Welcome to my practice. I am native Albanian, born and educated in Albany. I graduated from Albany High School, attended the Albany College of Pharmacy, and received an early admission to the SUNY Buffalo School of Dentistry. I completed a two-year residency in the specialty of pediatric dentistry at the Childrens Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. I returned to Albany after my training and have been treating children in the Capital District since 1974.

I completed board certification in the specialty of pediatric dentistry from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in 1980. I am one of only 18 dentists recognized by the Academy of Laser Dentistry to certify other dentists in standard proficiency to use lasers and have achieved the position of Mastership status from the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

My philosophy is to provide my patients with the most up-to-date oral care using the latest and best materials and technology available in as pleasant and caring environment as possible. My dedicated staff has assisted me in meeting my goals. Many of my staff members have been with my practice for more than 30 years. They are a knowledgeable, well trained, and professional group of dedicated healthcare providers.

We recognize that all of our young patients are unique and deserve to receive dental care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented dental team is committed to working with you and your child to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding dental experience every time you visit our practice.

Since 1974, Dr. Kotlow has been in private practice, serving the specialized needs of children in Albany, NY. Dr. Kotlow is known throughout the country for his innovative techniques and caring manner, and has lectured for some of the top dental societies and dental companies. Dr. Kotlow has lectured in Australia, Taiwan, Canada, England, France, and throughout the United States concerning pediatric dentistry and lasers. He has written more than 35 articles and authored chapters on pediatric dentistry and lasers for three laser textbooks.

  • In order to provide your children with the safest care, we have invested in adding computerized digital X-rays the 1990s, when it first became available as a means of reducing radiation exposure to children. This reduced the amount of radiation children receive for dental X-rays as much as 90%.
  • We also reduced the frequency of taking X-rays when appropriate, from twice a year to once a year and only when needed to complete a comprehensive complete examination on children. This also reduces contamination of the environment, since we no longer need chemicals and lead foil to take and to view the old fashion methods of X-ray development.

Dr.Kotlow is well known for his concern and understanding of mother's who wish to nurse. He is an internationally known expert on the diagnosis and treatment of ankyloglossia also known as tongue-tied. Dr.Kotlow sees infants as early as a day after birth for the revision of abnormally attached lingual frenums. His techniques using laser surgery eliminate the need to place infants in the operating room or the need for drugs for treatment.

As a parent. you have great expectations for motherhood. Unfortunately for many mothers. breastfeeding becomes a toe-curling. Painful experience because of poor or missed diagnoses of tethered oral tissues such as tongue-ties and lip-ties. Dr. Kotlow 's new book, SOS 4 TOTS demystifies why. Dr. Kotlow has been treating infants for breastfeeding difficulties due to tongue and upper lip-ties since 1974. In recent years with the increased number of mothers desiring to breastfeed their infants, he has revised over ten thousand abnormal frenum attachments of what are now referred to as 'tethered oral tissues' (TOTs).

If you are a mother who has been suffering needlessly; there may be times when you will cry as you read this book because you will realize the problems are not your fault; the professionals on whom you were depending for help had a basic lack of understanding. SOS 4 TOTS seeks to expose the myths about breastfeeding and heal the heartbreak to make breastfeeding a joy.

Very clean facility. The office staff and assistance are very kind and friendly. Dr. Kotlow is all business and he knows what he is doing! Our 9 week old visited the office for tongue and lip ties, we found out during the exam she also had cheek ties. Dr. Kotlow took her for the procedure and she was back in 10 minutes. He makes sure you are well informed about the procedure and the aftercare!

Dr. Kotlow changed our son's life and we will be forever grateful! Our son had severe lip, tongue and buccal ties and even though his tongue tie was addressed at one week old, it did not heal properly. He is now 17 months old and has oral aversion, he was on an NG tube for over a year and recently had g-tube surgery. Dr. Kotlow knew within minutes that our son's airway was partially blocked and that oral surgery would fix multiple issues we were facing on a daily basis. He was RIGHT! Our son can open his mouth wider, his tongue is moving freely, he is more interested in food, he no longer throws up daily from what we thought was severe reflux, and he breathes better. His quality of life has improved dramatically and it's been less than 3 weeks since his procedure. Our family highly recommends Dr. Kotlow and his practice. We hope other families find the relief our son did from moving forward with surgery.

