Doctor Lauren Yasuda Rainey received her bachelors degree from Wellesley College and then pursued her dental degree and graduated with high honors from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. During dental school, she served on the school Ethics Committee and was recognized by the San Francisco Dental Society for Excellence in Ethical Conduct. Dr. Rainey then completed a general practice residency with a focus on hospital-based dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine / Tufts Medical Center in Boston. At Tufts, she became skilled in managing dental emergencies, treating medically compromised patients and persons with special needs.
Upon moving back to the Bay Area, Dr. Rainey began teaching at her alma mater the Dugoni School of Dentistry. She loves the collaborative approach of education that the university embraces and finds joy in watching dental students find their passions within dentistry. Teaching strengthens her ability to communicate with patients and keeps her up-to-date on the ever-evolving field of dentistry. Her practice philosophy highlights oral health as an integral part of overall health.
She is thrilled to work in Berkeley and is excited to provide comprehensive care to such a motivated and engaged patient community. In her free time, she likes to bake, play Japanese percussion (taiko) and explore new places, especially outdoors, with her family.
Kristine is a Registered Dental Hygienist. She spent her early career in Human Resources and the telecommunications industry before pursuing her true passion of the health and nutrition field. She loves her career as a dental hygienist. In particular, Kristine finds delivering oral health education as a means of disease prevention and improved overall health both worthwhile and fulfilling.
A SF Bay Area native and Cal grad (Go Bears!), Kristine currently resides in the Tri-Valley area with her husband, teen son, preteen daughter, and two cats. In her spare time, she enjoys watching her kids unearth their creativity when not on their electronic devices, volunteering at the Berkeley Free Clinic and at her kids schools, hiking with friends, and gathering with extended family (including her 105-year-old grandma) almost every Saturday night.
Claire is a Registered Dental Hygienist and a Bay Area native. As a child, she always looked forward to going to the dentist, and started seriously considering dental hygiene as a career her sophomore year of high school. She knew she wanted to have a career helping others and feels fortunate to have found that in dental hygiene. Claire enjoys volunteering locally and plans to volunteer abroad. Claire has many loves in life, including travel, being in nature, reading, walking her dog Tucker, cuddling with her kitty Birdie, acapella music, and watercolor painting. Claire also enjoys spending time with her family and friends (socially distanced of course!).
Janna grew up in Florida and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. Before coming to our practice as a dental assistant, Janna worked as a dental insurance coordinator in Denver, Colorado. She is grateful to be able to learn firsthand from Dr. Rainey and is thrilled to work alongside such an amazing team. Outside of work, Janna enjoys doing arts and crafts, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her two rescue cats.
2519 Ashby Ave in Berkeley, California has been the site of a dental practice for over 50 years. It is conveniently located in the Elmwood neighborhood near the Alta Bates Medical Center. We always do our best to make you feel welcome at our friendly office.

Dr Rainey and her crew run a fantastic practice. They are incredibly patient, explain every detail (if you want them), and the results are fantastic. I would be lying if I said I looked forward to my dentists visits, but I no longer live in fear! I would not hesitate to recommend the best dentist in the East Bay to everyone!

I switched to Dr. Rainey last year and am so happy with my decision. I had to get a crown replaced (last one was a shoddy job), and was really nervous. Dr. Rainey explained everything very clearly, was happy to answer all my questions, and is overall extremely knowledgeable. My other experiences at her practice -- cleanings, etc. -- have also been super positive. I HIGHLY recommend her!

Dr. Rainey and her entire team consistently make visiting the dentist a pleasant, easy and efficient experience. I started as a patient at the end of 2020, feeling nervous in the shadow of COVID-19 on top of my general discomfort with getting my teeth examined, but my worries quickly dissipated once I walked into the cozy office. The utmost care is taken to ensure safety for everyone, including the careful check in process and the impressive "space suits" the dental staff wear. They aren't messing around here. Even through the masks, shields and safety head gear, Dr. Rainey's warm, quick-witted personality shines through. She makes a point to thoroughly narrate everything she's doing, checks in frequently to monitor a patient's comfort, and is very up to date in technique as well as technology. Parking out front is free and plentiful, the office staff is responsive and friendly, and if you're in the market for *very* nice toothbrushes or quality floss, they've got you covered.

I recently had my annual check up and teeth cleaning. I felt so safe with all the COVID-19 protocols in place, and so well taken care of. Dr Rainey and her staff are the best. I highly recommend them. My teeth also thank you.

Dr. Rainey is patient, kind, and hilarious. She takes the time to explain each step and has a great sense of humor about uncomfortable dental procedures. I trust her with all procedures she does herself and all referrals when something is out of her wheelhouse. She's even great with my 3 year old! The whole team is great, and I appreciate the thorough followup and tech friendly systems. Ashley at the front desk is super great, attentive, helpful, and thorough. I love this place! :)

Dr. Rainey is a great dentist with a wonderful team! I've been going there for more than 3 years now. I've always needed a lot of work on my teeth and had a hard time finding a dentist I was comfortable with. She was patient, helped me prioritize what was needed, and did some really nice restorative work. Her hygienist, Kristine, has been amazing at helping me prevent problems - I think it's been almost 2 years since I've had anything more than regular cleanings or checkups, and I'm able to take care of my teeth so much better!

This is a wonderful practice. Lauren is smart, incredibly competent, and committed to remaining on the leading edge of current technology and techniques. Her team is lovely and very customer-focused. The place has a family vibe and is warm and welcoming. Going to the dentist is never fun, but Lauren and her team get pretty close. Except for the novocaine, of course. Nothing can be done about that. ;)

I wish Dr Rainey were able to do all of my medical and dental care. I've been impressed with Dr Rainey's thoroughness and skill In the procedures I've had. She also gives excellent general care. I leave with a sense that not only is my main problem attended to, but that I have the time and attention to ask questions or discuss other concerns. When I do, I always get satisfying, complete responses. i always leave feeling comfortable that I have had the best possible care.
