I was born in Charlotte, NC in July of 1963. I grew up in Raleigh, NC and graduated from Sanderson High School. My passion then was swimming competitively for a Raleigh swim team. I then attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I graduated with a degree in Biology, specializing in Medical Technology and began work at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, VA. After two years there and more classes, I applied and was accepted to Virginia Commonwealth Universitys Dental School Program. I spent four years there and another year of a General Practice Residency in Denver, Colorado and then I was ready to practice dentistry.
I started with a practice in Carbondale, CO with a fine doctor named Dr. Gene Covello. Life in Colorado was awesome, working, playing tennis, boating/skiing.all the cool stuff to do out west. During this time, I met my husband of now 18 years, Carl Kiehn. Then in August of 2000, we moved to Virginia to be closer to family. After working with several different practices, I decided to open my own practice in Waynesboro. This was a great decision and I plan to be here for many more years. My staff is awesome, always helping and assuring the patients that everything will be fine and to not be afraid of the dentist. Hopefully some new patients will read about us, and make the call to become part of this wonderful office.

BEST dentist you ever want to meet! She is kind, gentle, helps relax you and so confident that she makes you feel confident! I had major work done along with having anxieties - she continuously talked me off the ledge & made the experience an actual joyful one..if thats possible in a dentist office! She also went out of her way to make me my very own bite guard! There are no words to describe the care that she gives to you as a patient. Her & her staff are 100% FABULOUS!

Just experienced the most demeaning attitude from a "professional". This kind of attitude is the reason I've delayed going to the dentist for the majority of my adult life. If I could have crawled under her chair from her condescending tone and "tisking" and grunting I would have. Never have I gotten up and walked out of a Dr's office till today. At this point it will be another lifetime before I see another dentist.

Been going to Dr Tatum for over 15+ years. A very professional office that I have entrusted my whole family with. She is a doctor that is caring, has a gentle hand, and is conservative with her treatment plans. Her staff is very caring and listens to concerns. Would always recommend.

I have had a fear of dentists since childhood. My previous dentist told me to come back another day and take a Valium before wasting his time. So when someone told me about how patient and gentle Dr Tatum was I thought I would give her a try. Dr Tatum has the kindest heart for her patients and Mary goes above and beyond to make everyone feel so comfortable as soon as you enter the office. I recommended them to everyone. Been going to Dr Tatum and Mary for over 12 years now. The best dentist ever!

Dr. Tatum and her staff have been wonderful! Not only are they friendly and gentle, but they show sincere interest in their patients lives and needs. Dr. Tatum is practical in her approach and does not push for unnecessary services that I've experienced in other practices. Great work, ladies!!

I've been going to Dr. Tatum for two years now. I've always dreaded the dentist, heard about her office through word of mouth and decided to go. I'm certainly glad I did. The staff is so welcoming and friendly. Norma's cleaning tips have been so helpful and Dr. Tatum is so knowledgeable and friendly. I recently moved out of town and can easily say, Dr. Tatum is the only dentist I'll make the 90 minute trip for!

Dr. Tatums office was recommended to me and they have not disappointed. I first visited them 6 years ago after a 13 year hiatus from all dentist. Dr Tatum and her staff were welcoming and warm. I had a pleasant experience despite being very anxious. I appreciated the kind environment but I was also impressed with their expertise and efficiency in administering care. I fell in love with this practice. They listen. They are patient and readily available for help. They are not happy unless the patient is satisfied. Dr Tatum's practice is the complete package, She is wonderful and so is her staff. They are the best dentist I have been too and I hope they will handle my future needs. They came highly recommended to me and I can't speak highly enough of them.

I will not go to any dentist except Lisa Tatum. I have been a patient here 15+ years. These ladies are my family. I am from this area and have moved out of state before and if that were to happen again I would not hesitate to make the drive to see Dr. Tatum. She is extremely educated and knowledgeable.
