Dr. Gilbert attends a vast number of continuing education seminars each year and is a member of the Indiana Dental Association, Indianapolis District Dental Society, American Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.
She also participates in numerous efforts promoting excellence in oral health through local agencies, schools, hospitals and annually in the Give Kids A Smile program, through the American Dental Association.
Dr. Gilbert's family enjoys an entensive love for dentistry. Dr. Gilbert's huband, Gary, is a retired Oral Surgeon. He taught at Indiana University School of Dentistry and practiced in Greenwood, IN for many years. Their legacy continues as their son, Grant, has aspirations to follow in his parent's footsteps pursuing a career as a dental specialist.

Melanie started out as a childhood patient of Dr. Lesley Gilbert. After graduating hygiene school, Melanie joined our practice in 2008 as a full-time hygienist before heading back to Indiana University School of Dentistry, where she became an Indiana licensed dentist.
It is wonderful to see her relationship come full circle, and it is our pleasure to welcome her as an Associate Dentist! Here she will help provide the same level of compassion, lightheartedness, and high-quality care our patient's have grown to expect.
Melanie attended Pendleton Heights High School and has extensive ties to the community in both Hancock and Madison Counties where she resides. While working as a dental hygienist, she developed a passion and skill for dentistry that led her to expand her education. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lesley Gilbert, Dr. Melanie Jones realized her professional dream of becoming a dentist. Although this took a great deal of dedication and perseverance, it still seemed easier than achieving her personal dream of becoming a Harlem Globetrotter.
Dr. Jones is enjoying getting to know the new patients in the office while simultaneously re-acquainting herself with the longstanding patients of our practice. She has truly committed herself to general family dentistry, and shes ready to take on cavities to cosmetic veneers for the young to young-at-heart. When Melanie isnt being a superhero dentist, she spends her time chasing her one-eyed cat and practicing her Snapchat so her teenage daughter thinks shes still cool.
While at our office, we make sure that you receive the highest level of service and ensure that our dental work is of the highest quality. To ensure that you maintain great oral health, this level of quality needs to extend into your personal oral hygiene routine. With the advances in modern technology, we are now able to pinpoint the start of a potential problem much earlier in its evolution. The ability to do so is extremely important in being able to treat any issues prior to them becoming a major irreversible problem.
Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the health of tissues and your overall health in the mouth. If you are a smoker or heavy drinker, make sure to get regular screenings when you visit the dentist.
Often there is plaque and tartar that accumulates below the gum line. In this scenario, we will clean and smooth this area with special instruments to ensure that the area is completely spotless. If this area is not kept clean the entire area can become irritated with the bacteria that resides in the tartar and plaque. It's very important to have your dentist check this area if you have bleeding during brushing.

For 30 years, Dr. Gilbert has been my dentist. From kindergarten to today, she has always used a gentle touch and gone out of her way to make excellent recommendations along the way to keep my smile beautiful. I couldn't be happier to have her as my dentist! That's why when I lived away at college that I made sure to plan my appointments to get in to see her while I was home. She is incredibly patient and thorough. She stops frequently during procedures (such as when she did my crown) to make sure I felt okay and didn't feel any pain. I've even received follow up to make sure everything was going well days afterward. Her team is exceptionally friendly as well! Everyone on staff always take time to get to know their patients and know many of them by name without checking the schedule to see who is walking in. Many have been with her for several years and that speaks for itself. I highly recommend her!!!

They gave me Arestin while I was breastfeeding (They were aware) without informing me it was a "cycline" drug which is contraindicated in infants/ children. I only found out AFTER it was already placed in my gum pocket and I looked up the drug info!! They tried to blow it off saying it was such a small dose and was localized, but it wasn't their children's teeth in jeopardy. THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME BEFORE AND LET ME MAKE THE DECISION TO TAKE THE RISK!! Needless to say my breast feeding days were over because I had to pump and dump for 30 days per pediatrician and then my supply tanked. I took my entire family next door to Dr. Knotek and have never looked back!!!

I've been going to Dr. Gilbert's Office for many years, and I love her and everyone that works there. They do a great job keeping my teeth and gums healthy. I also love how they take the time to connect with my littles. Last time we were there they even cleaned my son's toy dinosaur's teeth!
