Lighthouse Family Dentistry: E. Taylor Meiser, Jr. D.D.S., P.A. - General dentist in Annapolis, MD

Our lead dentist, Dr. E. Taylor Meiser, has years of experience as a prosthodontist and general dentist. After graduating dental school, he traveled around the world, providing dental care to members of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, New Zealand Air Force, and Army, as well as civilians. He continued his education in the field after dental school, learning the best methods to restore the smile and maintain his patients oral health. Dr. Meiser has also taught and mentored fellow dentists.

At Lighthouse Family Dentistry, Dr. Meiser and his team understand that it can be difficult for some patients to visit the dentist. Some patients may have dental fear caused by a negative past experience or anxiety caused by loud noises or dental tools. For patients with severe dental fear or anxiety, we utilize localized anesthesia and dental sedation. These dental tools help relax patients so they can receive the care they need.

  • ClearCorrect: ClearCorrect utilizes invisible aligners and offers discreet and comfortable orthodontic treatment. With ClearCorrect aligners, patients can eat without dietary restrictions as well as fully brush and floss their teeth.
  • Dental Implants: Dental implants are the gold standard of dental restorations. Patients with a missing tooth can receive a single dental implant, while patients who have rows or arches of lost teeth can receive implant-supported restorations.
  • Professional Teeth Whitening: Our in-office and take-home teeth whitening treatments help remove stains from the tooth enamel. In-office whitening treatment is great for patients who want immediate results, while take-home treatment allows patients to gradually whiten their smiles in comfort. Both types of treatments are customizable to fit the needs of each individual patient.
  • CEREC: We can create dental crowns, inlays, and onlays in our office using CEREC technology. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. This technology uses CAD/CAM, or computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. Our patients can receive same-day dental crowns because we can design and create their restorations in-office.
  • CBCT: Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a modern dental x-ray that creates 3-dimensional images. With CBCT scans, our dentists can see the bone, nerve pathways, and tissues of the mouth. For example, we often use CBCT scans to help plan out orthodontic and restorative treatments.
  • Intraoral Scanners: Using handheld intraoral scanners, we are able to take digital dental impressions. Gone are the days of messy dental molds. Now our patients can feel comfortable receiving quick impressions without tasteless gels.

Lieutenant Meiser then went to San Diego for one year of General Practice Residency at Balboa Naval Hospital. He volunteered for independent isolated duty at Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean, where he also practiced general dental care. He also was a commodore of the Diego Garcia Sailing Club.

Lieutenant Commander Meiser requested Antarctica duty with Operation Deep Freeze and maintained dental health for personnel of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, New Zealand Air Force, Army, and Navy and civilian members of the National Science Foundation. He also performed emergency dental procedures on a Russian scientist and a Husky sled dog. Dr. Meiser did two separate seagoing assignments aboard the Coast Guard icebreakers, Glacier and Polar Seas. While aboard the USCGC Glacier he became a Golden Shellback, crossing the equator at the International Date Line. He deployed to all the outlying U.S. Antarctica bases, including several trips to the South Pole.

After three trips to Antarctica, Lieutenant Commander Meiser was selected for a Prosthodontic residency at the National Naval Dental Center, in Bethesda, Maryland. He was trained in providing patients with dental crowns, bridges, and dentures. After his training, he was assigned to Naval Dental Center in San Diego as a staff Prosthodontist. He mentored in the Advanced Clinical Dentistry Program and was the departmental Division Officer. Dr. Meiser was then assigned as Prosthodontist and Assistant Dental Officer aboard the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) homeported in Alameda, California. He was deployed twice to the Indian Ocean and while aboard organized and led the Carl Vinson Sailing Squadron as its Commodore.

When Dr. Meiser was promoted to Commander, he detached from the ship for duty at the Washington Navy Yard as Head of the Prosthetics Department. Commander Meisers next duty was with the Fleet Marine Force as the Prosthodontist for the 21st Dental Company, 1st FSSG, Kaneohe, Hawaii. Besides taking care of the Marines, CDR Meiser assisted the Marine Mammal Research facility in fabricating custom mouthpieces for dolphins being trained for special operations.

CDR Meiser was then assigned to the Naval Dental Center, in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as staff Prosthodontist at the Main Clinic. Later, he was transferred to the DamNeck Branch Dental Clinic where he was the Branch Prosthodontist. Then, he was assigned duty at the Washington Navy Yard as the General Dentist and Prosthodontist. Dr. Meiser then retired to private practice. Today, Dr. Meiser treats patients of all ages using his years of experience in his Annapolis dental office.

