I was blessed to grow up in a great home in Lubbock, TX. I had a strong foundation of Faith, family, and friends growing up, with a consistent emphasis on hard work. I knew from the 8th grade that I loved the way dentistry combined artistry and science. Even as a child, this concept fascinated me. I made model airplanes and cars as a kid, and I loved building things with my hands.
I graduated from Texas A&M with honors with a bachelor of science in Biomedical Sciences. During my senior year in Aggieland, I met my future bride, Megan. We were both in the process of applying to Baylor College of Dentistry, she for her dental hygiene degree and I for my dental degree, or DDS. Thrilled that we were both accepted by the school, we were married Christmas break my first year.
During dental school, I was active in Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA), helping lead mission trips down to Matamoros, Mexico, and providing life changing dental care to those in need. Megan and I welcomed the first addition to our family, our daughter Landry, during this time as well.
After completing dental school, I was accepted into a general practice residency program through the VA in Seattle, WA. I gained specialized experience in a range of dental surgical techniques, including implant restorations, porcelain esthetics and treatment of those with compromised health using various sedation techniques. The program proved to be one of the best experiences of my life, giving me a more well-rounded comprehensive dentistry approach to each patient.
Upon completing my residency, my wife and I returned to Dallas to start my general dentistry practice. We welcomed our son, Jude, shortly after our arrival. Weve since become very involved in the community. We love it here! My family enjoys biking White Rock, camping, spending time with friends, grilling out, and staying active through our local church.
We've since welcomed Ty, our second son, to the mix along with Marlo, a rescue, we adopted back in 2018. Our love for the neighborhood continues to grow as our kids attend local schools and play every sport imaginable. We can be found most weekends on the soccer and football fields coaching and socializing with our crew.
Dr. Hornberger, a Dallas native, is a graduate of Texas A&M and dental degree recipient from Texas A&M College of Dentistry. The son of a lawyer and grandson of an orthodontist practicing in Dallas for over half a century, he was raised with a strong emphasis on servant leadership and the joy that comes with helping others.
Since I was a child, my two heroes have been my father, a lawyer, and my grandfather, a dentist. It was evident to me, even from an early age, that both were committed to their work and to using that work to better the lives of the people around them. They have been invaluable examples of professionalism leaving legacies that I would be proud to carry on.
My grandad, Dr. C. Moody Alexander, was an orthodontist who practiced here in Dallas for 55 years. Growing up, I was able to watch the way he cared for his patients and his community. He was passionate about dentistry as an occupation, but also as an opportunity to serve. The more I watched, the more I wanted to follow in his footsteps. While I cant say it was the quality of his work that initially drew me into dentistry (4 th graders rarely are adequate judges of dental work), the quality of his character and the way he applied that to his work convinced me to pursue dentistry as a career, even at such an early age.
I was born and raised in Dallas, and after graduating from The Covenant School, I went on to receive a bachelors degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University. My time in Aggieland was an experience for which I will always be grateful. Beyond the education I received, the friends I made and the organizations I was a part of taught me lessons in service, leadership, and faith that I will never forget. My time in College Station helped me better understand the man I want to be.
During college, I spent two summers on staff at Camp Barnabas, a Christian summer camp in Missouri for kids and adults with disabilities. This experience challenged me in ways I had never been challenged before, leading to exponential growth in selflessness, gratitude, and love. Speaking of love, its also where I met my wife, Whitney, a sweet southern belle from Nashville, Tennessee. Whitney and I got married the summer of 2017 after my first year of dental school and, through her nursing career, she selflessly supported us during my time in school.
Whitney and I are members of my childhood church, Watermark Community Church, where I serve in student ministries as a small group leader. In our free time, we love to be outside and are constantly looking for anything, from backyard fires to backcountry mountain streams, to share with friends and family. I have always had a passion for the outdoors and have been told I may have an unhealthy relationship with fly fishing. I will rarely turn down a hunting or fishing trip.
Having finished dental school in May of 2020, I could not be more excited to join a team like Leftwich Dentistry. Dr. Leftwichs practice has established a reputation of excellent care along with quality work. Whitney and I are grateful to be a part of such a patient-focused practice, and we are thrilled to become a part of this community of professionals and patients.