Dr. Kotlow did all three of my newborn babies' tongue tie and upper lip tie releases, over the past 8 years. They all healed well with no complications. The instructional papers and videos that he gives parents are clear and straightforward, with simple exercises for a couple weeks, to prevent the ties from reattaching. The procedure is so quick (just a few minutes) and effective, and helped my babies achieve a much deeper and more comfortable and effective latch immediately. The bleeding after the laser procedure was minimal, even zero with my last, and he wasn't even crying when he came back to us. I went on to nurse my first two for two years and plan to do the same with my last. I have no other experience with any other method of releasing ties for comparison, but would 100 percent do it the same over again, and 100 percent recommend Dr. Kotlow and his laser procedure to anyone whose baby needs revisions, or is even wondering, because it's difficult to assess the severity without having a lot of experience and revising earlier is better. Without Dr. Kotlow I'm not sure how our breastfeeding experience would have gone, if at all. His office is also very on time and organized.

My 2 month old had been having acid reflux issues (difficulty sleeping, spitting up a lot, grunting a ton, crying from discomfort, difficulty nursing, etc.) since about 3 or 4 weeks old. She was put on Nexium which helped some but I started to notice she was swallowing a ton of air due to latch issues that were becoming more apparent as the weeks went on. I mentioned the latching issues at her well visit and was referred to Dr. Kotlow for a tie assessment. I'm so happy that we were referred! Dr. Kotlow assessed and then fixed the tongue, lip, and cheek ties at that visit and nursing was immediately better. Latching is now a non issue and acid reflux is gone! She's totally fine now and no more Nexium! I would definitely recommend anyone take their baby to Dr. Kotlow if they have a baby that seems to have acid reflux issues.

Went to this dentist as an infant until being an early teen. Begged my mom to change dentists every time because I was so scared to go down stairs without her. Being 25 now, I am still scared to even get a cleaning done and have skipped out on getting cavities filled. Had a procedure done for a tongue tie when I was about 4 or 5 years old and remember watching my mom on a screen in his room while she was sitting in the waiting area. When I started to cry he told me "oh stop I just did this procedure on a two year old yesterday and they didn't make a noise" "if you want to see your mom stop crying so I can hurry up" it was awful. Has traumatized me. Even when I would get a cleaning done, I remember pushing myself so far back into the seat wishing I could go right through it when he would come and poke around at my teeth with his tool that looks like a hook, don't know the proper name for it. I can say the woman who cleaned my teeth at almost every appointment I had, who sat closest to the arcade games that were downstairs, was very nice, never hurt my mouth or teeth and was patient and kind, the woman who was stationed closest to the stairs, cleaned my sisters teeth majority of the time and my teeth one time. She was rough and not very nice. Overall, I would never recommend this dentist to anyone at all. Don't bring your children here unless you want them to grow up with fear of going to the dentist, even as an adult.

I want to him with my 5 old months baby for a lip tie and with a tongue tie. We get there and he showed us everything and ask if we have some questions. After he took our baby and before I could even think he was back with my baby. My baby cried a little and after eating he was fine. By baby is a new baby now. Thank you! I will definitely recommend to others

The level of discrimination through so called "policy" is absolutely appalling. The snitty women that work in that office and discussions of people private medical matters and or information amongst those whom are not MD's is enough to land this practice a lawsuit. Although Kotlow is qualified in his specialty that is all he should be doing, education and revisions... not running a dental office for overall dental well being if all are not welcome. He prides himself on all he does with little regard to law or common good practice of ethics, a person's rights are never cancelled whether for medical or religious reasons this is why Dr's take oaths this is why they hold a license. Edited to add: Nobody here is talking about refusing vaccination, the issue is choice to disclose personal/private information and being denied care, including invasive measures your implementing. Your choice to segregate anyone when you dont even actually know if someone may be exempt from a medical procedure for medical reasons or religious and assuming they are "unsafe", are you even aware of Americans with Disabilities Act?. Your response sir, clearly exposes that fact. You shouldn't be responding to this review directly insinuating this is a vaccine issue as much as its a legal one. YOU ARE SPREADING PROPOGANDA.

I don't even go here, I just know someone traumatized by their experience here when they were a child. And for the owner..you've got nerve to be responding to people's opinions on your practice without even constructing a sentence a two year old could string together. You're rude, you're feisty, you have no bedside manner. You have the gall to tell someone their child may be autistic when they are 2 years old and throwing a tantrum. Good luck. I'm spreading the word to as many people as I can. You're too old, let go and retire. And for anyone else, most of these "fantastic reviews" were bought and paid for.

I remember as a kid I saw kotlow, he was performing a surgery on the gap in the middle of my teeth when I was young, I was crying and he told me shut up before he gives me a reason to cry. My brother and cousins also all had them and he was mean to us all. Terrible child dentist. Don't send them here if you want them to feel comfortable and have friendliness provided to them.