Gingivitis, also known as gum inflammation, is a common but often damaging dental problem. Gum inflammation is an early form of periodontitis or gum disease. Patients who develop gum disease often experience painful and bleeding gums, as well as gum sensitivity. Over time, periodontitis can lead to eventual tooth loss. At Lighthouse Family Dentistry, we offer periodontal disease treatment to patients in Annapolis, MD. With gum disease treatment, patients can improve their oral health and restore their smiles.

  • Scaling and Root Planing: These deep cleaning treatments are used for patients who are exhibiting more moderate symptoms of gum inflammation. Using a special dental tool, we remove plaque and tartar from and beneath the gums. We also smooth down the tooth roots to ensure that they are attached to the gums.
  • Gum Grafting: For patients with gum recession, or those who have had infected gum tissue removed, we recommend gum grafting. We may suture tissue from another part of the mouth, often the roof of the mouth, which is then secured to the gum tissue. Gum grafting restores healthy tissue to the gums.
  • Dr. E. Taylor Meiser and his team use the latest in dental technology to help patients receive high-quality care. At Lighthouse Family Dentistry, we use dental technology in order to precisely diagnose and treat patients with a variety of oral health problems. High-definition scans and images, as well as in-office modeling technology, help our patients to receive efficient treatment. Our patients can discover more about the modern dental technology that we utilize in our Annapolis, MD office on this page.

We use CEREC technology to create dental crowns, inlays, and onlays. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. We also utilize computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in tandem with CEREC. This means that we can take digital dental models of a patients teeth to create their cosmetic restoration. Many of our patients can receive customized same-day dental crowns in our office.

The 3M True Definition scanner is a great modern alternative to messy, uncomfortable dental impressions. This is a handheld, intraoral scanner that we use to take digital impressions of the teeth. We use a tablet connected to the handheld scanner to access visuals of the teeth and gums. With these visuals, we can easily create dental crowns, dental bridges, veneers, and oral appliances. We can also use these impressions to map out orthodontic treatment with ClearCorrect.

Dental Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans are used to create 3-D images of the mouth. With these modern x-rays, we are able to see a full, detailed picture of the teeth. CBCT scans are integral to treatment planning. We often use CBCT scans to plan dental restorations and implant treatment. This option also has significantly less radiation than traditional x-rays.

Miriam is so rude and very unprofessional. I went there one time to get a filling and i had to cancel the rest of my appointments because of her. Her attitude is unreal. I have never written a review about any place but i have to for this one. When i called to cancel the appointment she said "ok thanks bye" and hung up. Nothing else. So i had to call back to see if the appointment was actually canceled. When i went in for my first and only appointment, there was no one at the front desk and the employees in the back just kept saying one moment for about 20 minutes. This review is mainly about Miriam. She is just so rude.

Miriam is the nasty person I have ever encountered at a dental office. She is so unprofessional. I was never given the printout for the cost of the procedure without the implant and was never give the amount I would need to pay at the time. I was demanded to pay $250 when I arrived for my appointment and when I said I didnt have it I was turned away as patient even though I am on a antibiotic and under Dr Meisier Care. When I went outside to make a phone call and come back they locked the door and waived me away even though I had the money. Dr Meisier even waived me away as well as Miriam. Thats terrible customer service

Dr. Meiser has worked with me over 2 years on a gum recession issue which has required temporary and permanent crown replacement. He is now helping me with orthodontic retention and grinding problems. It is very helpful that he presents a plan for the long term and gets results.

The dentist and his assistant are wonderful. The "manager" is the most disrespectful person I have ever encountered in the healthcare business. She enters the billing and generates treatment plan proposals. Nothing is ever accurately input and I have had to speak with the billing specialist to correct the managers errors of falsely double billing. She continuously adds unnecessary charges to each visit and if you question anything she will get an attitude. She threw her hands in my face today and insisted that "I shouldn't be a patient and they shouldn't be treating me and that I need to leave." She insisted that I leave after I am already sitting in the exam chair completely numb waiting for my procedure. After the doctor returned he told me that I need to go elsewhere after today's treatment since "you can't get along". The manger is his wife and clearly is allowed to mistreat his patients and get away with it. Needless to say, I will never be returning.

I had a very positive and comfortable experience as a first time patient. The staff was patient, understanding, caring, thorough and professional. Dr. Meiser provided a requested second opinion. His evaluation was much different and significantly less costly than my previous one. He did the necessary procedure, during the appointment, and quickly for me. I made a follow up, routine appointment.
