was home. Everyone was professional and pleasant. I first saw Dr. Ryan who was gentle and went at a slow pace to ease my nerves. He did a great job as none of my teeth that had cavities hurt anymore and haven't since! I even got to talk to him and his assistant about me wanting to become a dental assistant. We had some good laughs and the appointment took no time at all. Months later, I was working as a dental assistant at Aspen Dental in Hutchinson while going to school. A temporary dentist there had messed up a filling I had done and claimed to see nothing wrong with it when I asked her to check it out. Since the pain was increasing everyday (although it seemed like it was every hour), I decided to get a 2nd opinion at Litchfield Family Dental. Dr. Ryan was able to see me sooner than I expected. He did the same tests (but wasn't as rough as the temporary dentist at Aspen was) and told me he felt like I had a high pulp (nerve of the tooth) as well as an improperly bonded filling which means that saliva and other things could slip under the filling, causing pain and potentially a future infection. He said that he could fix it, but recommended I have the dentist that did this fix it. This shows that they don't care about putting another dollar in their pocket. They are about the care of the patient. It really felt like family. I wasn't able to get my tooth fixed with Aspen so I called back to make an appointment ASAP. Dr. Ryan wasn't available, but Dr. Abby was. She checked out the tooth before redoing the filling and said that because the pulp is high, I could need a root canal later on if this doesn't resolve the issue. She was very gentle and professional. It's rare that I like ONE dentist, but I thoroughly enjoyed BOTH at this office!

Dr. Ryan Swenson is the most amazing dentist. If you have anxiety about the dentist or know anyone that does. I highly recommend this as your next place to visit. They are most accommodating.

They showed me how much they really care for their patients here and I don't know how I could ever go anywhere else after an experience like that!

Was really worried about going to get my tooth looked at. From the moment I entered the building until I left I felt welcomed and cared for. Dr. Ryan Swenson completely explained my options and reccomondations. Definitely will go back for my dental work!

Was great the first time, last two times they were very short and impersonal like we were an inconvenience. Was told we might have to reschedule our appointments we took time off for because they were running behind so we were expected to adjust. The older one gets snippy if he asks the hygienist questions about your tooth history and she doesn't know and you answer or ask simple questions like "I have to talk this over before I make any big repairs." Dental work is too costly to be made to feel like we're a waste of time.
