Dr. Mark Anderson was born and raised in the Detroit area. The tenth of 14 children, he attended Oakland University on a scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973. Dr. Anderson is also a graduate of the University of Detroit School of Dentistry, where he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1976. During this time, he attended an oral surgery residency at the University of Detroit, as well as a periodontics (gum disease) residency at Case Western Reserve University. After graduation, he moved to Genesee County to enter private practice. In 1982, Dr. Anderson completed additional training in orthodontics and is pleased to offer braces to his patients as well as many other services.
In the early 1980s, well before it was required, Dr. Anderson became one of the first dentists in the area to use gloves when treating patients. Today, his office continues to go above and beyond the current standards of infection control. In 1995, Dr. Anderson became the first dentist in Genesee County to go latex-safe. Latex, a rubber derivative used to make medical gloves, balloons, and other products, causes allergic reactions in many people. In making these and other changes, Dr. Anderson continually safeguards the health of both his patients and staff.
Throughout the years of his career, Dr. Anderson has kept current by attending additional dental sub-specialty training seminars and conferences. Because of this, he is able to offer many services to his patients, avoiding the practice of many of his colleagues who refer all but the simplest procedures to a specialist. At Dr. Andersons office, patients can have teeth extracted (including wisdom teeth), cosmetic work done, pediatric dental care, dentures made, root canal treatments, gum disease treatments, braces, and much more. Because of his commitment to keeping current by completing many hours of additional training, both in the office and in the classroom, he was awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
He holds professional affiliations with the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and Genesee District Dental Society. Dr. Andersons wife, Cheryl, joins him as his office manager. Together, they have four children, two of whom are also active in the dental field.
Dr. Lisa is the oldest daughter of Dr. Mark Anderson. She grew up (and has raised her own family) in the Flint area. Starting at age 12, she began working in her fathers dental office. After graduating from high school, she began assisting Dr. Mark full time. During this period, she helped to treat patients, prepare treatment rooms, take x-rays, and discuss treatment and payment plans with patients. Eventually, Dr. Lisa earned multiple certifications which encouraged her to return to school at the age of 30.
While continuing to work as a dental assistant, Dr. Lisa commuted to University of Michigan and Oakland University to finish her dental prerequisites. She was granted early admission to the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry due to her extensive dental assisting experience of over 20 years. While at school, Dr. Lisa maintained a high grade point average, as well as Deans List and other commendations. She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2012.
Joining the Affordable Dentistry practice, Dr. Lisa is able to bring the latest in dental advancements and techniques, while maintaining the flavor of the present dental office. She looks forward to seeing many of her old friends as well as making new ones.
