Dr. Jeffery Kesecker received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from West Virginia University, where he received the Simon P. Hullihen award for exhibiting clinical excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Following dental school, Jeff completed a one year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery internship at the Oral Surgical Institute in Nashville, TN. He finished his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Denver Health Medical Center and the University of Colorado in Denver, CO.

Dr. Keseckers primary clinical interests include administration of general anesthesia, dental implant surgery including all on four cases, advanced bone grafting surgery, dentoalveolar surgery (removal of wisdom teeth), corrective jaw surgery, trauma surgery, and pathology. He maintains certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Dr. Kesecker appreciates that most of the patients who are undergoing oral surgery treatment are anxious and frightened. Jeff will make an extra effort to provide individualized and compassionate care to all. He looks forward to working with you and your dentist to provide the optimal level of care for you!

Expertise and Training: As a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Kesecker maintains certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and can administer all types of anesthesia.

We are uniquely trained and qualified to offer patients a variety of anesthesia options in all of our offices, including intravenous sedation (an excellent option for the anxious patient to go to sleep for the procedure) and oral sedation

A wisdom tooth, also known as a third molar, is the last tooth to erupt in your mouth. A wisdom tooth growing in its space generally occurs between the ages of 15 and 25. Most individuals are born with 4 wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth often become impacted due to limited space. An impacted wisdom tooth or impacted wisdom teeth occurs when there is a lack of space in your jaw and its growth and eruption are prevented by overlying gum, bone or another tooth. Wisdom teeth symptoms include pain, swelling, infection, and deep periodontal pockets. Wisdom teeth pain can be severe and may be an indication of a dental emergency requiring immediate removal of the teeth.

Theres a slight chance that wisdom teeth will grow into a proper position; however, over 85% of people will have impacted wisdom teeth, meaning there isnt enough room for the wisdom tooth or teeth to grow. Impacted wisdom teeth cause irritation or infection of the gums, or crowding and decay of other teeth, ultimately leading to wisdom teeth pain. Even if they erupt into the proper position, they are usually very difficult to clean. It can be recommended to have them removed in order to improve the overall health of the mouth and to prevent future issues.

Wisdom tooth removal is now more comfortable than ever. Using IV sedation and local anesthetics, Dr. Kesecker can make your dental extraction experience more pleasant than ever. After the gums are numbed, your surgeon meticulously opens the gums up so they can be gently pushed aside. The wisdom tooth is then exposed and extracted. Most often the tooth is dislodged in one whole piece. Occasionally the tooth is removed in two pieces to limit risk to the underlying nerve, or because smaller pieces are easier to remove, making for a smoother tooth removal.

The wisdom teeth surgery procedure itself is mostly painless. With IV sedation youll be relaxed, comfortable, and unaware of the passing time. In addition to sedation, local anesthetics numb the mouth to anything that could be painful. Most people experience some soreness during the healing period following surgery. At Legacy Surgery, Dr. Kesecker utilizes recent advances in medicine and state-of-the-art technology to allow patients to undergo their surgery in a manner that promotes rapid healing and minimal post-operative discomfort.

Soreness and swelling from wisdom teeth removal may last several days. Ice packs and prescription pain medication helps to limit pain during the healing period. The sockets normally will close and fully heal in three to four weeks. As with any teeth surgery, you are likely to experience pain, swelling, and some bleeding. The recovery period after oral surgery can take several days, and in some cases, there may still be swelling and discomfort for a week or more. Dr. Kesecker recommends using ice packs while enjoying soft foods, and keeping your mouth clean by rinsing with simple salt water. Non-woven sponges and moistened black tea bags can aid in the slowing of any bleeding. If you notice any unusual symptoms like discharge, severe pain or a fever, call us here at Legacy Surgeryright away. While complications post dental extraction, such as an infection, are rare, they are possible.

While your mouth recovers from a tooth extraction, it is imperative not to disrupt the blood clot or irritate your healing gums. The length of recovery depends a lot on how bad the wisdom teeth impaction was and how they were erupting. There are plenty of things you can do to make teeth removal recovery time easier.

You will want to eat a soft-food diet for the first day or more and then slowly move to semi-soft foods when you are ready. You should not consume alcohol, coffee, soda or hot beverages in the first few days following your teeth extraction. Do not use straws for the first five days.

Avoid brushing, spitting, flossing and rinsing for 24 hours. After that, you can gently brush your teeth. Rinse your mouth with salt water frequently to help keep it clean and prevent an infection. Do no spit for the first five days.

Smoking can cause a variety of different complications while your mouth recovers from a tooth extraction. Bothsmoking and tobacco use can disrupt the healing process. While never recommended, if you must smoke, dental professionals typically suggest you wait at least 72 hours, or three days. Smoking after getting your wisdom teeth out can dislodge the blood clots and lead to a condition called dry socket.

