Dr. Patricia Van Kooten has been providing top-quality general and cosmetic dentistry services to Northern Californians for over two decades. Dr. Van Kootenattended Loyola University New Orleans and received her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from the University of Florida College of Dentistry. She has since furthered her education with advanced courses in full mouth reconstruction, implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontal dentistry, oral surgery, and endodontic dentistry.
Dr. Van Kooten has practiced at Lighthouse Family Dentistry forseven years. Prior to this practice, she owned one in San Carlos. Dr. Van Kooten enjoys many aspects of dentistry, finding extreme joy in seeing her patients smile transform to their desires. Dr. Van Kooten is known for her gentle touch while providing optimum dental care. While not at work, Dr. Van Kooten enjoys time with her family enjoying our beautiful Monterey Peninsula.
Melvin has been an RDA here in California since his move from New York. He is instrumental in assisting Dr. Van Kooten with daily clinical procedures, while making the patients feel comfortable and relaxed. While not a work, Melvin enjoys travel and his pets.
Ernst is Dr. Van Kootens personal assistant. He helps with the operation of Lighthouse Family Dentistry. His personal goal is to create a dental office environment that is a pleasant and inviting place to go to, with happy patients and happy staff. While not at work, Ernst enjoys spending time with his family; he also enjoys cooking.
Maribel has been in the dental profession since 1992. She started as a dental assistant in the USAF and became a registered dental hygienist in 2006. She is caring, efficient, very gentle and committed to providing high quality dental care. When not at work, she loves to spend time with family and enjoys gardening.

My dentist, Constance Newton, retired during COVID and I was terribly dismayed. I had my first appointment with Dr. Van Kooten yesterday and was most favorably impressed with her competency, thoroughness, and professionalism. Ernst at the front desk and Melvin her assistant were equally impressive. It's a pleasant and reassuring place to be and I'm looking forward to more good dental experiences there.

While it's been nearly 3 yrs. (beginning of pandemic) since I've entered a dental office, my time had come; my teeth were crying out for a cleaning in a big way! This office has always been beyond pleasant, helpful, clean, quaint, peaceful with warmth created both by the ambiance and colors and decor - soft relaxing music --- and the stellar doc and staff. The doc is gentle, careful and thorough. I feel such comfort and care when inside this office. Never in my life have I enjoyed a dental office ... this one is unique beyond measure with their delightful, caring atmosphere, with occasional appropriate light humor to boot! How often do you laugh when inside a dental office? I do in this great office! Try it, you'll be amazingly surprised that you did.

Dr Van Kooten is the best! The entire staff is extremely kind and makes you feel very comfortable and heard. She is very good at what she does, and takes time to explain things and present all treatment options. They are efficient and thorough. I also really love the feel of her office. It is very clean and peaceful. I (personally) appreciate that there are not TVs everywhere to distract you during your cleaning. The rooms are decorated with art and peaceful, relaxing imagery. The outdoor garden is also very aesthetic and brightens the ambiance inside through their window views. Additionally, although not officially a pediatric dental office, Dr Van Kooten & staff are great with kids. I have been taking my son there since he was about 4 or 5.

Great experience! I hadn't seen a dentist in quite awhile due to the pandemic, so I really needed a cleaning. Dr. Van Kooten performed a very thorough exam and cleaned my teeth better than anyone has ever done! Her assistant, Melvin, and front desk gentleman Ernst are terrific too! I am returning soon to fix some dental issues the doctor found. Very gentle and not pushy. Highly recommended! Five stars!

I have loved each time I have been here ....Everyone is so kind ....and helpful...and Drs. work is so great ...I have fallen, and damaged my front teeth ...and dr.. fixed so perfect ...and I just do not have the appropriate words to express my thoughts about Dr. and her staff ...love Faye so much ...so helpful !! Due to many moves over the years, I've had several dentists caring for my teeth. But, Dr. Van Kooten, Melvin and Fay are all exceptional in every way! In the last couple years, I've had a fairly long list of dental procedures that were needed - Dr. Van Kooten listed and ranked them in order of importance and we systematically finished up this week. Always professional, COVID safe and with only the highest of standards, Lighthouse Family Dentistry is the best dentist I've ever had the opportunity to work with.

We have been to several dentists in this area over the past years--some very good and some not so good. My wife and I are glad we have found Dr. Van Kooten when our insurance changed and we had to change our dentist. We both admire Dr. Van Kooten's expertise and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. We highly recommend this office.