Brought my two year old son to his appointment for a cleaning. He was checking my sons mouth and my son was crying and trying to get his hands out of his mouth. We obviously took his hands away so th4 doctor could finish checking his mouth. After the doctor checks my sons teeth he asked if my son throws tantrums a lot. We said sometimes he is two years old. He then proceeded to tell my boyfriend and I that something is wrong with our child that he has autism and isn't a normal child. Then proceeded to give us a card to get him evaluated. Very unprofessional won't be back!

For the first 7 months of my daughter's life she struggled with slow weight gain, inability to take a bottle, gagging constantly. I struggled with severe nipple pain, engorged breasts, and constant frustration with breastfeeding. This was especially hard after having such an easy time breastfeeding my first daughter. I knew it shouldn't hurt and something was not right. We were misdiagnosed with thrush and both took multiple medications for MONTHS with no relief. By 6 months, my daughter dropped from the 50th percentile at birth to the 3rd percentile and then failed to gain weight for several weeks, falling off the chart. Attempting to introduce solids just exasperated the problems. Every food caused gagging and vomiting. My pediatrician was stumped and could only point to a GI issue. Thankfully an IBCLC recommended checking my daughter for tethered oral tissuss. She referred us to Dr. Kotlow and we made an appointment right away. My daughter was diagnosed with a tongue and lip tie and it was corrected within minutes in his office. Immediately after the procedure my daughter latched and it was pain free for the first time. That night she began nursing like a newborn again! Only now she was emptying my breasts, feedings were lasting 20 minutes, and her little belly was full and soft and she was content. Within days she gained 3 ounces! She is now taking solids without gagging and will take a bottle for the first time ever. A month after the procedure, she continues to gain weight steadily - she is happy and healthy. I am so incredibly relieved and only wish we had checked for ties earlier. Thank you Dr. Kotlow for the work you do and for continuing to try to educate our pediatricians and professionals. I am so grateful to have found you!

We brought our daughter to Dr.Kotlow this past month. She had just turned 9 months old. Our pediatrician told us she didn't show any signs of being tongue tied. Recently someone pointed out that our daughter was a bit tied. Dr. Kotlow was highly recommended to us by several people. Everyone we talked to on the phone we're wonderful and so accommodating. We made an appointment and went in. We found out that our daughter was indeed tongue tied. (Upper lip as well). Kotlow is so informative and really is passionate about helping parents with all their tongue tied needs. We found out that she was level 4. The procedure itself didn't take more than 5 minutes. As soon as we got home we noticed an improvement. Kotlow is very Thorough, showed us how to do all the Exercises. He answered any questions we had and really cares about your child's well being. We are just so happy. It's has been two weeks and she has healed beautifully. Over all her whole well being is better from eating, smiling and even sleeping!!! We are so beyond pleased! And a special thank you to the ladies in the office! My printer ran out of ink that morning we lived about an hour away and I explained to her the issue. She was so kind to meet us at the door and let us fill out the paper work there!

Words can't explain what kind of impact Dr. Kotlow has had on our family's life. We were told our son's tongue tie didn't really "need" to be revised - for his entire first year of life. It wasn't until my 'mama intuition' kicked in regarding the concern that we took him to get another opinion. We ended up at Dr. Kotlow's office and are so glad to have been lucky enough to have him work on our son. Our son's tongue and lip ties were Class IV - the tightest level possible. We had no idea the impact these ties were having on our son's life. Since the procedure has occurred, he is making so many new sounds, communicating more, and sleeping through the night! We owe all of this to Dr. Kotlow and his crew! Thank you from the bottom's of our hearts!

Dr Kotlow and staff are nothing less then amazing! All three of my kids have gone to him from birth. He has done all three kids lip and tongue revisions. We continue to go to him now for dental work and drive over an hour because he is simply the best. Yesterday we had their cleanings. I was not able to have anyone come with me to help with my 1 year old,2 year old and 5 year old. The staff was so friendly and helpful even went as far as helping me to the car to make sure everyone got in the car safe after the appointment. Thank you again Dr Kotlow and Staff

Super frustrated with this practice. Kotlow stopped taking our insurance and seemed to get frustrated that we decided to move to a different practice. We requested his office send our records 4 times to a new practice. We NEVER heard back from them. When we got someone on the phone they assured us they would take care of it and never did. Our new practice had to re do services due to lack of records which has now cost of $350 due to insurance frequently denials. I guess once you are making money you don't need to worry about how your consequences effect others. Decent dentist. Terrible chairside manor as well as terrible customer service from staff.

I got actual trauma from this place. It's disgusting and horrible I remember him THREATENING ME because he was being harsh. From a young age I have suffered with anxiety and this guy made it worse I have a fear of dentists now. I'm glad I went to another one and also this guy will try to touch you if you move a little bit when they were inflicting pain on me. Please never send you kids here