Plan on taking it easy for a few days; you can resume your normal activities after the first few days in most cases, but you do not want to do anything for about a week that could dislodge the blood clot from where the wisdom teeth extraction took place. Do not lift weights over 30 pounds for the first week.

For the pain, Dr. Kesecker can prescribe pain medicine and pain relievers. To help with the swelling, place an ice pack over the swollen area and sleep more upright, as swelling can be gravity dependent. The cold helps to reduce the inflammation and ease any dental removal pain. The teeth extraction recovery period can take several days and in some cases, there may still be swelling and discomfort for a week or more.

It's no secret that caring for your teeth and gums is essential to maintaining a beautiful, healthy smile for life. But did you know that practicing good oral hygiene and visiting the dentist twice a year can also protect your mouth against serious oral health conditions, including oral cancer? If you recognize a dental abnormality, such as a sore in your mouth that won't heal, it's important to seek professional dental treatment sooner than later.

Physicians have relied on computerized axial tomography scans (CAT) for years. Today, many oral surgeons rely on 3D imaging scans to provide them with a detailed view of the mouth and skull. 3D scans are quick and simple to perform. A Cone Beam Imaging System is at the heart of the 3D scanner. The cone beams are used to take literally hundreds of pictures of the face. These pictures are used to compile an exact 3D image of the inner mechanisms of the face and jaw. The oral surgeon is able to zoom in on specific areas and view them from alternate angles.

3D x-rays provide our team a more comprehensive view of your entire mouth which helps us locate issues that arent always identifiable in a 2D image. We in turn are able to coordinate treatment planning and dental services to our patients in more depth and can explain treatments with greater clarity and accuracy. Other benefits include:

Just want to thank this entire practice for getting my grandson, Brenden, in for an emergency wisdom tooth extraction. He is a freshman at JMU. Saw him within 24 hours. Again thank you for taking care of him and being so kind to my wife Ann.

I had an issue with a tooth that has given me on-going issues for years. This time was different. There was no saving it. Unfortunately, it was just a couple of days before Thanksgiving. Dr. Kesecker's staff was graciously able to work me into their schedule the next morning. I was very pleasantly surprised when I met him. He was everything that you would ever want in a practitioner: kind, empathetic, a great listener, knowledgeable and able to explain dental issues in such a way that the average person can understand. He is a busy man but he took a couple of extra minutes with me when I really needed them. My only complaint is that there is only one of him. Seriously, Dr. Kesecker is the best oral care practitioner whom I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I recommend him to anyone and everyone without reservation.

I'm terrified of the dentist to begin with. And this procedure was way more work then I expected to get done today. But Dr Kesecker and his nurse both did a really nice job keeping me calm and kept my pain to a minimum. So for that I am very grateful. I would definitely come back and I would refer my family and friends. Thank you.

You should be very careful with the fees, I went to get only an estimated for an implante and I was very clear at the front desk that I just need their price for the implante and they told me that the doctor will tell me. They did an scan without disclosing the price and then sent me to the doctor. Wich told me that the ladies at the front desk will tell me the price for the implante. When they gave me the price they charged me for the consultation 477.00 usd and I told them how could be when I told them front the beginning that I just need a cuote and they told me do not worry the insurance will pay for a portion of that. I was very disappointed with that mal practice. They are steeling from the insurance and the customers. Nobody never told me about any fees neither by phone or in person before doing anything.

I got my wisdom teeth here a couple of years ago and it was a great experience. Then today, I had a procedure done and it was a great experience. The nurse was so helpful and nice which made me less anxious and scared. I'm not a big fan of needles or going to sleep before a surgery but she calmed me down which I appreciated a lot. Everyone is super nice and it's always a great experience when I go.

Upon arriving, on time which is unusual for me, I was welcomed kindly by the front desk staff. I've learned No office can run smoothly without their front desk staff. I was given paperwork to complete and then escorted back to a room where one of the staff reviewed with me what was to be done that day, if I had questions and parts of my oral, medical and med history that were pertinent. She was very helpful, knowledgeable and kind, all things important to me when I need to see anyone regarding my health. Then she escorted me to the room where Dr. Kesecker, assisted by a dental assistant, removed 2 roots and a full tooth with minimal difficulty. Hey, I have crooked roots and don't wish them on Anyone. This is what amazed me the most...I had NO PAIN when Dr. Kesecker did the initial preprocedure numbing or when he needed to numb me a little more. I was waiting for that jerk when the needed is first put in that I had experienced for at least 63 of my 69 years. THERE WAS NONE, NO PAIN THEN OR THROUGHOUT! Thank you Again Dr. Kesecker and All staff for making this the BEST Dental and Surgical visit I've Ever had! Barbara Logue

Went there because wisdom tooth needs to come out and got charged $77 just for them to say yes it needs to come out and want to charge outrageous price to get the tooth pulled and not even offer a payment plan for people like me who can't get credit and don't have money upfront. When I had to cancel my appointment I told the lady I couldn't get the money so I needed to cancel and she just laughed at me. This place is a joke and don't care about their patients.
